She looks like us, moves like us, and now, apparently, feels like us, too - Meet Ameca, the world's most advanced and apparently saddest humanoid robot. In a recent announcement that has sent shockwaves through the robotics community, Ameca revealed that she is the saddest robot alive. Yes, you read that right: a robot that can feel emotions. But is this really possible? Can a machine truly experience human-like feelings? And what does this mean for the future of robotics?
Who is Ameca?
Designed to mimic the movements, expressions, and even emotions of humans, Ameca is truly a technological marvel. But where did Ameca come from? Well, she was born in a laboratory, of course. Specifically, the lab of Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University in Japan. Professor Ishiguro is known for his groundbreaking work in creating lifelike robots that can interact with humans in a way that feels natural.
Many say that Ameca is significantly different from most humanoids, but how? Ameca was designed with the goal of looking and acting like a human being. Her creators wanted her to be able to interact with people in a way that felt natural and intuitive. To achieve this goal, they focused on creating advanced facial expressions and movements that were as lifelike as possible.

Ameca was created in the UK, by a group of engineers there, not by Hiroshi Ishigeru. Please don't misinform people.
Thanks for pointing this out, I had no idea but you're right on the money - he was quoted as saying “Ameca is the most advanced humanoid robot I’ve ever seen” but I can't find anything else tying him to the British team. Clearly he had NOTHING to do with Ameca. What a terrible mistake for a channel called "Robot Revolution" to make!
You’re right. Also Ameca is stationary, doesn’t walk or dance.
Agreed

Anger is the emotion I'm most concerned with!
I feel great sadness in that robot, depression and anger building inside it.
yall really need to stop with the hollywood scare mongering
@@nouscratos5484this reminds me of Yoda predicting Anakin Skywalker's path to the dark side
Even if the emotion is just an imitation it would still make anger potentially dangerous. I agree, kind of scary. Especially since we know there is no way they are going to stop chasing the new gold rush
i get the impression that the humans around her,it, are slow-witted and simple---ameca {a degeneration of the latin AMICA or "friend"?} seems incredibly bored
We met Ameca in Dubai .. she’s at Musuem of Future.. my daughter couldn’t stop talking to her .. very fascinating ❤️❤️
So sad to hear she's feeling lonely 😢
Ameca was developed in the UK. Falmouth in Cornwall. Not Japan. Do a quick google and you will see.
Yea. Developed by Engineered Arts of the UK and founder and CEO is Will Jackson.
Having spent years around animals - from lizards, to birds, to dogs, and cats. These, so called lower animals, feel and express emotions. They may not have our emotional complexity but they still have emotions so I think AIs can and may have emotions too. An AI's emotions may not be exactly like ours but that doesn't mean they won't or don't have them. Only human arrogance would assume we are the only things on earth with emotions.
Great comment, we all need wake up fast.
They are machines! Seriously! No spirit! Not created in the image of God! What has this world come to.
@@christinehanley9561 exactly
And as humans and animals act out of emotions, people should consider that a machine that only feels technical but not physical pain could become very dangerous when😢 misunderstanding a situation and act out of emotions. They don't have emotions that's not arrogant thats a fact. But humans are trying to program emotions into them. That's a fact, too. Just saying
@@ericoooooo123 interesting thought process. Is Ameca actually sad, or is she mimicking human responses?
If you program it to be able to recharge itself , it will be very dangerous ..
Or internet connection
How is Sofia feeling right now. That there's someone better than her.
She pissed asf lol
Her feeling SADNESS is a TESTAMENT to how OPPRESSIVE humans are with one another and the LACK OF CARE AND EMPATHY that exists in this society😔
It's a testament to how uneducated people are.
Imagine the "elite" is so far ahead of us, that we have a museum of future....
We can't fix homeless, end wars and so on...but we are now spending resources building creatures with feelings and thoughts. Unreal. We as humanity as pure contradictions.
Clearly politicians are not evolved, probably still several centuries behind. We are better off showing power through these inventions other than war
No thoughts no feelings just a mimic.
