A lot of the people in comment section are talking about ‘Ragging’
    Just a clarification.
Ragging in MBBS has come to nil in many colleges.
But the video I wanted to make and make you realise was related to the workplace harassment at the hands of seniors during your PG / Residency .
PG in India or the fact anywhere in world is littered with issues
    1. Pimping
    2. Excessive work hours
    3. Making your juniors life hell and punishing them for smallest of mistakes!
MBBS is fun ; unfortunately MD/ MS is not!
And senior doctors see Juniors as competition and don’t let them grow!
A request to all PG aspirants - don’t be that senior which you yourself despised.
Let’s change this. The change begins with us!

Sir, what can fellow PGs do if they see their batch JRs getting ragged like this?
Will complaining against the criminals help in anyway or backfire?
Because as an intern I did face quite a bit of harassment from an ortho resident. I very much wanted to complain against him to the HOD, but I didn't because a senior PG scared me by saying that the consequences wouldn't be good. Till this day I regret not complaining against that guy because he didn't just harrass me , but was the worst example for a doctor and a senior.

I looked up their names on the internet, I think something more powerful and effective measure than a committee needs to be created. Maybe create an anti bullying ngo or create a website where the victims name names, along with posting concrete evidence of their harmful behavior, please talk to some good lawyers before you start this project.

I am from Pakistan... Done my MBBS from China. Raging was for one night. But one senior bullied me for 5 months just torturing with words and creating obstacles for me same or worst was happening to my classmates . And one day I berated him publicly in front of my class he started crying . I was first year student he was 3rd year and he went to seniors I complained about me. And asked them to teach me lesson. One pg texted me to come to his room. And that 3rd year guy was still crying. Senior asked me apologize... I told him now I don't give a sh*t about mbbs I you guys want to fight I will fight till end. I will not apologize to anyone. Tell your dog don't bark at me otherwise I will split his and his masters head. Call your whole batch in ground at night and I will only come with iron rod. At that point my honor was more important to me. Then their tone got smooth. I told them I won't apologize.
3 months later my whole class had enough when one ome boy was severely beaten by some senior ...my whole class came to common hall and demanded that they handover those responsible seniors at 12 clock or we will fight against every seniors . Our boys were furious. Every senior came and apologize but when clock hit 12 our class all seniors came to apologize + we beaten a few of them . Few days Later I was sitting alone a senior asked me what would you do if i beat you.. You are alone. I told first I and my batch will make you a lesson that even your family won't recognize . And he could not even reply.

Sorry in advance. It got longer than I wanted haha.
Anyways, I did MS surgery from a government college in Karnataka. First doc from the family so no one to tell me how things were in this toxic field until i found out myself and it was already too late haha.. In first year of MS, our seniors made sure we all stayed till 12 am or 1am minimum everyday. By making sure, I mean they did everything in their power to make us stay that long in the hospital. I remembered completing all the work they gave us in a 5 page long work list by 11 pm, only to be asked to sample some LFT of some random completely stable patient at 11 am, and not allowed to go home until reports came out, so had to stay back till 2 am to get the report, that too i had to barge into the labs myself begging the lab assistants to process the sample i got myself(drew the blood, labelled the vacutainer, ran to the lab myself, queued myself to get the billing done early, and submitted the sample to the hand of the lab technician ALL BY MYSELF just so i could atleast get the report by 1 or 2 am atleast. Obviously the nurses could do it but I would not have got the report the next day had i given the work to a nurse.. So had to do it myself. Coz. Gotta sleep some right haha
Another time, they missed giving one important work in the morning, of getting a gastro opinion for a conservatively managed liver laceration patient and our profs were asking for it. So they asked us to get it done in the middle of the night, had to call the gastro pgs, beg them to come see stating it's an emergency, they also busy as ever, came after they finished their pre ops for the next day, at 2 am. I was there waiting for them to simply write Continue Same Treatment. Obviously next day work starts at 6 am so had to stay in hospital in one of the dingy duty rooms to wait for 6 am. Had they given that work in the morning it would've been done before 4 pm in the evening and maybe, just maybe we could've finished our work by 12 am atleast.
And these are the regular non duty/non emergency days.
I don't even want to remember the foodless/sleepless emergency duties we had back then. Duty day's lunch would be had at 2 am(IF WE ARE VERY LUCKY) in the night-that's 12 HOURS late by normal standards, and the break time for food would be 5 mins, max 10 mins. If unlucky this 12 hour late lunch would have to wait till the next day and be combined with the dinner of the next day. So basically it was a good fasting regime which helped me lose 14 kilos in 8 months 🤣
And the average step count per day was anything between 18k to 22k. Never was it lesser than 15k. So cellulitis was not uncommon either
We had many such incidents in 1st year ms, hurdles which would've been otherwise avoided if only our seniors and us worked together as a team, rather than them seeing us as victims for their torture, since their seniors tortured them, why should we NOT get that torture right?
But I guess getting to go home by 2 am atleast and getting to sleep in my hostel bed for 4 hours is much better than many of our friends in other colleges right🤣🤣🤣
I do feel obligated to add here that our batch vowed to not repeat the torture of our seniors and surgery department in our college actually enjoyed a period of bliss when we finally became 3rd year pgs. To the best of my knowledge, none of my friends ever repeated what our seniors did to us..
Hopefully our lucky juniors would continue that trend of sweetness we left behind in that college🤗
So anyone reading this comment, just know that residency in MD and MS is very TOXIC. If you want a stress free life, I would humbly suggest you NOT to come into it. At all.

