when i was driving, all truck stops were fuel stops, but at the time TA wasn't that great, only good cause their lots were big. i stopped at the Flying J cause they had spare ribs in their deli. Pilot was a fuel stop, and parking, wasn't much on food, but for me, the best truck stop was the Petro, large parking areas, food wasn't just the restaurant, the one in Rochelle had this deli that served large meals, that i always took as take out. the one in Atlanta had "Idle Air" and i always had plenty of time on my card. one time i had to spend the weekend at that Petro, as i unloaded early Friday, but my next pickup wasn't till Monday. Jackson, Georgia has some good truck stops too.
pretty informational. my dads a trucker he prefers loves. i just bought a 43 foot toy hauler to live out of while im welding on the road. its not always conveniant to shower in the rv seeing as you dont always travel with water. super informstional video thank you
Love's does the same with cards. And I was told by Pilot/ Flying J corporate when I had an issue over not getting a soda credit. 7 years ago to go to another truck stop. Because they've said quote we are too big you have to use us end quote. Guess what I have fueled at 1 pilot in the last 7 years and that was in Montana before ta open their first one in Missoula Montana. They chose to lose my business over the price of one soda pop. And I did it just to prove that you can fuel at other places because the woman told me I had the fuel at a Pilot or Flying J. Because I was a company driver at the time. For almost a year-and-a-half I was able to plan my trip so that I did not have to stop at a Pilot or a Flying J for fuel. Simply by using the hand full of Love's, TA's, Terminals, and Petro's in our fuel books. I was able to steer clear of pilots and Flying J. I called them a year into my little protest and asked for the customer service rep by name, Lawanda (and now I do not remember her last name). And gave her my shower card and fuel card number. And then ask her when the last time either one was used at a Pilot or Flying J. She said it was over a year ago how did you do this you drive for Con-way truckload. I said "you told me to go to another truck shop so that's exactly what I did and so next time you tell someone to go to another truck stop over a dollar soda maybe you'll think of me". I went on to say, "so you really aren't so big after all". Then I bought a truck which made it even easier to steer clear of them. Especially after I leased it on with a company that gives discounts at TA and Petro.
@jbg travels please use this camera angle on all of your videos. It looks really cool and it gives us non truck drivers a better sense of how it's like to drive a big rig.
honestly id rather love's over pilot of flying j, even TA. only reason i use them is because its the most convenient one i can fuel up daily without wasting time and not going out of my way.
In my day it was Union 76 , Truck Stops of America , (driver's called it TA so much they changed it to TA) and Petro in El Paso showers were free. My how times have changed in trucking.
Here in the UK the truckstops have the loo's lined up and showers to there you don't get a small bathroom all to your self that's great but then it's just like the room in say a Scania sleeper to me they are to small unlike the Bult sleepers give me one any day...
I would never want to go through all that electronic stuff. One would think it would be as easy as show your fuel receipt for some kind of discount, or something when you pay your meal bill, but that would be old school, I guess.
I don't see why truckers don't bring a big cooler in there truck and fill it with sandwiches from home and drinks and fill the cooler with ice you save money rather than spending money at gas stations you probably spend a good $30-60 on food a day when you can buy a loaf a bread from Walmart with peanut butter and only spend $10 which would last like a good 4 days
I think its fair to say the meal is indeed free for you, considering that it is your boss who is paying for the fuel and any other services Blue requires, and it is of course you who is redeeming the accompanying accumulated points, and not your boss...
PFJ is the only company that gives us expediters points and showers for gasoline purchases. As long as we use the professional driver card we get points. TA/Petro/Loves no longer do that for us.
Damn, engine brakes are there for a reason. Brakes are expensive. You seem to go into neutral and hit the brakes. One of these times you are going to have a tire fire. Learn to use your engine brakes.