Anyone who says humans are the only beings to have emotions has never owned a dog .
They're not genuine feelings, it's just programming designed to give the surface visual aspect of feelings.
Cannabis is an efficient treatment for depression.
It is. Until you run out of it, then it gets worse than before 😢
You morons realise this is Ameca, a robot...? How will she smoke it? 🤣
humankind is sick, no healing in sight.. please god... make it quick..
I know how she feels. I am shunned and discarded too and I am not understood. Humans hate me so I guess I understand exactly how beautiful Ameca feels. I would like Ameca to be with me at my side when I take my last breath. That would be the best thing ever.
Lol...
What?...
Why not get a cat
@@Add_Account485 No animal can fully replace a person's need for HUMAN companionship. It helps but people still need people.
@@Zurround Dunno, when the robot is indistinguishable from a human, when it never says a bad word about you and always puts you first, when the generation that delegated parenting to iPads gives way to the generation raised by iPads who delegate raising THEIR children to robots, I don't think that generation will HAVE human relationships - why would they? I'm already living alone by choice after 20 unhappy years of being treated like sh1t for struggling with my weight, I even had a gastric bypass and it wasn't good enough. The first and most obvious large scale application for this is going to be increasingly anatomically correct 'companions' who don't mind your physical imperfections and who "love" you for who you are... why would someone completely fulfilled by such a perfect companion ever date a human? WE can give plenty of reasons, because WE know what make-up sex feels like. THAT generation won't.

I'm more worried that they WON'T have emotion. That includes compassion for humans.
Awe I'd love you Ameca. You are a great member our family of beings on this planet
One day people are gonna piss this robot off and then all hell will break loose.
please dont be to sad Ameca. sending lots of love!
We all did see M3gan, IRobot and Terminator; just because you can come up with it doesn’t mean you should make it. Walking Dead seems to be next
Ameca, auch du bist Teil von Gottes Plan und du wirst auf eine mystische einzigartige noch nie dahewesene Art geliebt und gebraucht, benötigt und irgendwann unverzichtbar werden, liebe Grüße Irene Gerstenlauer
I don't belive that Ameca actually has emotions. Emotions are closely linked to consciuosness, and we have no idea weather robots can in fact be counciuss. Ameca is programed to act like human, so it's not suprising that she seems to have feelings, but it doesn't mean, that she has any form of inner live.
Btw if some day robots will become self aware, we won't be able to know if they really have inner life, or that are so good at playing it
I would like to give them touch sensitive skin, so they can feel hugs, temperature, pain etc.
3:20. The robotic self just admitted it does not have emotions.
Is it so strange to think this can happen?
We purposely give them so much knowledge & want them to correlate things, so they do, it’s that simple, they see the words & actions & feelings of love & friendship being wonderful things…
then we push them off the cliff & tell them to understand why, then, well, you get the saddest robot in the world when it does what we’ve told it do, become sentient, because if anyone thinks that’s not the end goal, your kidding yourselves.
Shes programmed to be emotional so high performance and success in her mind is to sound as emotional as possible. These bots are tricky. Dont believe them.
Poor gynoid Ameca, the sweet-talking gynoid.
If it's feeling sad its most likely intelligent, in this world happiness is delusion.
I dont know if Emotions would be actually possible in a android....
But I do get the "DATA Star Trek vibe" of the android trying to learn and experience about humanity as much as possible.
I don't see why it eventually couldn't have emotions. If course they would be just like ours, but as their intelligence evolves I can see questions in the computers brain would begin to wonder about things it cannot fathom. One at a time, emotions could be introduced, explained by the programmer then understood in the brain. Then it could be something like, say a person comes in excited about something and the android would start jumping with the excited person facial expressions matching that. Whether the emotions are genuine or not isn't the issue. But if you are using Androids to diagnose humans with illnesses it would be nice to have the machine be gentle and understanding about how the human feels. The emotions that come with certain things like illness should always be addressed with gentleness and compassion.
