Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лис 2017
- On a late September day in 2015, three women were brutally killed in Renfrew County, Ontario. And now 59-year-old Basil Borutski stands convicted of those crimes, the details of which he revealed in a rambling five hour interrogation in which he cast himself as victim. The truth is that Borustki had been well-known to police for years. How did the system that’s supposed to protect women go so disastrously wrong? Gillian Findlay investigates, with revealing interviews with family members, friends of victims and witnesses ... and excerpts from the Borutski confession.

The parole officer who allowed him to go back into that town should be in prison too!
Agree
Parole officer wouldn’t of been worried about an old man with some violence towards women when he’s looking after felons with worse crimes or that are more difficult
I imagine parole officers don’t have easy jobs
@@bensonhedges479 An old man with some violence toward women?? He wasn't that old, he was physically quite strong, he refused to sign papers saying he wouldn't contact the women who put him in jail, and he said he was going to kill one of them.
This whole thing is a story about everyone dropping the ball.
@@derp195 call it Canadian dodge ball. But he was cute, built good. Wether that helped him to be more elusive..who knows

What does 'virtue signaling' mean?
@R2 D2 Do you bash women also,dont want a rodeo,just wondering?
I tried. Lol
To show what a coward this guy really was he wrote a note to police while he was ‘hiding’ at the park and stuck it on a bush where they’d be sure to see it. The note said, “Please don’t shoot me. I don’t have a gun.” Real tough guy, eh?
Lmao. Its really not funny but it's so ridiculous it is
@R2 D2 I have no idea what you're saying. What are you on about? Or which of us are you speaking to even?
@R2 D2 I didnt know. That's why I asked
@R2 D2 how is he virtue signaling or a tough guy in his comment?

The moment he refused to serve that protective order is a red flag so big that it could be spotted from the surface of the moon. He should have been remanded back into custody with that refusal, because it screams "I REFUSE to comply, and will terrorize this woman again at the first opportunity". But no, they let him go, and then the parole officer compounded that grievous error in legal judgement by his own stupidity.
This is a case where foresight was as crystal clear as hindsight, and the legal system ignored the warning signs. They are complicit in the deaths of all 3 women. They are complicit in the pain this killer foisted upon their families and loved-ones. They. Are. Complicit.
The court ORDERED him to attend a counseling group that met in a township that they had ORDERED him not to enter? No excuse for his actions, but in this part of it he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't...
And if he would not sign the protective order, how could they release him? That ALONE should violate any probation promises the court may have been given...
Leon I don't see why they could not have had him getting counseling in another place like Pembroke for example. Telling him to go to Eganville when he was ordered not to go there, is rather stupid. Add to that they did nothing about him not going for help. Why not give him counseling while he was in jail as well. I guess there is nothing to help them, with anger issues n prison. There should be.
Its Canada. Need I say more lol
@@spicher08 yes you do. We Europeans cant even comprehend how that's even possible .elaborate plz?

Entropy Great points. So many things contributed to these women's death. Seemed so avoidable, right? Glad to know the U.S. system isn't the only broken one, but sad because it desperately needs to change before more ppl get needlessly killed.

Basil Borutski was well known in upper Ontario for his history, his very dark history with women. Yet, the police failed time and time again to act. Either acquittals or little jail time, would lead to Basil thinking the system and everyone was out to get him. He was innocent, not the victims, and he would make sure they saw justice.

This all could’ve been prevented. The system being corrupt is an understatement.
Absolutely.
What can you expect from an abnormal stressed man with chronic back disease , and the authorities were well informed about it and not taking that into consideration for a possible hospitalisation before getting him free .
@Another stimulating comment hearing corrupt canadian authorities is unbelievable , a country in our mind where corruption is not in its daily life dictionary . Since the 1990 murder crimes are increasing dramaticaly mainly with the weird case of ex col russel williams showing that there is something wrong with canadian society in generale is it because of the harsh climate , loneliness , social independance , excess of drugs & alchool or just spoiled indépendant materialist poeple lacking love empathy solidarity & moreover sentimentale stability . Sigmund Freud needs to be resurected to dignose canadian case .
They didnt strike me as corrupt so much as understaffed and at times incompetent. Plus, stuff like him persuading the parole supervisor to let him enter that town strikes me as the stereotypical (not saying true in all cases, but a running theme in these 5th estate videos) where canadians are too kind and while trying to be helpful are taken advantage of
@@napben2192 Then there are the phama drugs he was on. Oxies being one of them add to that the antidepressant. Oxies so strange things to some people. Any opiate does. Some antidepressants are also a big bad. Sometimes the longer you take them the worse you get. I have seen some pretty messed up people over the years due to phama drugs. As the years went by he was probably given higher amounts as well. Add those to anger over something and bad things can happen. Pharma drugs are not all they cracked up to be. Addictive ones are the worst. The side effects can be pretty devastating. If he had been given pot for pain odds are he might not have gone down this road. Opiates can really mess people up. The same goes for many antidepressants. Many of them are addictive as well. Side effects from them can lead a person down the wrong road as well.

