- This new product for the GR86/BRZ has caused a bit of a stir in the community so I figured I'd order one to see what it really is like! It's a trunk brake light that replaces the black trim piece on the trunk with a functional brake light! What do you think?

I was waiting, had it in my cart. I think that finish and gap turned me off from it. Maybe some black tint over the whole thing would fix that finish if the tint stuck. Hoping there's a higher quality one coming to market. Thanks for highlighting that, Kevin!

I think it looks sweet! Maybe another version or iteration can improve upon it, like a smaller gap and better plastic finish. Would love to see it in the dark.

I always appreciate your honest takes on the products you try. Some might see it as nitpicking but no, things like the plastic finish and the light bar not quite lining up would absolutely bother me too. That said, I still think this is a cool look overall as long as you don't examine too closely. I've seen some full brake light kits that come with that trunk light. If a decent one of those comes along I'd probably go that route.

It's ok. If someone likes the style and wants to be different, ok, but the amount of work, rewiring and routing, I wouldn't do it. I love that you can give 100% honest reviews on your channel!
When 911.992 comes with the light bar a few years ago, I think the light bar design looks cool. It works on the 911. However, now the UX has it, the avalon has it, the accord has it, everyone has it... And in most cases, it just looks... lame. When I get my 86 earlier last year, I feel like there should be a light bar. Over the year, seeing all the new cars come with a poorly designed light bar. I am tired of it. 4th brake light is good enough. Any more light in the back just makes it look busy.
Thanks for doing this! I saw photos of it and thought about it but now seeing it and hearing your feedback I’m going to pass. It’s a great idea just needs more tweaking.

Kevin, get a few sheets of rigid foam insulation and put them on your ceiling to help hold the heat in! For the price of this brake light you could have it covered.
Looks great! It would have been nice too to see it under complete darkness. It doesn’t appear super bright. Nice addition tho! 😍
I also don't like that the LED itself has a different color tone than the OEM Taillights

its a cool idea, but i dont like how it sticks out from the body... plus not compatible with oem hardware & didnt come with hardware AND you had to re-pin the wiring! so I'd call that a fail.
I saw something like this a few months ago. I liked it visually at a distance, because photos don't really show details like plastic finish and alignment. Now that you've shown that, I don't really want one until someone else has made a better version. The finish might be fixable with some plastic polish, some sandpaper, polishing pads, a drill, and some careful patience. The alignment issue is a bit of a turn off. It's bad enough that the trunk button isn't usable, but it seems like the product was rushed, or there wasn't enough budget to get it done right.

Loved the end, super cool to see a great showcase of the product but then getting your honest opinion
I personally don’t like it, but everybody is different.
I think that the concept is good, but the execution is lacking. It needs to flow better with the stock tails.
The idea is cool and how it works looks great! But I can see that it doesn't make the lights a continuous beam. Maybe if there's an aftermarket tail light set that extends that extra half inch to the light bar, I think that will tie it together very well.

It does look pretty good but between loosing the trunk button, the kind of rough fit, and then having to repin the wiring just makes this seem like its at best a rushed product that needs some more QC and redesign.
It’s neat be cool if it had some kind of animation when braking like the 4th brake light on previous gens

I reaaaaally like how it looks once it's on there, way more than I expected. That said between the material mismatch, angle/light not lining up, and removing the functional trunk button, can't say I'm dying to install this one myself. could maybe live with 1 or 2 out of the three lol.
It looks pretty cool, though the poor alignment and unfinished plastic is obvious and would probably annoy me.

Those mats are nice. I've had them in my Focus ST for 4+ years. They still look good even after daily use and plenty of grime kept off my carpet.
I had them for my WRX but for some reason i have caps on mine and i don't think they're removable
No. Lack of button is a serious oversight (I don't always have the fob to hand) and the overall finish/alignment is poor. Makes the car look cheap.
Tough call, this one for easier installation and no permanent alteration of the housing, or the alpharex for retaining a working trunk button.
hard to find a comparison of fit and finish of both vs stock trim.
Given the more difficult installation, hoping the alpharex maybe has a better installed appearance? Anyone here know?
I guess Grazio does one too but it looks to have the same problems.
I kinda wish it had those fancy flashing options when you step on the brake too, idk why but I enjoy that effect.

Vibes are off with these trunk brake light. It looks like the civic/charger backend not a good look. A long light connecting one tail lights to another is just not a good look imo, a bit too much imo.
It’s a cool idea and reminds me of the current generation Lexus IS but I think the execution was a little of some suggestion that I have for it is to have a better finish on the plastic and incorporating the trunk button onto it so it still retains the oem function
Looks good. Not being able to use oem screws and then not providing screw is a turn off tho.

The fact it doesn’t match the plastic on the car or the same colour as the lights is disappointing, but it’s a cool concept.
Just installed it but it only turns on while braking and not while the car is running any idea how to fix this?
Would have been cool if it faded out towards the center, then they could have left the trunk button

As much as I would love to test a set of hipermax Rs I just don't have the means right now. I have tested the Hipermax S and I was very impressed so I'd like to think the Rs are very good.

Hey Kevin, I am currently trying to rebuild a gr86 as it is my dream car. Happily won it at auction for really cheap around 7k with fees so I am really stoked to get started. I do have some question regarding the headlights. I have noticed that the BRZ headlights are more cheaper than the GR86 headlights, and I was wondering if they both fit universally with one another. Thanks!

Hey Kevin, could you please make a video on how to Install and change the colors of the AEM sidemarkers? I know you have a video up but it’s only the basic install and I’m having trouble changing the color to have them white instead of amber
I don't how else he could elaborate, it's all in that video which you've apparently already seen. What exactly do you need help with?
@@australianwi-fi my issue with the sidemarkers is that they’re currently amber and to turn it white, you have to splice the wires and then connect it to the DRLs but I’m not sure exactly how it’s supposed to connect to it, I thought about doing it and testing it out but also not wanting to try it due to potentially messing up the sidemarker, I’m still a beginner with working on my car so I’m not wanting to mess it up and then having to buy another pair
Pick yourself up a set of these taps and you can use them to tap into the wire that I believe I pointed out in that video. amzn.to/3krilJK
I think tinting or however you can match the finish to the tail lights it would look good but seems like alot of work for the gaps to to still exist like you were talking about
