  • I have an LG dishwasher LDS4821ST that had a door that would drop freely. I thought it might be a broken spring issue, but there was still a bit of resistance when the door opened.
    After a little research, I found that sometimes these 4933DD3001B Hinge Cable Tension Cord parts would sometimes break. In this case the cords had frayed and one of them had stretched significantly which means the spring didn't have to do the work it normally would do.
    The tension cord I picked up off of Amazon. 10.99 CAD for a pair of them. Highly recommended to get a set of two and replace them both at the same time. It only takes a few minutes to swap them both out and this 6 minute video is an unrehearsed example of how easy it is.
    If your dishwasher door falls freely without resistance, the issue is likely the tension cord. Fix it yourself for cheap!

      I kind of wish more things would break around here to make additional videos... but still glad most things keep functioning well. I had an ice machine fail on me at work and put that back together, but too few people are interested in a video for that. Thanks for watching.

      Yep. quick and easy to implement. It's quite satisfying that a 5 minute fix extends the life of this dishwasher. Keep on fixing things.

    Thank you, just had this happen today. I was noticing that the door was getting looser just didn't think that a nylon rope/string is being used. I also noticed the broken white rope on the side so ordered one. But watching your video tells me I don't need to worry about disconnecting all the connections, I have enough slack for all connections.

    • @rockingcheers
      @rockingcheers  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, as long as you have a bit of slack in your water, drain and power lines... you should be fine. There is usually a bit of slack anyways during install. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks so much for your video ! I heard a noise - and then my door dropped to the floor. I assumed it was related to a broken spring - but your video showed me the part I actually needed. I just received my OEM replacement parts today, and decided to fix it immediately. My LG dishwasher was made in 2007 (I think it was the first SS one to have hidden controls along the top) - and when I started to pull it part way out, I discovered that my model has metal panels covering the sides = I had to pull my dishwasher all the way out from under the cabinet in order to remove all of the screws (two on front and four down the back). Luckily, my water and drain hoses were still long enough - no removal needed (I did have to disconnect the three wire connections to the power cord).
    My very first diy appliance repair! The cord on the left side barely looked used - the right one was split into two pieces! I went ahead and replaced the left one anyway - I’ll keep the original one for a quick fix if it happens again sometime.
    While researching this issue, I discovered how much “hate” there appears to be out there for LG dishwashers. This was my fist issue with my LG dishwasher in almost 16 years (except for one small piece of plastic that broke in the bottom of the utensil basket - I just did a little wire fix for that). I’m about to renovate my kitchen - and am planning on keeping my LG dishwasher since it works well and has the hidden controls.
    Thanks again - you saved me some $$$!

    Thanks! I just replaced a pump (model is only 7 years old and since we have two dishwashers in out kitchen, it surprised me that problems started happening so soon) but during the test run after pump replacement, I discovered some leaks. After checking the gasket along the bottom of the door, I found it to be pushed up about 2/3 on one side. Now I feel confident to unhook the tension rope on each side of the door and check out the gasket. I appreciate your video and hope that I can fix the gasket issue. My advice to NOT to buy LG products, because I also have issues with the double wall oven LG units after only 6 years.

      The quality of many of these machines seems to have dropped over the years. We've had these appliances now for over 13 years and the tension cable is the only thing we've had to replace. Maybe it's luck of the draw.

    This is a very common problem with LG dishwashers, and it occurs even with relatively new machines. The springs are poorly made and break at the end hooks (poorly formed). Another low quality issue is their vinyl coated racks. They rust at various points where the pieces are welded together, indicating the welded steel parts were not properly prepped before the vinyl coating was applied. All three of mine have significant rust in only four years. They won't pay to replace them, and they want well over $200 per rack if you want to buy them. I'm choosing the better option, throw the LG in the trash and buy a Bosch.

      Our LG has held up well. It's definitely not the best dishwasher out there, but fit our budget at the time. This easy fix was a way of squeezing a few more years out of it. Thanks for watching.

    • @rockingcheers
      @rockingcheers  3 роки тому +1

      Nylon is a very tough material. I wouldn't mess with it as any lubricant or glue might break down the material quicker.

    Were the parts for this specific to your LG model, or are they interchangeable for LG dishwashers?

    • @rockingcheers
      @rockingcheers  2 роки тому

      Not sure if these are interchangeable. For the cost, you could always order them and try out the new ones... as long as they have the same connectors on the ends. Your owners manual should have the exact part number for replacement

    • @rockingcheers

      Something like a 'hinge cable tension cord' which is a really long and convoluted way of describing it. Check your owners manual for the exact terminology

  • @paullywalnutz
    @paullywalnutz 3 роки тому

    Seems like this is a persistent issue. I’ve read about this happening quite a bit. Would it be possible to replace that rope with some sort of a metal leader like he would use in fishing? Seems like it would be much more durable than a nylon string.

    • @rockingcheers
      @rockingcheers  3 роки тому

      Even a steel braided cable would eventually break. Nylon is both flexible and tough and can handle the regular bending. Considering we've had the dishwasher for 10 years... this is a the only maintenance we've had to do... and it's easy to complete.