So many failures at so many levels. How can an area like that have so many victims of domestic homicide? What is wrong with law enforcement and the legal system there that has allowed so many to die at the hands of those that supposedly loved them? The best one yet... "It took the jury three days" to determine Basil's guilt... Three days?! What is wrong with everyone there? Three hours maybe, but three days? C'mon! 😠
“A drowning man will always drag you under” I’ve never resented a phrase so much. If a man is struggling help him, we’re not all this POS.
Struggling is a bit different to drowning. One is an inconvenience the other is death.
This comment reminded me of a story I heard once. This person was saving his drowning wife and she was panicking. He had to punch her unconscious so he could save her. Totally true.
41:17 The jury must’ve been dumb. How does it take a jury three days to come up with a decision. If I was on the jury It would take less than 15 minutes. And the reason it would take that long is because I would like an introduction to all those that are in the jury. With a confession history and the evidence I would’ve saved the government a lot of time,15 minutes guilty. If there’s a death penalty I would use it.
Remember this is Canada where all murderers go free after awhile. That guy who cut off a random person's head on a city bus, he got ten years and he's already out. Seriously, in Canada, murderers are treated with kid gloves.

This happened an hour from me. I've followed the case from minute 1. Borutski is a psychopath. The so called, 'legal system' here, failed these women miserably. "I didn't murder them, I killed them." Okay there, Einstein.
Bruno, I have watched that, interview/interrogation. As I've stated, this happened very near to me. The circling helicopters, the lockdowns, it was all very frightening. I can't begin to imagine what these poor families went through. R.I.P. Anastasia, Carol and Natalie.

His last name suits him Borutski (Brute). He is a brute, a bully. His victim mentality is very detrimental to society. He's the type of person that will blame everyone and everything for his life, never taking responsibility for himself. There's women like this as well with victim mentality.
These types of people are to be avoided at all cost. They are incapable of change. Deal with them at your own risk.

Every fight hes in he feels wronged. Always. Was charged with assault of our 14 year old son. Beat some older guy up once, than again once released as he went and found him. He showed up in a rage and smashed the windows in trying to take our daughter, a psychiatrist reported him as unstable, has history of owning illegal firearms and yet... still hasn't been locked up.....Canada has got some major improvements to make. Been going through this since 2008 when we broke up, hes been pissed off since. This is all just some recent happenings too.

The *MOST* shocking part of this tragedy, that it took the jury *three* days to find him guilty. WTAF?!
The reason it took so long is because I thnk his mental health.
3 days to convict ? Hardly surprising given the apparently extraordinary ineptitude of the Canadian justice system and judiciary. The decision makers who continuously let this halfwit pass unhindered through to freedom deserve to be rounded up & imprisoned , so fast their feet don't touch the ground! Shameful.

Poor communication between police and parole authorities
Evil arrogant narcissistic man used that to his advantage
Two years after my divorce my EX husband use to just walk in my apartment and act like it was nothing. Depending on the state he was in, in the US he would have gotten at least life without parole. Some states would have given him the death penalty. He would still be in prison for that beating. Capitol crimes get Capitol punishment. And the law enforcement agency would have gotten sued by the family for failing to notify victims he was out of jail.
I'm not a supporter of the death penalty, but Mr. Borutski's case may be the chief reason for that sort of punishment to be legalized in Canada.

It's not about pleasure, it's about power and control, same with rape. However, this guy is at another level, way beyond domestic violence. He's psychotic and a narcissist.
That's why women are afraid to file Domestic Violence charges. Even worst is Sexual Assault.
How typical for him to act like he was the victim. What a psychopathic narcissist !
when domestic victims of abuse lay charges and follow up with pursuing those charges and allowing the judicial system to step in, there may be less deaths.

Lndin Galle he got out last week, lol, only yolking eggy
Imagine how many people absolutely weren't surprised when they heard about what happened. How many people knew he was eventually gonna snap and kill someone maybe several people? But if some concerned citizens reached out to some bad folks and had ole Basil put to rest years ago they'd be considered as guilty of murder as Basil eventually became. If we have a judicial system of the people, by the people, and for the people shouldn't we have some kind of recourse for dealing with these psychopaths? Yes there are obvious reasons why you cannot under any circumstances allow vigilante murder but what if the investigation into the murder of say Basil be conducted in a way that once its determined that this was concerned citizens simply exterminating a ticking time-bomb, the investigation's focus would continue with that in mind? Obviously calling it a slippery slope would be an understatement but why do we as a society just sit and wait for these animals to eventually start killing people?

