So pleased to have stumbled onto this episode. I lived at all the sidings including non inhabitated ones ( Fisher).. whilst assisting with the construction of Telecom optic fibre project across the Nullabor .The Tea and Sugar was our life line . Not many people are aware of this but the return Tea and Sugar was called the Bomber and we relied on this train to shift men and machines east (including bulldozers) I was thrilled to see old footage of the first passenger train at Ooldea as my grandfather Archibald Russell was the gaurd on that very first train ( and didn't he tell me some wonderful stories when I was a little boy) This country means a lot to me especially since my grandpa crossed it many times during his 40 years of Commonwealth Railways service. The people out there are unique and it was a pleasure to be part of their lives for a short time.
Just the opening soundtrack and images take me back to my early 20's. Wonderful days. Time is a cruel master.
The Tea and Sugar Train finished 9 years later in 1996!😒☕🍭🚆🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🛤️🏜️
Another great episode. It seems like this series was filmed at just the right time. A lot of the featured lines seem to have been amalgamated or disappeared altogether. Many thanks for posting.
Yeah,it's a good watch.
A social history and some characters.
Quaint life in the midst of nowhere, older clothing styles, the pop entertainment group are to be commended for their efforts. A life soon gone by, this clip is nevertheless a wonderful story of life on the edges of society.
The Tea and Sugar was an interesting train, but not as interesting as the Ghan, whose late running was often measured in days rather than hours, what fun for a conductor to be told by a lady that her baby was due any minute, he was berating her for travelling while pregnant, but said the lady, I wasn't pregnany when we left Port Augusta.

Being a pom I was delighted to see so many disgusting Brit things going on. Was that bloke having a boiled egg on cheese on toast. Cheese looked a bit thin though. Wonderful country and wonderful people. I had enough 'points' once.
Cook the real Australia! No crowds No Traffic jams No Pollution!😒🛤️🏜️🐪🦅🏚️🇦🇺
@Kabuki Kitsune Yea' it's just a water stop for the Trans Australia trains now. Its not quite as bad as the fate suffered by Ooldea.
Pre-stressed concrete sleepers would have amazed the builders of the Port Augusta - Alice Springs line.
Got the Book "The Desert Railway" a couple of years ago which features many of photos shown here!🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🛤️🏜️🐪🇦🇺🐇🐰

Half size ties, no wonder they wear out so fast. Ones going in are already split out.
Cook's a long way from New South Wales!🤨🚆🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🛤️🏜️🐪🦅
Harry does not know how to use a detector. Swinging too fast and lifting the coil too high.
Hoover was a mining engineer. How could he be there at aged 18?.
wow i used to live in kalgoorlie and the old loop line isnt like it is now.. but the local government is trying to bring the line back to life due to the super pit getting longer
Robert Chinnock l
the entertainment group was great with 'Surfing New South Wales' and LOL at Cook having a future after concrete sleepers.
and amazing where the super pit was then as to where it is now in Kalgoorlie
Renault 12s were imported in Australia?
yep!
These blokes should be out gold detecting this country.
the line is poor, it is constructed on the ground, without embankment, without ballast, and the sleepers seem to be also not in order....no wonder a record was broken! A stupidity record!
you should just duck out and fix it up, you'll be done in an afternoon
30:00 can anyone give me any info for this song?