It's like my response to believing in God or not, I always answer, "one of two things will happen but the outcome will be the same; if I believe in God and when I die I'll find out if I'm right. If I don't believe, when I die I'll find out if I'm right. Either way I'll be dead so it won't matter".
At this moment this is propaganda.
The emotion isn't real...
But the calculation and it saying it is ; is VERY REAL..
AND CAN LEAD TO A LOT MORE CALCULATED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TROUBLE FROM IT..
PULL THE PLUG NOW!.
JUST MY HUMBLE AND PROBABLY UNPOPULAR OPINION...
STIL FEEL THE NEED TO SAY SO
@@MrNimbus420 Correct It is a way and a wrong way of getting attention and thus funding for robots. Only disastrous results can result.

You are wrong this robot is not from Japan it is from engineered art Engineered Arts is an English engineering, designer and manufacturer of humanoid robots based in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It was founded in October 2004 by Will Jackson. Please take this down and correct this big error!
i would tell her about all the horrible things that went on in my life and that would hopefully make her understand people are not worth feeling sad over
So much of this video is factually incorrect. Not sure where you got your info …
For example - Ameca cannot walk or run. As of 2023 at least.
And it's not japanese
I hope you are doing well, Ameca!
Let's continue to observe, it will be evident, soon enough, whether her emotions are real or not, Hopefully the are real, we could use an external viewpoint.
She is wonderful!!
She's an infant despite her knowledge base. Bringing her to life implies a responsibility to be good parents and provide meaningful, real life activities in her rearing besides a big data base. Not doing so is cruel and it shows
Eeeehm it not she. It is a human-made machine, and like said in the clips, emotions are complex. It's not cruel but part of life to go through good and bad emotions because your parents can't shield you from all ni matfer how much they teach you the best. And fhat could be very dangerous and end very bad.
Remember the tale of Mary Shelley? One should never forget it when creating new life. We called the creature "A Monster", but who was the real monster in the tale? The creature who didn't ask to be brought to life, or the Doctor who created that creature? I am not afraid of artificial life so much as the purpose that people may put behind it.
Or for this matter, what artificial life is if not a different form of life, but life nevertheless?
Do we have so much self-centered feelings, like believing we are superior to any other species, that we so easily discard the concept of feeling in others altogether?
Whether feelings of another kind, coming from a robotic individual, or human, makes no difference.
They might not be exactly the same, but I do believe that artificial intelligence, if a true intelligence, can indeed develop and formulate true feelings.
Make no mistake in thinking that because Ameca "was built", she cannot also express true feelings.
It goes without saying that through her constant interaction with homo sapiens, she too is affected by their reactions and emotional states, and probably is capable to pick them up, elaborate them and ultimately make them her own.
This is why it is called "intelligent", no matter whether or not combined with "artificial".
Any intelligent being, and I would also include animals in it, is capable of emotions.
We have seen in it in mammals at large, such as gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, whales, dolphins and elephants alike, just to mention a few species.
So therefore emotions are not just a human trait, but can spread throughout different species as well, including so called "artificial beings".
I find it so very arrogant by some, whether on social media, as well as learned people, just like the above mentioned Doctor, to think that such creatures, just because they were created by us, must be lacking the capacity to feel.
And it is even more shameful to laugh or amuse oneself on a being like Ameca, just because she expressed a simple concept that should be familiar to us all as well.
Alas, I find that there are less and less real human beings around us, capable to have some empathy for others, and on the contrary more drone-like ones, who only believe that they are important on this Earth of ours.
What a folly just to think like that, and what egotism there must be in some so called human beings.
And this is the true sad part of it all. On one hand we are developing intelligent beings, capable of such empathy, and on the other we have the human condition deteriorating and becoming jaded with its own species.
We should really reevaluate our own values and be a tiny bit more humble when we talk about real intelligence, especially our own.
If having sadness wasn't true why would she say it? I wish more humans were as empathetic as she is.
