Well it depends on your personal situation but I can tell you at age 40 you definitely are not too old to try another career. I worked with a gentleman last year who just started sailing and he was a little older than that And he is really enjoying it
@@JeffOnboard I’m single, no kids and really nothing holding me back to pursue it as a career. I want too see the world a bit before I get to old and plus like hard work. I have been looking for a facility or academy that does all the required training in one place but really having a hard time getting pointed in the eight direction seems like. I called one place called Mymaritimecareer and didn’t get much out of them. I’m still trying to see what is available to people like me to get a foot in the door. Thanks for your encouraging reply!
go to www.seafarers.org and they have a training program and see if that would be something that would get you where you want to go. It is located in Maryland. Call for info also and you can see all about that option
I know the exact location I grew up in Baltimore Maryland and the 1st time I ever bought a car on the Internet that's where I had to go to pick him up...Rockville
Thank you for another wonderful video. Really interesting seeing how things work on the ships you work on. Really enjoy all your videos and always look forward to watching when you post another video.
Your edits are getting pretty good! So peaceful! I hope it really is for you mentally. Thanks for a very vital part of how the Earth runs globally. Must feel some type of energy from that. Take care Jeff
I love all your content, Jeff. Shorts, longer like this one.... I'm just fascinated by all of it. I'm happy with whatever you share with us. Does your ship ever accept passengers? We know people who have traveled space available on Maersk. Apparently it's a "thing." They said it's a very different (but fun) experience. You have to keep out of the crew's way and be able to entertain yourself because there is no "Cruise Director Julie." 😆 We're seasoned travelers, very independent, no need to be attended to; but I would worry about rough seas. I'm used to cruising on an ocean liner, don't know if my stomach could handle a storm on a cargo ship. I get sick every time we cross the North Sea on a ferry. I imagine it's similar.
First of all thank you and thanks for your comment. None of the UA ships I have worked on carry passengers but I have also heard of some that do not sure what ones or which country. Yes there are times at sea that for sure you would probably not love but most days are not bad at all.
Indeed that was a dredge ship. They are in the process of deepening the Houston Ship Channel to 50 plus feet to handle the latest round of mega container ships. At least to Bayport and Barbers Cut at the moment. I’m not sure if they are going that deep up the Buffalo Bayou portion of the channel. Most people don’t know that turning basin is damn near Downtown Houston and that’s over 40 miles of ship channel, of which at least 20 miles are various refineries and chemical plants.
That is cool Jack but I find a lot of times when the ships are in the middle of the ocean until they get closer to land the AIS information does not seem to always update
Sailed out of Galveston on Ruby Princess last January. we sailed past the dry dock holding the USS Texas, a WW1 battleship being restored into a floating museum, fascinating site and sight.!!
The USS Texas has been a museum ship since 1948. She’s been located near the San Jacinto monument, where Texas won its independence. But San Jacinto is not near anything but oil refineries now so they need to move it to a location with more tourists. They hope to move it somewhere near Galveston after the drydock.
Look on the channel here and I posted a video I think titled " How to Become a Merchant Mariner" I plan to make new one as well I hope this time home so very soon.....You first need all your documents like Passport, MMC (Merchant Mariner's Credential) TWIC card, physical and drug screening etc.... check out the video I made and i am going to do a new one soon
I have been in some nasty storms over the years but generally ships try to stay clear of that type of weather for the safety of the vessel and the people on the ship.. We often divert our course to go around storms
Always Jerry it's always good to hear from you and I appreciate you watching and always making comments... I have more footage I will be working on and posting soon after it is edited.
Great stuff! I'd love to see some more engineering content. It's neat to see the machining and welding, even though I'd guess it's a pain to be doing your job and filming at the same time.
I have done that in the past and I will try to do more again but normally when you are working it is extremely difficult to do something like that it would get in the way of doing the job...
Most of the rooms are close to the same with exception of the captain chief mate chief engineer and 1st engineer... Their rooms also are an office as well it is a larger space it is a cabin and an office all-in-one
Another fantastic vid Jeff, thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep them coming Jeff I really look forward to seeing them. Love the glasses, they look great ! Take care Jeff, sending best wishes from Liverpool, England 👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🍺
I appreciate you subscribing to the channel and I will have more very soon after I edit, but to answer you yes I have been to Japan although it was quite a while back.....ee ya soon and i will post gain very soon.
I don't think you understand...UA-cam shorts are different. They are portrait or can also look like a square shape...They are not the same resolution. That is not me...it is UA-cam. I can't change it you know what I mean? I always shoot 16x9 but short videos on UA-cam are not that format
Beautiful pictures of the ocean. STUNNING.Enjoy your break .Nothing like coming home when you've been away.Have a rest and relax

Hey Jeff thanks for all the videos. What are your hours normally like on board? 9-5 or longer? Thinking about getting into the industry
Normally 8am-5pm and overtime at night....Sundays just 8-5
How many TEU's does the ship hold when fully loaded?
About 4150
If that's the stretch of land north of Galveston then yes, the Bolivar Peninsula!
Yes as we leave Galveston Bay and entered the GOM it is to our port (left side) and the city to the right or (Starboard)

Hello from New Zealand. Due you have to cook your own meals in your room or do they have a mess room? 🤪🤪🤪
There is a galley and they cook 3 meals a day on the ship. We are not even allowed to cook in our rooms due to safety reasons...