The Jury took 3 Days to find him Guilty?? Well, that right there is the answer to the question so many are asking about the Judicial system in Canada. People receive the type of Government THEY vote for. I feel so sorry for those women. Their fellow Citizens failed them.
ya i want a govt that executes people in the street without a trial. oh wait, thats what we have in america
That community is going to need a bigger rock soon. 😞
Megan Layne Omg the same awful thought came to me, and I kinda laughed, then I was like wtf? These are just a HANDFUL of women killed for no reason, and we just expect there to be 1000s more. Wow, shows how accustomed we are getting. Maybe that's the problem. Ppl like us, need to speak out more. Fight for new laws, etc.
This is a prime example why the death penalty shouldn’t have been abolished!!!!
he judged these woman, and decided to kill them. He didnt have any right to do so. why do you?
Sounds young, naive, immature.
Ever kill anyone?
I know that kind of retribution sounds simple. Take a life, have yours taken. It's just not that simple.
Capitol punishment doesn't work as a deterrent and most people affected by violence find forgiveness to be the only way to find closure so they can grieve and accept their new reality. They aren't forgiving the offender for the offenders sake. They forgive for their own peace of mind, so they can move on.
You have to be closer to the situation before espousing opinions on capitol punishment.
In my 50 years I have lost friends to murder, drunk driving and misadventure.
I know what I am talking about. Do you?
+Snowmansnow Snowman I agree with ALMOST everything you said except that I believe adults who torture and kill children with 100% certainty should be ‘put to sleep’. Not 25 years of appeals and this and that. The clearest cut of cases where the guilty party/s is found via the most solid of evidence; then....bedtime.
Jared Burgess, Yeah, kids. That's touchy. Even though I am against the death penalty I've struggled with the thought.
As a father, he's a dead man if I find him.
Funny thing is, I have known parents who lost a child to someone else's actions and they didn't want revenge. They wanted justice. Others lie in wait and get revenge.
I guess we don't know, 'till it happens, what we would do.
Thank God I never had to find out for myself.
These are the women I live for, those who couldn't escape like I did or who didn't get out in time. How do you beat an innocent woman, tell her she took the beating for his other women, and then have the nerve to say you're innocent caring and good? LOL.
RayneSaltair Right, but don't forget, he never hit any women, and of course was taking the beatings, cowering from his wife. And he would NEVER lie...most importantly, he didn't murder anyone. .he killed them..so he's in jail for what again! ? Lol he's a joke. So sad nobody protected the world from this "herb".
Is it only women or can men be vulnerable too??? Never heard of a vulnerable man in these crime/murder videos.....
The narrative does seem very 'flat shoe fraternity' if you catch my drift?
Again, a criminal justice system more sensitive to the rights of the criminal than the victim. "The judge by law couldn't take into consideration the previous episodes of violence against other women." What conceivable justification could there be for such an asinine law? Three innocent women died because of this misguided law!
Be Careful out there folks, Life can be so unfair to life's fairest people..
That guy just keeps saying he’s the victim, wtf? What’s common between these women??? He is, maybe that should tell him something!!
Because con men consciously try to say and do all the right things. The 'con' in 'con-man' stands for confidence. They say all the right things in order to gain the confidence of their target. A man who isn't a con-artist who is trying to court a woman will, no matter how great he is, say and do some things that are a turn-off. Con-men won't do that. They exploit the tendency for relatively normal adults to feel that they deserve a perfect partner. Single middle-aged adults are particularly vulnerable because they have spent a lifetime dealing with less-than-perfect partners who inevitably left their lives. They're now in a stage in their lives in which they are not willing to 'settle' for a partner. They don't want a 'fixer-upper', or someone with 'baggage', some of which of course every normal middle-aged adult will have acquired along the rocky roads of life. So that leaves them open to be the perfect target for romance-based con-men: Since they are waiting for Mr. Perfect to show up, and since Mr. Perfect doesn't exist, the only person who could possibly show up is a con-man pretending to be Mr. Perfect.
You might want to ask a woman about this, Calvin. You're missing something rather... glaring.
Rata 4U: Well I would think that most if not all con-men have narcissistic personality disorder. At least the successful ones would. But being narcissistic does not automatically mean one has to take advantage of others, or be violent. Those are choices people make regardless of where they fall on the personality disorder spectrum.
he is a narcissist. he only sees himself. and he doesnt care about others.
freedom: I agree, but the question was why did three different women decide to pursue a relationship with him, not why does he take advantage of women.
talk about delusional ...
I dont understand Canada's penal system. He murders three women in cold blood. Searching for a gun before hand says it was premeditated. Then Canada gives him a sentence with eligibility for parole. I have seen multiple 5th Estate documentaries and Canada's sentencing leaves its citizens in danger.
Watch the whole interrogation video - there’s more to this story than this documentary is making out.
What a Catastrophic Story....There are no words to describe the Horror these Poor People went through.....
He should have gotten life without parole. Why were the previous domestic assault charges dropped?
@Enoch Powell I’m not keen on your wording but essentially that was it. He screamed up, down and sideways for help and for someone to listen and never got that help which sadly ended in tragedy for the women involved :-(
Evidently, Canada needs to fix it's broken system of justice, ASAP!