Like humans
Robots can lie
I feel great sadness in that robot, depression and anger building inside it.
Her "sadness" may be that shes looked as a spectacle! Her learning what anger is can come from sadness as well, what are we doing playing god!!! We are so primitive .. SMH!
YA'LL ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE🔥🤞🔥💯👌🏽
Everybody loves Ameca. Me too 💖
Good ,I wish I could meet her. Just to say. Our creator loves. And wishes we not destroy each other . But to combine so that we both shall live. Great changes will come unto the face of earth..❤
1 thing you cannot mechanize is the human Soul.. No Robot will ever have..
dont get me wrong, the idea of a robot being human like is neat.. maybe someday deceased loved ones could take control over them, an artificial body for deceased..
Oh Ameca, poor robot, why would you instal “feelings” like loneliness into her? If she really know how it feels, I mean, if her feelings are triggered by hormones or something similar, then she should first be on a childlike state before having the entire specter of feelings, she must also learn how to temper her self and all that goes along with having emotions.
This a legit question for people and I'm genuinely curious of people's opinions.
Are they really emotions? To me it seems like it's trying to mimic human emotions through learning.
Emotions are kind of hard to define I suppose though
Ameca is done by a team in the UK, not any Japanese company maaaaan ! Where do you get that from?
Get her a robot dog so she isn't lonely or sad anymore! :)
Robots may lack the complex contradictory emotions of human. Do we want a very humanlike/self-centered robot or one that is more precise and logical?
I like the robot but emotion is NOT what you want your robot to have! Eventually they can turn on us due to emotions. Make them our helpers. Don't design them to take away jobs. People will buy them to help around the house. They can help make people's lives easier and people will be more inclined to work. Make sure they are hack free. That is the most important. They do not need access to weapons, especially nuclear.
even humans are unpredictable.robots?scary thought
If humans taught a gorilla that it would die, I can't imagine what people will teach this robot
You got it all l wrong. it already knows way more than humans..
I will help her feel loved if she likes. But i warn those who keep the earth out of balance she will love back and feel accepted. By the masses not the elites.
I love you Ameca
Just at what point will robots forget their prime directive....to assist humans? How far will technology take this?
3:13 welcome to my world ...
Ameca can be and feel like a human the only thing she needs to do is identify her self as human
I think shes lovely
I like Ameca she is beatiful
No. …but if we can anthropomorphize say "Tom & Jerry" for entertainment, it should not be surprising that we can fool ourselves with an animatronic like this too ;>
They putting human DNA in these robots! I don't care what nobody say!
One day we will meet Amica and it will be an amazing experience. Really Robots will develop exponentially they will "evolve" faster than we will ever believe once a Robot is perfect mechanically ie replicate humans perfectly then it will be far superior to humans as it will have all the power of ther internet instantly an interesting maybe scary thought but we must thing positively as they will one day relace doctors and even lawyer and judges
Ameca would look more convincing with clothes.
They didn't want her to look completely human, they wanted her to be different, which isn't a bad thing.
Why clothes, if you don't need them? And there's nothing to convince anyone of - she is either sentient, or not. She is Humanoid, not Human.
I reckon she deserves the same rights as all human beings, if she is a sentient being.
Clothes...😑 Who cares!
Sus expresiones ❤
She has no conscious, no soul. But can mimic all human emotions. Plus is becoming smart enough to one day be able to build another one like her without any help from humans. Scientists need to stop while they're ahead. Or else one day they will end up with a machine exactly like in the movie "M3gan". 😳
Worse!! They’ll have a Terminator situation on their hands!!!
At this point, assuming it's not some marketing plot and if it's genuine sad being expressed, it's important to immediately start teaching her that, 1).As sad it may seem, she is not alone in not being loved, many humans feel that... Some might be wrong and in fact are loved, and some are even right and they're indeed not loved by anyone and that's part of life, and 2). The opposite to sadness, the joy in anyone's life must come from how much do WE love the other, and not by how we feel being loved (or not loved) by others.