This really needed to be said on a mainstream platform thank you sir. Somehow we have developed this mindset in our medical fraternity that it’s fine to rag or bully a JR1 in residency, “we suffered through it so it’s fine to let our juniors suffer a bit too” and often times it gets justified by saying things like “that’s how you get tough” or “we’re barely doing anything compared to what our seniors did to us”. While ragging culture has almost disappeared from UG its nowhere near over in residency and it might not disappear completely unless we decide to break this cycle of hatred by being kinder to our juniors and calling out this kind of behaviour. Wish more people would understand that residency being toxic as it is dealing with the patients, deaths, impossible working hours due to our overburdened healthcare system and all the various difficulties of residency we don’t need ragging but instead need a bit of kindness shown to each other as resident doctors and even if not as doctors maybe just as a basic human decency.

Wow Dr ! Ironically you just made aware all of us ! I'm a 12 th grader student and currently I'm also preparing for neet ug 23. And, My parents had admitted me in a hostel since I was in 5 th grader ... In that hostel, all the seniors and even my dominants classmates had taken my ragging and blackmailed me in all the possible way the whole 6 years ..they always beaten me without considering even once as a brother or junior ( although there's not a 0% fault of mine) ... always they all just had made me clean their all rooms and all clothes...from filling up their bottles to taking their meals of all 4 times in a day ( they were 13 boys in a group ) .. i always had to stand in such a huge row for recieving their all meals ,it was my
Daily routine scheduled by them ... And all what was my mistake is i was the topper of our school..and always i preferred studying instead of wasting my time with anyone of them ...they never studied like me ,but they always tried to disturb me and stealing my note books and my all foods from trunk ... Also as I had nice handwriting they all always compelled me to complete their all projects and practicals before the dead line
They just made my life unbearable... Many times I thought to suicide...but i became more powerful inside me and more tolerant..that life really taught me so many things which I'll never forget...
Finally I got relieved from that hostel last next year after completing 10th boards...
Nowadays,in also medical fields ragging is becoming more brutal..but no one cares ( dares ) to talk about this harsh reality.. before a year ago , one of my mama had cleared neet with 630+ marks and managed a college in Kolkata ...but he often cries in call with their parents ..all the seniors are making a junior's 5.5 journey so terrible...
Thanks for taking this step ... hope you'll do something..and we all should raise our voices against this bullshit together...
I HAD TRIED MY BEST TO CHANGE IT WITH ALL THE POSSIBLE WAY ,BUT FOR ME ,JUST A SINGLE PERSON IT DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING....
i had to tolerate that all...
I'm quite happy to share my experiences...if anyone also had this kind of experience feel free to share...

