I loved Apocalypse Now from the first time I saw it which may have been the early ‘80’s. Herzog I was introduced to in the mid ‘90’s in a German film class and I’ve seen about 5 of his movies which were all worth watching and had a certain quality to them. I rented Aguirre back then and have a DVD copy on my shelf now. Very cool to see the mad journey in what was surely a hellish world. I stumbled across Stephen Minta’s book Aguirre: The Re-Creation of a Sixteenth Century Journey Across South America (1993) about 2008 and I really enjoyed having the book to further flesh out the story. What’s funny is that I just opened the book to a page with the following line: ‘Long before Conrad’s Kurtz, Aguirre begins to show us the darker side of something that is already ourselves.’
Sir! Fair play to you for such a sound assessment -- oh, & for agreeing with my own. Cheers!

Very cool that the book exists, hope to check it out one day. Thank you for taking the time to share that!
