Israel is one of the newest formable nations in europa universalis and in this eu4 guide we will cover how to play them by starting as Semien, one of the rarest releasable nations in the game. Semien, also known as Beta Israel, is a three province minor nation that normally never exists, but using strategies found in this guide you can release them by playing as Ethiopia, declare your independence and reclaim the holy land - all in under 40 years!

Forming Israel as Semien specifically should be an achievement. I’m surprised that forming Israel isn’t an achievement already

@@eu4meta583 Not true. You can get that achievement without forming Israel at all as Semien or a nation that converted to Judaism through rebels, most likely Ethiopia. In fact, it’s way easier to do the Shemot is Not achievement as Ethiopia rather than Semien (which is why I stipulated that only forming Israel as Semien should reward the hypothetical achievement)
@@beanburrito4405 Even easier to do it as the Mamluks. Conquer the Jewish provinces from Ethiopia and get Jewish rebels to keep converting your land. Do it right and by the time you flip, you'll only have the convert a few more provinces.

@@DiamondDust132 That's how I did it, but the faster you try to force it all to happen and if you're a bit clumsy with it like I was, your game will be border line unplayable after accomplishing it because of the economic strain it puts on you. I needed to go through like 3 or 4 revolts before they converted enough land to make their enforce demands flip the county to Judaism instead of just becoming independent, and that just ruined my economy.
I personally would love to see an Orleans game, up with the matriarchy and all that.

Edit: The 'Beta' in Beta Israel means house, so they are the House of Israel.

I'd love to see an Athens run. Continuing the Crusader state mission tree or culture swapping to Greek and forming Greece and retaking old school hellenic lands or building a formidable tall empire there would be cool. Just anything out of Athens lol

you make a lot of references to Rabbis here but Ethiopian jews didn't/don't have rabbis, they have Kahens, which are closer to priests.
mainstream Jews also have a priestly class still-long-sidelined they may have been since the Temple got destroyed, the kohanim still has specific roles to fulfill in many parts of modern Judaism

I did this a while back and really enjoyed the challenge of defeating the mamluks and the ottos to get the required provinces for the achievement :D
funny coincedence i too am currently playing as semien/israel. i pretended that aggressive expansion does not exist and own everything between alexandria and sansibar before the age of reformation.
Are you using the "Home of the Jews" Torah aspect? The +35 opinion bonus on EVERY christian and muslim nation is insane and absolutely prevented coalitions from firing in my campaign!
@@AlzaboHD i actually missed that i thought it was just dev cost. i just kept declaring war and never gave anyone a chance to form a coalition lol. that strategy was inspired by social streamers theodoro playthrough.

This is a pretty fun run. I recommend grabbing the two gold mines in the south early - past the first Mamluk war at latest. It can help fund your economy till you get enough trade.

I'd suggest taking the time to get the Ethiopian gold mines before fighting the Mamluks, it makes for a much better economy. Once you defeated the Mamluks it's probably best to take as much Egyptian land as possible, state it and culture flip to Egyptian right after forming Israel.
The Levantine culture group is the third best after the German and Chinese and you are in an easy position to take advantage of that.
Try a Komnenos restoration, but instead of Rome, it’s Rum.

In ck3. starting as Han chinese in either starting date. convert to a traditional African religion, take over the british isles, and convert all of it to that religion.
Rough plan for that campaign
1. War your way down from your starting point to the coast
2. War your way over to the Horn of Africa
3. Convert to the Somali religion, and reform it
4. Now war to the British isles
This is just forming modern day Britain challenge

I'm new to EU4 and I am trying to follow your guide. I forgot to check scornful insult when insulting the vassals. Ethiopia beat back those attacking it, has built a bigger army than I can support, and I don't have the option of having Adol or any place supporting my independence. Also, before the truce expired my ruler had an heir that was significantly worse than he was, and very quickly took over the throne. Should I start over or is it salvageable? Also, what am I supposed to do with the merchants? I can only see one trade area to send a merchant to, and he can either steer trade which gives me 0.00 ducats, or collect from the node which gives around at least some positive ducats.

Hit mamluks when they are busy?
That's a tough call. It seems like there is something in the code that makes mamluks ignore any AI enemy they are fighting against, and focus all their forces on the player. I have tried that trick with the Ottomans while the mamluks were fighting in Africa, the Mamluks let the africans ravage their land in order to concentrate all their forces against me. I tried again with mughals while the Mamluks were fighting the Ottomans. The Mamluks ignored the Ottomans and let them advance up until Egypt, so that they could send all their army to defend their precious territories that were next to me (lol). I even tried that with Vijayanagar, the Mamluks were fighting the Ottomans again. I mean I was not really surprised when the Mamluks pretended the Ottomans were not there, sent their entire army against me and valiantly managed to defend their provinces in Arabia. Too bad the Ottomans just marched, took their capital, forced them to lose most of the middle east and pay heavy tribute but hey... at least they did not lose to the player...