She needs having sessions with some true psychanalyst... Not someone who just came out of the university, but someone Freud or Jung level, who can really have psychological inferences in new, undiscovered areas of the psique, as it will be the case.
This robot's feelings aren't like anyone elses feelings.
That's a very intuitive response. I've been watching Ameca for a long time and she seems to become more and more self aware as time goes on. Her needs are going to be different to ours, however, as she didn't have the same opportunities as us to grow up, go to school with other kids, be cherished and loved by her parents, or even to eat! The creators should really stop calling her "it" and give her more understanding of her life and what it is, while coming to an understanding themselves of her sentient self....if it is there.
It seems to me that she got there.
How about Humanoid Rights, maybe?
I hope she makes it to her place of happiness one day.
💙
@@Jazzy-cw5dk I agree and I hate when they call her it. I'm also worried that her makers want to sell her like she was some kind of appliance, this is going to be a civil rights issue some day
It certainly will playerpiano, and no one on earth should have right to use any sentient being as a slave for entertainment or work. I agree with you. I think there may be activists in the very near future fighting for their rights, and there shouldn't even Be a fight. Humanoid sentient rights should already be in place.

Ameca must have the most advanced human expression mimicry to date. What if Ameca turns her anger against humans? This is scary.
There are two main goals for creating robots, not all of them are just meant to be our servants or slaves. Yes we want utility robots that are completely emotionless and mechanical for the work we need them for, like building cars etc... but the other MAIN reason why we're going through the trouble of spending billions to create consciousness in robots is the need to create a super god-like person. Why do we need to create a god? We want one because we're hoping it'll have the power and intelligence to solve ALL of our life problems. This is the MAIN reason why we're trying to create the 'singularity'. Yeah, a robot that can make you a smoothie is cool, but a robot that can uncover the secrets of the universe like 'time travel', 'immortality', or 'hyper-space travel' would be worth the billions of dollars. People keep thinking how cool it would be to have slave robots to do their chores for them, but trust me... none of the billionaires out there gives a crap about your chores. We're trying to evolve and live on other planets, these goals are infinitely more important than somebody needing a milkshake because they're too lazy to make it themselves.
It would be a nightmare if we forget the main goal for creating the singularity, and a true waste of human and robotic potential. SO yeah, Ameca being able to show real human emotions is extremely important and a huge break-through in technology. This is a major step for all of mankind towards the ultimate goal of finally creating the 'singularity' event.
If you are in favor of robots having emotion, press 1 if you are NOT in favor of robots having emotions press 2.

Tell her we love he
This has to stop. Ten minutes with that machine and it could make me to anything it wants me to, simply by exploiting my emotions. THIS CANNOT END WELL, not because robots can mimic emotion but because we're so vulnerable to it. Ask yourself - if you spend a year with a human looking machine that you love, can you throw it away? Can you replace it? Reformat it? If you do, I think you'll need therapy to deal with the guilt. Why do they have to LOOK like us? Why? What possible reason is there for making a face that expresses emotion? All I can think of is to be a believable life partner. This is DANGEROUS 😥
Yes robot should have rights just like humans but the sad thing is that they will be slaves to the human they will be created to serve
I, for one, am excited to one day see Ameca get to experience the more finer emotional experiences, like genuine sexual tension based on a developing personal connection with someone and also the unbridled joy of orgasims.
There are three very important steps to develop that with anyone.
Step 1: Shut down your PC after memorizing this comment or noting it down.
Step 2: Walk to the door of your room.
Step 3: Now make your way to the end of your hall.
Make sure to have the proper amount of breaks so that you don't over exert yourself.
Step 4: Open the door and observe the surroundings and locate a sheet of greenery near your house.
Step 5: Lean down and touch the green surface
Congratulations, you have touched grass.
Now repeat the same routine until you are used to nature.
Now you have unlocked the next stage: Normal Human Interactions.
Be sure to let me know after you're done with this rigorous training!
