This video was taken before it would get a 14-month refurbishment that included an entire replacement of new track (similar to the Space Mountain refurbishment) by Dynamic Attractions, new trains, new scenery, and new effects. It reopened on March 17, 2014.

I love rides like these. Rides where you still have fun, but isn't too extreme.
As a person who is afraid of roller coasters is this a tame ride?
The ride is SO much better now than it was! Now it's really REALLY smooth, there's some things that have been refurbished/slightly altered, and there's one really big awesome thing added at the end....I won't spoil it, but I can't wait until it's back open!

Yes... my dad lost his job a year ago. Idk wht but he got it back and we haven't been getting enough money to go to disney land I love that place and I want to go on this ride again and see what they added

I went on this for the first time on friday. It is by far my favorite ride at disneyland, challenging splash mountain.
How can you not like this ride.It has everything. Speed, scenery and even the best yet it's a roller coaster.

Thanks for the memories... I don't remember too much from my trip to Disneyland, being age 9 at the time, and I suppose the rides have been tweaked and improved and even rebuilt over the years, but I remember riding this one back in 1963. It's hard to believe I'm that old! 8-D
I love this ride and scenery!!! Complete immersion in the Far West. In Disneyland Paris there is a complete story about Frontierland ( Big thunder' s mine + Phantom Manor). At Disneyland Paris in the last part of this ride there is a brutal acceleration in the dark. (more intensity for the conclusion).
This was my first roller coaster that I ever went on it holds a very special place in my heart
This ride is so much better in the back... But great pov! Even tho I've been on that ride more than I've been in my own house, I still watch. DL is my 2nd home

This ride is so underrated, I remember this was one of the only roller coasters that my mother went with me on!

I remember when i went here back in 2009, i was SOOOOO HIGH on this ride and almost died laughing at the anamontronic goat!
I went on this ride more than once with my parents until my mom got diagnosed with vertigo. So sad that Disneyland and all of the other theme parks are closed during an outbreak in Spring-Winter 2020. 😭👍🏻 if you're watching this ride video in quarantine even though COVID-19 sucks. 💙😢

When I was at Disneyland a few weeks ago we rode this at least six times in one day. :) It is SO much more fun at night!!

I miss this ride. The refurbishment fells like it is taking forever. Without Big Thunder Mountain running, Frontierland just looks empty (yes, I know that they still have the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Rafts to Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island, but it is just not the same without Big Thunder Mountain).
The wait was 45min but it took 2 hours for me. Its so worth it

sitting in the back is soo much better, because you dont have that brief pause when going down the tracks like you do in the front
I went on this ride yesterday. We got a free fast pass becasue Splash Mountain broke down on us! It was AWESOME!
Read the comments, they're not redoing the whole ride, they are merely fixing it up. New trains (identical to the old ones), new track (but nothing affecting the layout of the ride) and repainting the mountain. It's actually for the better
The part that always gets me is the small dip in the middle of the whole ride -__-
the front seats go down the hill too slow until all the weight kicks in.
all the fun of this ride is in the back because you feel all the sharp turns and drops more. esp when you turn your body to the goat, you feel the whiplash!

this was my most favorite ride at Disneyland.
I can tell a better story. I was there 2 months ago on a school field trip. I went on Splash Mountain, and it broke down, and we were about to go down the big drop. One of the employees got us out of there, and they took us outside the park, and we got a free fast pass! But, it was only for 1 ride only. So, we went on the Indiana Jones ride because the wait for the regular ride was long. It gets better, later, we decided to just wait in the long line for Splash Mountain, and it was worth it. :)
The last time I been on Thunder Mountain was when I was 9 years old in 1979!

Disney worlds is better for the following reasons: it has a much bigger landscape, it has much better theming, the track is two times longer, and its queue is very well themed and interactive. No just because Disneyland has a better final lift scene doesn't make the Disneyland ride better, we will probably be getting it in the future.
all refurbs are posted on the DIsneyland Park site FYI...sometimes rides close down just for small maintenance, too...
Just for people who don`t know what he`s talking about, it is the ride in 2003 when the engine detached from the rails, when airborn, and landed on the front cart, instantly killing someone IN the front cart.

I went on this ride like 10 times about 14 years ago. It wasn't fast or scary but the atmosphere was amazing.
They are just changing the ride carts( it will be same design of old ones), adding down new tracks (same route as old one as well) and repainting stuff as well)

It's a bit more intense than the Matterhorn..It's a little faster. But trust me, if you like the Matterhorn, you'll love this. It's definitely one of my favorite rides there :D

I stuck my tongue out at people when I was in the fastpass lane - never again. This really buff looking dude looked like he wanted to snap my neck. Hehe, most magical place xD I had fun on the ride though :D

This ride is AMAZING if u know how to ride it :) sit in the back, on the left side of the seat, watch the goat all the way around, an stay there for the 2nd spinny part and it's very fun, my bro and I LOVE IT!
This ride was freakin frightning for me. On Sept 27, 2001. For my 15tn birthday I went with my family to Walt Disney World. Went on this ride with my dad. I will never do that again!!! he is much bigger than me and I was hanging on for dear life since the lap bar was at my stomach. I love rollercoasters, but since I was clinging to the lap bar I didn't get to enjoy it. Next time I won't ride with him. LOL
