  • This obscure song, "I Can Read Between the Lines," written by Sid Frank & Ray Getzov was recorded as a single by Frank Sinatra on May 2, 1953, arranged & conducted by Nelson Riddle, during Sinatra’s 3rd recording session for Capitol records & only the second session with Nelson Riddle. It was during this session that he also recorded “Anytime, Anywhere,” “My One And Only Love,” & “From Here To Eternity.” "I Can Read Between the Lines" did not appear on an album, until it was included as a bonus track on the Capitol LP, Where Are You, released in 1957.

Though a melancholy song, he is smooth…smooth as ever. There aren’t “bad” Frank songs. Thanks for sharing this as it was new to me.

I know this wonderful song. Sinatra certainly expressed lyrics with great skill.

Thanks so much, catman, for posting this wonderful rarity by Frank! Billy Eckstine also recorded it for MGM in 1953 (released in July of that year), also with Nelson Riddle conducting the orchestra. This makes me wonder if Nelson was responsible for introducing the song to either or both singers! I have not been able to find any other recordings of the song.
