    Regarding zoom, I don't even use the zoom ring. I just grab the front and push forward to zoom in. I can zoom in and out very quickly without twisting the barrel or camera. I like the focus clutch as it's easier to lock and unlock than the lock switch. I've been using the 90mm macro a lot so I'm used to not pulling or pushing on a focus or zoomring, so I haven't had any accidental locks because I know to pull on the ring as soon as I grab the camera.
    On other telephoto lenses, finding the lock switch takes a lot longer. I felt like I've missed a lot of shots by fumbling with that switch, but I've never missed a shot due to accidental locking the zoom using the clutch. I'm sure it's just a matter of habits and muscle memory.

      @BenjaminSmail  10 місяців тому +1

      It's great to hear about your technique and how you've adapted to using the zoom ring. You've highlighted an interesting aspect of developing muscle memory with your equipment. Thanks for sharing your perspective on using the clutch for focus - it's undoubtedly a matter of personal preference and what works best for you. Everyone has their own unique style of shooting, and it's valuable to hear how different techniques can be effective for various photographers. Happy shooting! 😊📷

      @@BenjaminSmail I've been birding a lot with the lens by now and I now mostly just lock it at 500. There's a line on the sun hood that I use to aim the lens, looking over the EVF to aim. Ive been very happy with the Tamron.

    I shun all the telescopiing lenses...(tho I have owned several)...shock from falling...moisture and dust magnets...to name a few...other than that I like your video presentation....American retired in Bangkok. Cheers
    P.S. I have a set of extension tubes along with a FE 70-200/4.... short distance macro is not a problem....I generally run with a pair of original A7c bodies.

    Thx Ben, i am currently thinking about those 2 lens as i would like to try wildlife with my a7r3. I was leaning toward the sony but now i think tamron might be the right choice for me because of its portability. Great review based on real life experience ! You got a new subscriber.

    I am trying to decided between theses two for my A7 IV, leaning towards the Tamron. I already have their 20-40 and 35-150, and I think I can nicely fit all three in my bag. I fear if I got the Sony lens I would windup never taking it with me. Great review! I guess I can forgive the hat, this time.

    • @BenjaminSmail
      @BenjaminSmail  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for considering both options for your A7 IV. It sounds like the Tamron lens would complement your existing setup nicely, and having all three lenses in your bag sounds convenient. Plus, it's always a bonus when you can carry all your gear without feeling weighed down. And hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the review, hat and all! Let me know if you have any other questions as you make your decision.

    I liked your review but you missed the point with the manual focus ring : it is like that because you can touch it with the same hand you are pushing the shot . So try a little and you see it’s very handy. It is not at all a mistake it is a practical idea compared with Sony where you need to use also the other hand , which by the way you are using it to sustain the lens . All the best , message from a user of this lens !

    Aperture is actually the same or better on the tamron all the way until 500.

    • @BenjaminSmail
      @BenjaminSmail  2 роки тому +1

      It is but it changes to much throughout the zoom. Which I find worse for video work. Not a issue for photography as much, but for video having your aperture change is not ideal. I normally set it to its highest amount and work with that. ✌️

    Where I stay the Sigma 150-600 is cheaper than Tamron but some reviews say Sigma is bad with birds in flight. What do you recommend? Go for the reach or pick up Tamron and have the focusing ability

    • @BenjaminSmail
      @BenjaminSmail  2 роки тому +1

      It's a hard one as both good lens. But if I was buying one today with my own money I would go for the tamron. But if you need that extra 100mm then I still think sigma is a nice option. Thanks 🙏

    Great review.. I’m in between these two lenses. Used the Sony runs around 1500 as the tamron runs about 900. Thinking for travel the tamron would be a better fit? More compact, looking to get into birding with my Sony a7riii. I would have some crop capability and the price is almost 600 cheaper on the used market..

    • @BenjaminSmail
      @BenjaminSmail  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! I dont think you can go wrong with either of them. The Tamron is a solid choice, especially for travel. You have the crop factor of the Sony R series for the extra reach if you need it.

    If the price difference between two would be $200 , would you pick sony or cheaper tamron?

    • @BenjaminSmail
      @BenjaminSmail  2 роки тому +2

      I would pick the Sony just for the internal zoom and more range alone. Unless you need that smaller set up. Don't think there would be much difference with the auto focus between them. ✌️

    things are ugly at 600 mm due to atmosphere so that doesnt even matter

      Yes depends on the location and how close the subject is of course. You can get close up details at 600 but of course the subject will still need to be a good distance

    It’s funny to hear that the tamron was faster in focusing, the sony focuses faster, this is obvious, the tamron has poor stabilization and sharpness at 500 mm, and the bokeh is worse, since there are only 7 aperture blades, versus 11 for the sony

    What I dislike about tamron telephoto is the dust spots appearing, they're like a hoover, even in your demo, you can see the dust spot

    • @BenjaminSmail

      This is the only time I have used one. Would have to see on a long term use. I think the dust spots you see are on my Sony sensor, which really is dust hovers. ✌️

      @@BenjaminSmail see I've found the sonys to be quite frankly a pain in the butt for dust, but I do love them, what I try and do I stay away from movable zoom lenses and now I'm sticking with fixed zoom, such as the 200-600 and the 70-200 G and Gm lenses, just to try and limit the dust particles from entering the sensor
