I never got the chance to watch all of the Brittas series when it was first broadcast, because of the job I had the time. Now I am retired, I am catching up, and what a great time I am having! Thank you for this, it is great!
If you ever watch the series if you keep a close eye there are numerous moments when you can clearly see the actors laughing or desperately trying not too. There is a great moment, I think it's series 1 ep 6 when Colin sneezes into the coffee. Laura drinks from it and starts coughing it up and then Brittas is suppose to proclaim "It's not awfully good coffee is it? Mines got lumps floating around in it" not only is Chris Barrie smirking all the way through the line but Julia St John (Laura) is laughing into her tissue and trying to cover her face. It always looked incredibly fun to make this show.
@@jonnygti It is channel 20 but unfortunately they are no longer showing the Brittas Empire. Great shame because I loved seeing this years after previously having done so.
The deep voice also clashes with his appearance; at times, in this show (in my opinion at least) he looks like he could pass for a teenager, hell even 12 years old at some points (the voice helps too)...
Many apologies for this Ladies and Gentlemen, It will not happen again!! I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! I'm going to see Chris Barrie at a Red Dwarf convention at the UEA in Norwich. I can't wait, I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else noticed that when Chris Barrie stuffs up, he has a habit of either going into mock Russian (7:47)/Chinese, does his impersonations of other actors (Kenneth Williams @ 5:13 & Richard Wilson as Victor Meldrew @ 5:17) OR he looks down like a naughty little boy shying away? He does that in Red Dwarf as well.
Hi. There is a real reason for this. During his time on Red Dwarf, Chris and the rest of the cast learnt if they made a mistake, or they knew they were about to fluff they had to stop straight away in case they ruin a joke, crash over a punchline or reveal details to the studio audience which should not be revealed until after the line is said. Chris does his mock Russian/Chinese to stop himself running over the script, so when the second (or third, fourth etc) takes are done, the joke and material is not spoilt for the studio audience, who laughter is the back bone of any sitcom. This was revealed by Doug Naylor the co-creator and writer of Red Dwarf. Hope this helps?
The actor Timothy Spall who had a guest part in Red Dwarf Series 5 was a prime example of someone who did not learn Chris's technique. In the first attempt at his scene in "Back to Reality", Timothy stumbled over his lines, was very nervous, and revealed plot and jokes to the audience, then making mistakes, so when the next take came about, the audience reaction to the jokes and plot was just not the same. The production team decided to call a break, and when he relaxed, he got it right.
I didn't appreciate this show at the time. Quality, decent, wholesome TV programming was plentiful back then. Sadly, it's all dried up now, so I look back to the previous century for good entertainment. And wow, these people actually look British, fancy that!

They looked like a great team of work colleagues to have worked with. I can imagine they had some right laughs while making these all those years ago.

@@missrockafella9432 that is a shame yes, but there’s some full episodes here on UA-cam, not the same but better than nothing 😁
Love Chris doing Kenneth Williams never gets old
Love how they`re all very quick to automatically go to resetting themselves, like they`re well practised at it!
I just love this show... Barrie is so funny... :D

"Did someone just fart?"

Judy is my fave by a mile!
i still do
always thought linda was gorgeous
And Laura. And Chris ♥️
So strange hearing his voice go from Brittas (high, nasal) to Barrie (deep.)
He does a half version on Red Dwarf.
The deep voice also clashes with his appearance; at times, in this show (in my opinion at least) he looks like he could pass for a teenager, hell even 12 years old at some points (the voice helps too)...
Sheer genius - got more surrealist as it went on - the ending was fab
Many apologies for this Ladies and Gentlemen, It will not happen again!!
I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!
I'm going to see Chris Barrie at a Red Dwarf convention at the UEA in Norwich. I can't wait, I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!
dogsarefab n
Lucky thing!
Seriously who was the guy responsible for holding the boom mic up? The amount of times I remember seeing it in numerous episodes.
Chris Barrie - swoon! 🥰🤩😘
"I don't believe it!" Haha, I know that one! Richard Wilson! XDD
"Did someone fart? I'm sure I heard a *parp*" LMAO
1:38 May have been a fly.. But why bleep out the word FART!!!?

+C21L01 The show is irrelevant, it's just how Chris Barrie deals with personal screw ups.
Perhaps fallout for doing spitting image so long

This show had some great lovable characters. Awesome writing as well. Don't make them like they used to lol
Glad I'm not the only one :D

you can be in charge of my b*****ks certainly!!! I love Hattie Thorpe, She was in Absolutely Fabulous too!!
5:46 Chris got a line right!!!

gavin is my drama teacher :)
Tim Marriott? Wow! That's so cool!
@@aspiemakeupgurl4833 no way

It's so funny. It's only when he drops out of character that I hear Rimmer. The rest of the time, it's Gordon. I guess Arnold got his natural voice!
And it was all a dream.....
Tell Laura I ?
I think he was the one who farted.
LOL! A signed shit... I want one ;)
Why is it still charming when he asks 'did someone fart?' why is every godamn thing he says so bloody charming and cute?!
Just seen a mic at the top corner of the screen
Fells like it has become another cast member, it has appeared so many time! :)
Secret crush on Harriet Thorpe 😍 and great show
0:43. That wouldn't be the first time a boom appeared in shot in that show!

Spot the mike at 0:40!
