    I had a good look around one of these a couple of weeks ago. I love it it's surprisingly spacious for such a small caravan. Its ideal for mountain biking weekends etc

    Looks good for touring, working away and active weekends away. Think swift have made a van for me

    My friends and I have just ordered our basecamps at the caravan, motorhome and camping show. Looks even better, feels roomier and more impressive than I imagined. Certainly more luxurious than our tents. Can't wait for the summer!

      Sparkmeister my parents have one, best caravan they have bought apparently won’t shut up about it. Even have it in an almost ready to go setup so they can just hookup to the car and explore

    We saw this at high bridge caravans, loads of people we’re looking at it including my self. Considering buying one, my wait to see the 2019 version............ looks great 👍 fit easily on my drive also.

    this looks really good that you can sleep outside and that there is space outside your wash your dogs and stuff and you get showers inside because I have seen some where you have to get showers outside as well as you wash your dogs and stuff and it's space inside is quite a lot of space to put stuff in and you can still move around

    Brilliant work on this design. I had a couple of airstream basecamps almost a decade ago (still in the uk I think) and they were the start of this genre. Took a motorbike. Swift design looks great.

    The huge level of interest in this can be seen from the number of views this vid has compared to PCs usual viewing figures. We saw one yesterday and were impressed. Slightly amused to see that PC have rated the van as 3.5 out of 5 on their website with one of the cons cited as "too comfortable for some".....bet they never say that about a more conventional design! We've been considering an Eriba and this definitely felt more spacious and comfortable. Unlikely to hold its value quite so well though I imagine and from a similar price point. Someone asked about gas bottles....gas locker is on the nose, completely conventional.

    Looks very much like the ABI Adventura that was available in the late 1990’s. Complete with back door and similar bathroom position. The ABI has an extra door from the outside into bathroom allowing entry into the shower. The ABI was also a lot lighter, why do I know this - my ABI is still on the road!!!!

    I like the idea, it just looks a bit Spartan inside, perhaps a touch of colour on the wall might make it seem a little less austere and a little more inviting, somewhere where you might want to relax on an evening.

    I was really, really in favour of this caravan until Knaus revealed their Sport & Fun Black Edition caravan. Whilst longer than the Basecamp, the convenience of not having to make up a bed every night and a huge garage area below it, make the much better looking Knaus Sport & Fun Black Edition a winner. The only thing that is still far better on the Basecamp is the shower.

      You are absolutely right. Your comment made me look at the Knas and I prefer it to this van. I really like the dining table set up in the Knas as well. Thanks for the tip.

      Longer, pricier, no oven, more limited shower than Basecamp, but I agree a nicer van in every other way. Probably less likely to leak too. My drive is 6.15m so as much as I'd like one I can't. Almost worth moving over!

    We have a Base Camp, the nearside trim and reflector fell off on a windy drive to the Lake District. It had been stuck on with a piece of wood and double sided tape. Very poor quality and it's going to cost £200 to replace and no, it's not covered by the shell Warrenty they tell me.

    While I applaud the idea behind this new van I'd love to see how you get on with that awning on a caravan club site, it doesn't fit in with their silly rules 😂. The jockey wheel has to be on the spot marked x so no room behind I'm afraid.

    • @georgeknowles8762
      @georgeknowles8762 6 років тому +3

      Mel B
      Just ignore the rules. You're paying your annual membership and also the ridiculous prices and extras they charge for the night on club sites. That makes you the customer. Or go to a fully serviced Certificated Location. Water, electric, grey water disposal on each pitch. Cheaper. Only 5 caravans on site. Sometimes even free Internet.
      Only ever been to one club site. Apparantly I parked my caravan the wrong way round and therefore put the awning on the "wrong" side. My neighbour fetched the warden and whilst talking to him was gesticulating wildly in my direction. The warden did nothing. I just looked on and said nowt.
      Some caravaners are so far up their own orifices they can brush their teeth without opening their mouth.

      My experience with most awnings means that the video would have to be a feature length adventure movie box set with violence, bad language, divorce and attempted murder. Parts, I, II, IIII, and IV.

    • @georgeknowles8762
      @georgeknowles8762 6 років тому

      I don't think that there would be an on board water tank in a caravan of this size. You'd have to have an Aquaroll on the outside with a submersible pump. The water heater has to be primed before use. 8L is a bit small. Mine is 10 L and by changing the shower head to an Ecocamel we can just about get two quick showers with one tank full of hot water mixed with cold from the outside Aquaroll.

    You don’t cover the suspension anywhere. What sort of suspension is typical in European vans?

    • @georgeknowles8762
      @georgeknowles8762 6 років тому

      Stephen Woods
      Typically rubber or torsion bar swinging arm suspension. My caravan didn't have shock absorbers (dampers) even though the suspension had attachment points. I fitted some myself (obtained from the chassis manufacturer, who recommends them anyway) and found an immediate and noticeable improvement in handling. Also probably better fuel economy, but that's difficult to confirm without a proper scientific test.