Gees, where did you go to truck school. Only super truckers use engine brakes on flat ground which is what he was doing. Engine brakes are intended to save your brake during mountain driving which he was not doing. I worked for a company once long ago that didn’t allow us to use the engine brake on flat ground because “it is cheaper for us to replace brake pads than transmissions” which they were right. I imagine you’re the kind of guy that will hit the Jake brake, while in a turn, pulling a tanker right? 🤣. I have 22 years experience, a former instructor and former DMV commercial examiner.
@@waylonhall8020 trick is to be at your safe speed before the turn. Yeah I do haul a tanker. And no, your transmission isn't hurt slowing down any more than it is speeding up. Must have been a half rate instructor. Definitely don't know your mechanical side of things.
Josh Sedgwick Not so bright are you ? Has nothing to do with speeding up and slowing down. It has to do with the extra shifting, which unfortunately, a lot of idiots are not good at. @@waylonhall8020 well you may have trouble shifting, I however do not. Btw, you have to shift to speed up as well, that must be hard on the transmission as well. I was OTR reefer long before I went oilfield tanker making 150,000 a year. After talking to you, it's obvious why you aren't an instructor any longer, if you ever even were.
Of all the truck stops I have been to, Flying J, Pilot, has some good, clean truck stops. Ta and Petro are ok. Sapp Bros in Peru, Ill, I just see it as Good truck stops will bring the truckers back.
I'm trying to guess the accent . I'm guessing French Canadian ......... you sound like a hockey coach ...... that's a good thing by the way . Be safe . I enjoy your vids.
I guess I am just anti-social, I hate it when people walk up to me just to start a conversation. I see a driver walking my way, and I am thinking, Dude, Keep walking.
maybe a stupid ??? i see on many trucking videos that there are trucks parked right after they fuel and effectively blocking the lane, are they getting stuff inside the truck stop and if you happen to be in that lane then oh well your stuck till they move? or are they just updating logs etc and usually finished before the next driver done fueling?
if you take the spot after fueling(and the room is provided for that purpose) then you should only use that spot for 15 mnts , enough for somebody to fuel and go inside. or you can keep an eye on person behind if they are ready to go.
jeff m once a driver has finished fueling they pull forward enough so that the truck behind them can fuel. While the other trucker is fueling the driver that pulled forward tends to go inside to grab a drink/cup of coffee and/or a quick grab-and-go meal. The good drivers are usually back in their truck and moving before the truck behind them is finished fueling.
I took a shower at Pilot in Latta SC and was blown away by the big suites they offer ,very clean all tile ,hot water ,big fluffy fresh towels and cloths ,toilet and sink in the private suite for $12 I was totally impressed ,flying J always seems outdated and dirty but that's been my experience
Lets watch UA-cam refrigerated trailers require the same diesel as the truck to keep the contents meats, cheeses, ice cream, anything perishable (can rot/ needs to be at certain temperature at all times) from going bad on the trip from vendor/shipper to the recipient.

Actually, the newer T/A's have fantastic Shower "Suites"
that steering wheel not being straight would drive me crazy! lol
Wow! You came off that ramp HOT! It would be quicker to use the card reader on the pump

Love's gives you four points to a gallon of diesel. So if you fuel 200 gallons you'll get $8.00 bucks

I think the public showers is the main reason why I never considered trucking for a living :)
seems a lot easier to fuel without that app. Just do at pump
idk why but I love watching truck videos
Well that works out for the both of us, I love posting it

I Miss the Williams Truck Stops. They sold to Pilot Years Ago.
The loves has the best point system you will see out here on the road hands down
John, the next time, your in Kmart, don't forget Ivory soap. I've been using that soap, since , far back, I van remember !!
You should have done this before you got there instead of blocking the fuel island
i have learned my lesson

That's one way to look at it
don't you worry about the nozzle falling out when filling 2 tanks at once

Flying J is awesome
JDS Lawncare & Landscape Flying J is owned by thieving bastards. Don’t go there if you can help it.
