  • High density planting is all the rage right now with people trying to pack as many fruit trees as they can into their backyards. That's definitely my goal, along with keep some yard space free for the kids. Check out how close my trees are to each other. Let me know what you think!

Put some raised garden beds in between the trees. You have plenty of room

Or grow root crops between the trees

The strawberry tree is like a running bamboo. It will come up in other places you didn't plant them.

I have a similar setup where I planted the borders of my yard to leave the center free for the kids

@@BensExoticFlorida it’s working so far, most of my trees are still under 5 feet tall. Time will tell.

A subscriber fan here love your setup, and videos. Learned slot from you thank you for sharing your knowledge. Question how do you water so many trees and fertilize routine. And what part of FL your located I ask because you have many cold sensitive fruit tress. I'm located in Oviedo ,central fl. Area . Been wanting to get a few Calls ill a varieties myself but nervous of the occasional cold fronts we get here. I might plant them in a 25 gallon pot for moving them into my enclosed patio during the cold days what do you think.

@edwinreyes7699 thanks! I'm in Boca Raton so it will get into the 40s for a few nights a winter but I don't think there's been a freeze here in decades. You definitely won't be able to grow some of the cold sensitive trees in central florida where you get a freeze every year, unless you do serious protection. I water the trees after planting until they get established but then after that I rarely water anything unless there's a serious drought and the trees are looking thirsty. I use all purpose miracle gro fertilizer every couple months on the smaller trees (sapodillas, mamey sapote, jaboticaba) but I don't really fertilize anything else. I don't really do anything on a schedule, just when I feel like something needs something.

@edwinreyes7699 a dwarf sapodilla like the silas wood can be a great varieties to keep in a pot so you can move it inside during freezes. Mature sapodillas can survive freezes but I don't think young trees can. I think the same exact thing can be said about starfruit too.
