It was such a wonderful time competing at Combo Breaker. I honestly didn't think I would get to grand finals since I was super nervous and shaky through out my pools. My momentum did change and my confidence did rose up when I kept winning. but Klimax took it, and hey Im happy how the night turned out. Good games to everyone. Happy to encourage anyone to play Blanka, even if he's a more challenging character. I play Blanka because I like Blanka.
Your Blanka play was outstanding man, keep up the great work and keep pushing on. Hopefully you can attend more tournaments, I look forward to you watching you play more.
Seeing how far you made it really reminded me that there’s really no excuses. Playing Blanka is incredibly frustrating, but anything is possible when you know that matchup, hahaha.
I've been a hard-core sf and Tekken player since their origins. After a very tough last 6 years of being homeless, grinding, making sacrifice, building foundations in multiple areas etc I just moved into my new apartment just about a week ago. This was the first tournament I sat down to watch comfortably with a roof over my head in the last 6 years and damn it was more amazing than I can put into words. I appreciate the classics being on center stage and I look forward to getting back into the scene myself soon. Keep up the great work and big props and congrats to all the competitors 🔥💯
ggs! it was nice meeting everyone! James chen is one of the few commentators that don't call my reactions "reads" or "guesses" that's always annoying. I work on my reactions, I want credit for it! lool.
Really great games. We saw a Blanka mirror, pocket O Fei Long and Cammy picks, and a Blanka in the finals. Man this game is still hype AF to watch to this day, and the community continues to surprise me.
This is so great, seeing so many young people interested in playing ST.... I honestly thought this would never be something I would witness, that it would just be an occasional old man exhibition of Vega vs old Sagat. This is so cool to see.
hell yeah. old school SF + James Chen = pure joy turns a lonely night into a party for me 🤓 ... and, just a quick btw, does anyone else notice that friendly-ass James is always giving out support-laughs to cover his partners but they never seem to get him back...? i might be being too nitpicky or something. (eg, 54:10) i just like James. he says interesting stuff and is kind.
That same feeling when Mao won that tournament, where Kusumondo was actually the name of the tournament beating AfroLegends. Is the same now, where Klimax win (And congrats for this ;D) but the name of tournament is Mr. "Blonki". Amazing play Bonki, congrats from Brazil o/

Can someone explain what is happening at 2:05:55? How did Chun do the neckbreaker backwards. I thought that could only be done close and it crossed up.
Rog has a move called turn around punch, or TAP for short, that is done by holding down either 3 kicks or 3 punches. The longer you hold TAP, the more damage it does on release. There’s 8 levels of TAP (with level 8 being known as Final TAP) which is what the number being called out means.
This was played on cps2 with a HAS (home arcade system) supergun. The adapters are DB15 to USB decoders, which allow you to connect just about any controller to it. paradisearcadeshop.com/products/undamned-db15-usb-decoder
HD is fun, but along with the slight lag, there were a bunch of changes ST crowd didn't agree with, such as fake fireball inputs and going far enough to change how certain characters were played. Sirlin went to bat for the community though, and he gets hate he doesn't deserve and I can't fault him for the massive balls he had to go for it even with all the insane limitations placed on him behind the scenes. I will say that without the feedback from HD Remix, we wouldn't see a project like New Legacy. If you haven't checked that out, it has a ton of subtle balance changes to help with matchups, new colors for each fighter, and an ACTUAL balanced version of ST Akuma that can be selected without a code... no one has been able to do that last one before. I have high hopes that eventually something like this could be adopted by the community; sounds unlikely but wait until you see it for yourself. Oddly enough, ST is in a really great place now with new blood making names for themselves and a project like this in the works. Shit is still as hype as it ever was, and to date nothing else comes close.
The “shoto days” shirt had my interest until I noticed Kazuya on it and realized it was probably made by a smash player that doesn’t know what a shoto it. Mario is closer to a shoto than kazuya.
It's the one that's been accepted as the tournament standard. I thought it was worth noting that the EU and NA versions of the cabinet that launched at the same time as all the others did were "beta versions", and they were revised. Idk if it was because Capcom wanted to launch worldwide on the same date that they just didn't have enough time to QA those 2 versions as much as they'd have liked.. or if there were actual bugs and issues that got fixed, tbh. Back then people traveled to jp if they wanted to compete with the best in st too.. and that was the version you had to play there. So, some of the reasoning probably comes from the community just being older in general.
@@bmassey- now I understand why Sf2turbo arcade boards are expensive in Akihabara. I know 3 stores and they have the same reason, it's because foreigners sought them out.
@@retrodoodmanx7161 US boards are more expensive. Japanese isn't really tournament standard, US boards are used too. It's just that japanese boards are more common (more were produced) so they are cheaper... Even after we raided all the japanese boards, they are STILL cheaper than US boards.
Honestly, after watching these matches I can understand Daigos praise for this game. Footsies, MU knowledge, Character knowledge and face paced! Probably lacking character variety?
I think the characters are great, I really don’t like all the new sf characters and especially and the female ones and the over sized giant chars. I wish it stayed more to the original chars even in sfv
