I have 2 daughters. I believe Alanis is a true inspiration for women worldwide regarding expression. I've learn a lot from her as a male. She reminds me of females I grew up with and females in my family.

I did grow up hearing her songs, but I have never given so much of a shit about Alanis morissette. Because of her and this documentary, I now love my kids even more. And that's one way you just can't go wrong.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Biography
I'm only five minutes in, and this is breathtaking. Bravo. The film's use of previously unseen (by me) footage, and relatively obscure tracks is genius, and is bringing a tear to the eye of this die-hard Alanis fan.
The utmost intelligence of this woman is simply amazing, and as a musician myself I am deeply inspired by her creativity and angelic voice.. Thank You Alanis...... Much love and appreciation for your beautiful abilities you have shared with us 🎙🎼❤

One pf my friends gave me her CD when i was 12, jagged lil pill & ive been hooked ever since
I had a boyfriend at 17 and he randomly left it at mine when I dumped him despite us never listening to it, it probably fell out of those huge cd wallets you carry round. So I kept it and oh my god, what a 'gift'! The best thing he gave me.

I remember visiting New York once in 2009 and renting a bicycle and riding through Central Park while listening to Flavors of Entanglement on iPod mini while the gentle spring breeze brushed my face. It was a bizarrely transformative and healing experience. The ability of this mastermind musical savant of expression to reach through time and space to affect so many at such a deep level is truly remarkable.
Love ever since. Love even more after this doc. I ve named my daugther as Alana because she is a real idol for me. Hearing more about her Desires , dreams, fights makes me prouder, happier, we have lots in common . It explain also the time I used to listen to her albuns , felling a huge emotial connection knowing nothing of english .isn,t it funny?

I had brutal postpartum depression and 4 miscarriages and one still birth and almost committed suicide when my ex husband left me for a female employee of our family business after my sister died and I was still suffering terrible from postpartum depression. I think it is amazing that she handled that while being famous. I think fame is very difficult and can lead to depression too. I wrote a book called the goddess an expression of the divine feminine about woman’s issues - motherhood and woman’s sexuality and had to unpublished it from the hate - it was in -2012 and the world wasn’t having it. So much hate for taking and being a woman as a natural sexual person. I couldn’t handle the hate. I think she is amazing for her strength and sharing her womanhood, motherhood and artistic expression and experiences

Con su música ella me enseñó a validar cada una de mis emociones y me ayudó a entender que está bien ser sensible, que está bien tener miedos, que está bien sentirse abrumado, confundido, enojado, triste. Pero también me recordó lo importante que es ser agradecido, amar, cuidar, comprender, y ser honesto con uno mismo, y muchísimas cosas más. Voy a estar eternamente agradecido de haber escuchado Ironic cuando tenía 12 años, y de poder haber disfrutado de toda su discografía con los años.

One episode down. I like the Reflexive Documentary style. Cutting a linear narrative about Alanis's emergence set against a non linear analysis of all her lyrics... Genius.
That said, as a former film teacher, I think I'm right in saying that the purpose of this documentary style is to make the audience reflect and give the piece meaning rather than be guided by the usual Voice of God narrator. And...
Reflect, I have. I am one year older than Alanis. I'm a huge fan... I also recently got an autism diagnosis. Now, watching this, Alanis in her own words and actions is ticking every box for High Functioning ASD as they're now calling it. I wonder if she ever considered 🤔 this as an alternative reason for her isolation, her depressions, her feelings of difference, her not being understood by her parents, seen as more mature than the average kid, unable to relate or connect to other kids etc. Etc. Just a thought...

@@lilme7052 Not at all. For one thing, I think it's standard practice to cite sources. Secondly, I was working on a project about her early material, and thought some of it would fit really well. Maybe my use of "all" was a mistake, as I wouldn't plan on using every single bit, but a fair few pieces are worth using.

The fact that someone put this together is mind blowing! How did you manage to separate the vocals from the music!?
Idk the specific software/app used for this video production, but a simple app you can use to separate instrument/vocal tracks is named Moises. I was amazed the first few times I used it. You just get the song on your android device in whatever way works best for you, and with 2 or 3 taps, it extracts the music and vocals into separate files. It's pretty magical. It's pretty common that I love a song by someone, but their vocals ruin it for me, so I just extract the instrumentation and discard the rest.