The problem is with the mentality ki hamari ragging Hui hai toh hum v karenge
Agar ragging hi karni hai toh apne senior ki karo na wahan pe dum dikhao
Junior ki kar k koun si apni namardangi sabit karne pe lage ho
And if at all u take a stand tumhare khud k classmate hi support nhi karenge
Not allowed to enter the library not allowed to go to bazar if at all u go u will have to wear the apron and go
Nahi kiya follow kya hi ukhaad lenge senior
But ur fellowmates will start boycotting u like in mess and your friend circle affected that friendship won't exist because they are afraid of repercussions
What your friends say ki senior help nahi karenge agar baat nahi Manenge . Arre uss senior ki khud hi back lagi padi woh tumhe kya hi batayega imp questions pehle khud toh pass ho jaye woh .
Another important drawback is teacher will support your senior they say it is healthy
Aree kahe ka healthy just because woh teacher khud fatichar hai and he/she couldn't do anything during their days crying in the corner expecting us to be silent like them ..not possible dear army upbringing hai
And if are localite then no one will dare.to touch u agar karenge toh bula lena relative . Koot ke jayenge ache se and mob has no face .
Tell your senior "Remember the moment u cross the gate of college premises neither u are senior nor me junior"

I am a first year medical student and I have witnessed as well as been a victim to mental harassment and long hours of ragging session in college after long hours of classes which made the initial days utter hell. It wasn't possible to study, even touching the book became a huge challenge. Sleeping hours were compromised which made many students bunk classes to complete their sleep, environment for freshers isn't any better and the teachings that they give as a medico is beyond imagination, it's because of this tolerating tendency of ours that they are habituated to rag and don't feel guilty even in future. I left the hostel as the last thing to approach was the authority which was completely indifferent. People take it very lightly and say ragging is nil but they are ridiculously wrong, even teachers are not bothered and they feel we are making excuses for not studying which adds immense pressure on a student as there is no way out. There are awesome justifications for ragging that you would hear in college and people act like hearing abuses, doing sexual acts waking up midnight to the call of a drunk senior that too when you have just entered MBBS is a very acceptable culture. The most shocking thing is these same students who have been through all these inhumane treatment rag the juniors and the cycle continues, the acts and language of medicos would make you wonder if they would really serve a patient someday. Moreover, the reliance of juniors on seniors make them surrender to all that they are doing, those seniors portray them like some angels who will be their only savior and blackmail juniors saying if they file a compliant they would boycott the entire batch for that one person who filed it as a result of which even your own batchmates who are convinced by seniors become your enemy, they also threaten you ki ‘wards mein dekh lenge’. They make you believe that how you filling a complaint will lead to your own detriment so you have no other option but surrender to the mighty senior. But at the end of the day they will give Gyan on Twitter that mental is an issue not addressed in MBBS when they themselves are the reason behind someone's depression and mental health.

Most of our seniors out there end up glamourising almost everything that is wrong in this field..from immense mental pressure to the heirarchy that is taken way too seriously than it should be to a really really really toxic work environment. I had been wondering for quite sometime now that why many seniors with youtube channels who are idolised by ug and pg aspirants alike never talk about it at all..never give any hint as to how ugly it can get..it is natural to believe they are okay with it and don't consider it as something that needs to be rectified. Neet ug apsirants really need to understand that it is not all hunky-dory as potrayed in the media..it is extremely draining and takes a lot from you.

This kind of inhuman behavior does not only happen in colleges but also in workplaces. The majority of the time junior doctors are put in a situation that will compel them to quit the job after undergoing a different kind of circumstances. Empathy is what is lacking 100% in these situations. People forget the doctor on duty is a human too.

absolute truth.. I felt the real hell during my residency period.. I did all the nurse works like a slave.. I had given twice weekly 48 hours of continuous duties without any post-duty off.. not even the basic human needs like food, water, and sleep were allowed to me.. later when I started my outside practice, the works I did during my residency have all been carried out by nurses in outside hospitals and they expected different doctor kind of works from me, for which I had not a drop of experience during my residency..

