- The S&W model 64 is the stainless steel version of Smith & Wesson`s classic Military & Police revolver chambered in 38 Special.
Shout out for Milsurp Garage.

Pretty gun! Looks like early 1973 vintage. That model never had recessed cylinders. S&W didn’t recess cylinders on .38 special models. Thanks for sharing. Your collection is enviable.
The outdoorsman does.
I think it's the model 38-44.
I looked up the manufacture date when I bought it 3 years ago, but now I don`t recall what it was, except that it was early.
I love the model 64. It should be used as an icon for all guns.
Thanks for taking time to watch.
I took my Model 64 for a spin this weekend. Absolutely love this revolver.
You should show it off in a video sometime.
Classic Smith and Wesson perfection.
No such thing as perfection, but the Smith K Frames are hard to beat.
I have a heavy barrel model 64. Former Texas Department of Corrections pistol, electropen inscribed under the barrel. Great shooter, added stainless Tyler T grips to the stocks.
You should do a video with it sometime.
I prefer the standard tapered thin barrel on these 64/10, pre model 10 type Smiths. To me they have a better balance than the heavy barrel. That no dash is a beauty!
Thanks.
Wow! Very nice revolver👍
Thanks 👍
Most of the 64's I've seen have the heavy barrel, it's cool you got the box and stuff for it. Have a good day
Only the early ones had the tapered barrel. Never really understood why they went to the heavy barrel on the model 64. 38 Special doesn`t have enough recoil that the extra weight makes any real difference in felt recoil.
Maybe it was just to simplify manufacturing. A non tapered barrel would require less machining and they could use the same barrel on both the model 64 and model 65.
@@1957Shep i think the later 64/65 are same gun with different reamed cylinder, wish I had a 65 to compare with
@@ironmonkey1512 All the K Frame S&Ws are basically the same gun. Just different calibers, sights, and barrel lengths.
We have one with the bull barrel. It was a French police trade in. It is awesome
They are good revolvers.
By the way, that was a nice Garand you had on your channel a while back.
@@1957Shep I like the look of the thinner barrel better though. That garand is probably one of my favorite rifles to shoot!
Very beautiful example!
Thank you!
You have quite the collection, your always pulling out something new. Its very entertaining to see what you will show next.
Thanks. I have videos uploaded a year in advance (2 a week) right now. Had to have something to do after I retired. :-)
Next 3 to go live is a S&W Pre-model 15 from 1956, a Webley Mk IV, and a 1962 Colt Detective Special.
I have a 64-3 and a 64-5. You don’t see those pencil barrel no dashes come up very often. I’d say that’s probably 1970. My -3 with a pinned heavy barrel was made in 81
I looked up the date of manufacture when I bought it a few years ago, but offhand I don`t remember what it was. But it was early manufacture.
@@1957Shep I looked up your serial number in a Smith & Wesson standard catalog. Looks like 1972-73
Esse costuma ser espetacular! Revolver Smith Wesson calibre 38Special!
The SN that flashed for a second should be a 1970 or so. I carried one for 8 years 75 to 82 when our PD issued model 19.
Thanks
Hi ! shep great gun mod 64! It’s good to see the variety of S&W’s. It’s good to see how they shoot with different types of ammo! Great video 😊
Thanks.
I have a Model 64-1 with the heavy barrel. Thanks for the video !
Thanks for taking time to watch. Most of the 64s were heavy barrels. Think this variation was only made a few years.
I think it was about the same for the Model 65's also.
It has the halfmoon front sight, that has to be an early one for sure
I think only the 1st variation (model 64 no dash) was made in this configuration. Starting with the model 64-1 they all had heavy barrels with ramp front sights.
Mine is a later version with a ramp sight
Love those K frames! By the way Happy New Year!!!
Happy new year!
She's easy on the eyes!
Back then they still put a lot of work into fit and finish.
Nice!👍🏾😀❤️🇺🇸
Thank you!
I believe the 64 no dash was made from 70-73 or somewhere in those few years.
Sounds about right. I`d have to look it up to be sure.
Great video, solid info, new subscriber. I am new to S&W revolvers, as I always had Colt revolvers. Just got an 1960's M36 with a pinned barrel, but I didn't understand why it didn't have the recessed chambers. I was under the impression that you either had both features or neither. Your M64 also has the pinned barrel but no recessed chambers. It doesn't seem the older 38 specials have the recessed chambers, like the older magnum revolvers, is this true?
On S&Ws, only the magnums and rimfires had the recessed chambers. The rimfires still do even today.
The pinned barrel and recessed chambers (except rimfires) ended in the early 80s. Low pressure cartridges like 38 Special and 45 Colt never did have recessed chambers on Smith revolvers.
This video was difficult for me to watch. I sold mine in order to buy my S&W model 66. I wish I had both.
That is why I never sell or trade anymore. Always end up regretting it.
Yeah, S&W 64. Beautiful shape, grips must have been replaced or refinished to be that nice. What was the original sales price?
Original grips. Doubt this gun was ever carried and not shot much. Was still in the box when I bought it. Don`t remember what I paid for it. That was about 3 years ago.
Beautiful piece. Barrel looks kinda bent out of shape though . . .
I think that’s a shadow effect
Optical illusion.
Is it ok and reliable to shoot +p on this revolver?
Depends on how old they are. Older ones were not rated for +P. But I think the only real difference between those that were and those that were not was in how they heat treated the forcing cone.
🙂👍☕
Thanks.
Do they make 3 inches? I’m new to revolvers and I’m looking to get me my very 1st one this 2023
They used to make them with a 3 inch heavy barrel, but they are not very common.
@@1957Shep what do you recommend for a first revolver? I’m leaning towards S&W only.
@@misssassycompany9950 That would depend on what you intend to use it for.
@@1957Shep carry, range gun and bedside. In short, all around wheel gun.
@@misssassycompany9950 Take a look at the S&W model 686. You might find it a bit big to carry concealed, but everything is a trade off if you want an all around "do everything" gun.
The 686 is built on the L Frame in 357 Mag/38 Special. Slightly larger and heavier than the K Frame gun in this video.
If you want to look for a used gun, there are lots of K Frames out there like the one in this video and similar.
Model 10, 13, 14, 15, 19, 64, 65, 66, and 67. All of these are the same basic revolver, just differing in sights, barrel length, finish and caliber.
That's a sweet honey.
Thanks.
You ever want to sell that blaster I would be interested in buying it.
I don`t sell or trade anymore. Always end up regretting it.
@@1957Shep I don't blame you. Model 64 tapered barrels are rare birds. My buddy chose one as his first carry cop gun hence my interest,.
Pencil barrel.
Classic.
I love gun.
Plesse give me.

Would not be legal.
