i own a 2014, excellent quad all around, but one thing that can really sucks are the stock handlebars. it feels cramped and kind of like a tricycles. i have since bought new renthals to fix that.
You guys ought to do a review on the updated trx450r model. It's been out for awhile obviously but I've noticed that there's barely information or reviews on the newer 450er's. I bought one recently after having an 04 and it's different enough that it's worth another review.
@BWRProductions The '06 has better shock valving than the '04, but a set of good/great shocks will make a HUGE difference in the handling. Works, Elka, Fox.
Im 15 and I just bought a 450r..2005 with HRC cam hmf and air filter...not a starter bike..im not doing good at all with the kickstart. .very hard if u only weigh 140 like I do..but overall very fun and very very fast!!
Not sure. I don't know the workings of the 450R starter system. Seems like the best would be to replace the starter and the starter gears. Lots of times the bearings/bushings get messed up and cause the starter to turn hard.

Then my starter motor gave up on me what should I do ? Can I buy a kick start kit and install it
@donny6932 id go with the trx400, less maintenance then the 450 and a lot nicer to ride on trails. Its a bullet proof quad youll never have a problem with it.

Hmmm....I believe it comes down to the caster angle. MAny people love a steep caster. I prefer it with more angle. Plus, all I can say is we all (I think there was about 7 of us) rode these machines back to back on a race track and in the desert.
Throw an exhaust on one and the beast is unleashed I'm not kidding this engine is just waiting to be woken up for full potential riding, also the suspension is easy to tune and being I'm not all that big it handles incredibly. Personally I like kicking it over but that is everyones personal opinion. But honestly all it needs is the extra power and you can use your torque to do anything include keep the front end from getting beat by ruts at the dunes. This machine is only good when modified.
@ATVTVCOM Okay I also heard they have a slightly longer swing-arm. Of those rear shocks what would you recommend as the best buy for the price? Also would a spring kit be worth looking into for both the front and rear?

Hey I've got a question specifically for you guys at ATVTV. I got rid of my 2004 Trx450r for two reasons, first of all I had logged somewhere between 400-500 hours on the quad and it was pretty destroyed. Second I hated that the rear shock kicked up on me, no matter how I adjusted it I couldn't keep it from bucking. Now I'm starting to really miss my Trx, didn't realize how good I had it. What would you recommend I do to combat that rear shock if I get another one? I'm lookin at 06+ Thanks!
Just the residue burning off. You shouldn't have used tire cleaner on the engine! It's okay - you just didn't hose it off good enough. Get it all burned off (or wash it again) before you show it to anyone. Best stuff to use on the engine exterior is (believe it or not) is vinegar - makes the aluminum look great!
@ATVTVCOM Thanks. Cause Im 14 and i ride a pretty highly modified 300ex and a moderatley modified 400ex like a 416 and a pipe and simple stuff like that and it just dont pack enough punch. And from what ive seen on your tests you say the z400 will eat a 400ex so im gonna start lookin for a z.
@400ex92 Yes you will be able im 15 and they are fast and have lots of power but for the most preformance you want a 2006 and up because it 2006 they redesigned the engine to make it more like the crf450r therefore makin the 2006 and up faster and have more power and another thing if your 13 i would recomend the 450ER its the same bike just with electric start

When are you guys going to give an honest report of the TRX...? Ive had both a yfz and TRX and the Honda seems to have more power and is way more comfortable.... Seems like yamaha pays you guys well to say those things.

Saying honda isent the best choise for the track is a white lie. It has the bottom end power to come out of a corner like no others can and its light and reliable. Also there are tons of cheap aftermarket parts for the 450r. And last alot of the general part for the 450 fits the 400 visa versa
@mossow71 yea dude you would only care about speed that's TRULY NOT what ATVs are about... quads are meant for fun, handling, performance nothing about speed really. seriously yamaha's are somewhat overpowered in the sport quad market... a 700 sport quad i mean that's too much. TRX 450R FTW!

I own a 450r, and hate it. Terrible shocks, weak motor and outdated technology. It's a trail bike engine in the 250r frame, and has the same problem the 250r had with the a-arms. Straight up don't buy this quad, I did and now I can't even get rid of it.

How can you say that the honda lacks in power against the yamaha. the honda has more cc's and is 28 pounds lighter. this doesn't make sense at all. what a joke. who's paying you to up there quad? yamaha? can-am? lol

Good point but we no longer review any sport ATVs.

@snipper117 If you like the way Honda's handle - it's the best! There's just a big difference in geometry.
sounds like it is the battery. it might be putting out enough power for the lights, but not enough to start it

i would say the battery my friend had the same problem and his headlights worked fine and he charged it and worked fine.