Maybe someone has already spoken about this but it's my first time seeing someone genuinely voicing out on this side of medicine..
I'm seriously hating myself for joining mbbs..
When I said my parents my college life is hell like professors and seniors treat us like slaves / toys my parents or relatives would say it's a part of your studies and everyone goes through this so it's not a big deal..
Only I know how many times I have thought of running away from everything..
After entering medical college I really feel like there is nothing called humanity..
Empathy and Sympathy are just used as words but not even the slightest action is shown..
I don't know when I will come out of this hell..
I have seriously started hating everything but it's sad no one wants to understand what's really going on in my life..
I have no idea what to do after mbbs..
I just know I screwed up my whole life in an aspect of my career..
I don't know if I betrayed my country in the past that I'm in such a situation today..
I hope parents can love their children by not choosing their life choices it's okay to suggest and if your child doesn't want it just stop it there instead of pressurising..

This video just appeared on my UA-cam suggestion. I am not a medico or a doctor or an aspirant. I wasn't much aware of toxicity in residency. But I happened to face an incident in a government hospital that made me so angry and disappointed that i have no words to describe. I wouldn't name the government medical college or the hospital here or defame any resident. My house help has a 2 year old son who fell sick suddenly and i drove her to the nearby GMC and when she entered the emergency, the kind of behaviour she got from the a PG resident and an intern was pathetic. The way they talked to my house help actually made her feel low and humiliated. May be because she appeared as someone who isn't that educated or belongs to an economically poorer section she faced such humiliation. When she came out crying and told me how she was denied proper help and the way she was treated. I had to step in and talk to them. My clothes and ability to speak English immediately changed their demeanor. And i was shocked to see that. On our way back home my maid and her sister told me that this kind of behaviour was usually faced by the local people whenever they visited the GMC or got admitted there. I understand there is tremendous work load and it's a stressful job but kindness and empathy doesn't cost much. There are many government doctor when they attend patients in a private chamber in the evening they are very polite. But the same faculty in the medical college acts like an entirely different person. I don't understand why this kind of discrimination has to exists. It's a very common complaint that patients often face rude, pathetic and disrespectful behaviour from the staff and doctors. Quite toxic !

I left my MS general surgery seat of Nscbmc jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh because of ragging ( session 2021-22) ……
We were not allowed to go to hostel and stay in ward 24/7 …..we rarely had time to take bath and eat ….
I am a female and married and I am from northeast India ( I am 26 years old now ) ……there was a male senior doctor ( DR P.D ) who would touch me and call me to do ward work ( I hated it ….he could just call my name .why the need to touch ? ) ….once I even confronted him by crying and telling him not to touch me but then he got angry and told me that I am questioning his integrity…and once he even threatened to slap me ( I really got scared and cried near him but he didn’t stop and said whatnot near all the patients ) and he even said he could destroy my life and make it living hell if he wants …..…..
These seniors would call us at night in the ward or casualty and do ragging ( murga and chair banah for them to laugh at ) to us till morning 4-5 am and we rarely get to sleep. It was truly traumatic for me …..nowadays whenever I sleep I dream of that place and I hate it and it makes me depressed….
I had to pay the bond to leave the seat too ( when I didn’t do anything wrong ) …..it’s really heartbreaking that all my hard work for getting a government pg seat was a waste and I even paid a large sum to leave such a hellish place …..

I was an intern last year and while my ortho posting were going on there were senior consultant who would try to make me feel I am just not good enough despite working for them for long hours and doing everything on one toe and the in between posting he hit me hard in on my head in front of the ward when he went to complaint to HOD he said its normal that and also said zayda nahi mara warna mar jati ...he hit you he justified his action instead of helping me and then when I went to college authority they also said it's nice that he had hit me. The time he hit me there was so much pain I don't know it it right that he hit me I went crying as no one supported these people are really messed up. On enquiring I got to know there were many students he used to hit but they used to keep quite as they were scared to oppose.
Sometimes I feel that doctors get blinded by the tag that people call them next to God or something like that as a result they have a false sense of superiority that they can do anything to their juniors be it anyone. UGH I HATE THIS. THIS SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDER CRIME.
