Wilton Vise Perfect Restortation

- In this video I restore a 3 inch Wilton bullet 930 machinist vise made in 1946. The original bullet was designed in 1941. They range from sizes of 2 inches up to 8 inches.
I start with disassembly and use electrolysis to remove most of the rust, after electrolysis I move on to sandblasting all the large parts.
Once all the parts were cleaned up I turned my attention to the defects. I welded up the dents and missing letters. Cast iron is difficult to weld. After welding I had to file and sand down the parts.
I wanted to use a durable finish since this vise will get used. I chose a wrinkle black powder coat and I think it turned out great! The small parts were polished and then nickel plated for protection.

Who knew that a vise could be beautiful? This one belongs in a museum!
Yeah, like the Smithsonian Museum or something. 😂
Awesome restoration. Very happy to see the welding of damage instead of bondo. I'm pretty sure Wilton did not have a stocking order for Bondo back then.... Good to see a total lack of short cuts!!
This came out better than factory finish !!
I have my father's Wilton bench vise. It's from the early 50s. Your restoration is awesome.
That’s awesome Katie!
Can I send you my vise?
My Mechanics, Cool Again Restorations and this guy are all the same guy. I am sure of it!
REAl SICK VISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful restoration!! 👍
1:10 I wouldn't find this pin... 😅
Fantastic work man.
That vise will never be used again! Not for a long time, anyway. What a beauty.
Very nice work Dock... Ready for another decade or two.. I don't think I've ever seen anyone powder coat a vise before, came out beautiful... I especially like the wrinkle finish.. Take care my friend...
I love how you filled in the couple of hammer blows with weld. I thought don't, because it adds character, but im glad you did. Now you can put your own mark on it! I'm glad you came up on my feed, and i had to subscribe.
That came out better than new. And it's nice to see someone putting the right amount of grease in it.
Amazing job!
beautiful restoration. And I appreciate the details like adding the missing letters!!!
That’s very next level
Thanks Big Pete!
Cool friend 😊
I'm not a big fan of black on certain items. But that looks pretty sharp! Never heard of that color.
Outstanding! I would use it to remember that part of the era where men worked hard for the things they had.
OME!!!! You actually did the dab method on the raised letters. Drives me crazy that every one else does paint brushe
That now is a work of art and even if it’s never used for it’s purpose it’ll look good on a shelf as an ornament
Thanks for sharing
Love and Peace from Ireland
Thanks Sid! I’m afraid to use it now 😂
BETTER THAN NEW!!!
We all have our vices, but yours is sight to behold.
Excellent work. Loved the restoration.
Too nice to use !!
This is the art of perfection Dr

Very nice job ❤✌️💪
Thank you 💙
Great video! The restoration of the vise is impressive and satisfying to watch. You did an excellent job of bringing the old and rusty vise back to life. The attention to detail and the careful approach you took during the restoration process is admirable. It's amazing to see how a little bit of cleaning, sanding, and painting can transform an old tool into a functional and beautiful piece again. Thank you for sharing this restoration project with us, it was both educational and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the kind words! 🙂
Awesome restoration
Thank you!

So nice it should be in the kitchen!!!!
Maybe that’s where I’ll put it 😂
I never tire of watching your videos.
That means a lot, thank you!
love the black wrinkle finish
Very nice. I enjoyed the restoration.
Thank you Frank!
Отличная реставрация!
Привет из Беларуси! 🇧🇾
Thank you, greetings!
I know these channels are about what *can* be done and not necessarily about what *should* be done, but I would have wirebrushed the bare metal parts and given it some grease - done. Maybe smooth jaws.
I’m happy about the successful screw extraction, that was good news.
I'm just glad none of the parts were buffed to a high bright finish like other channels do. The cast imperfections make this vise the only one exactly like it. I would have left them.
Whatever keeps us moving and grooving, keep on turning those wrenches! 😊
To be fair, black is a good, natural choice for the colour and deserves an extra point. Unfortunately we need to take 100 points away for tracing the letters 😭🙂

I might be a bit biased being a Chicago native but Bullet vices are just 🤌🤌
That subtle wrinkle paint turned out sooo clean. Never would've thought to do it like that myself!
Thank you friend 😊
I want this! Awesome restoration
Absolute pleasure watching your videos!
God job bossd👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice restoration! You are close on the date but old Wiltons had a 5-year warranty and they would stamp the date on the key of when the warranty expired so that would mean yours was made in 1941.
Nice job looks better than the one i got lol
Man!! You do nice work. Enjoyed this one. I subbed you.

Put some SAE flat washers under the acorn nuts and they won’t tear the paint every time you move them.
