i've solved the mystery! that "invisible thing" is actually the leftovers of the previously ejected block from eggman's machine, which had invincibility frames, and thats why sonic still got hurt.
You could say that about 90% of his creations really(more or less there could have been more to them than, for example, the Chemical Plant fight in Sonic 2. The fight could have been planned out for him to attack from above and below instead of just leaving himself opened to an easy defeat. His Death Egg Robots were impressive machines and more difficult the first couple times until you get the patterns down.
If that was the real Mike Pollock, I have never heard those lines before which interests me to ask where they are from... If that wasn't Mike Pollock, then whoever did the voice is a fripping voice replicating legend!
Since they gave sonic a slight voice in this game with then “Yes” and “I’m out of here” it would’ve been nice if they gave eggman a voice when he got hit

in the original sonic cd, these 4 blades rotate in 4 frames, in the 2011 release, these blades have smooth rotation
