If you are okay with reacting to longer videos. Christian has a few interviews he has done. For instants he did an interview with Zac sang and he goes in a bit how he started and his story that he’s created within his universe with his alters. And he also talks a bit about his disorder. I think at that time he only came out that he had bipolar disorder and it’s type one he has. But DID used to be called multiple personality disorder. He has other personalities living within himself. Which is Mito which you pronounce it as mite-o and also Mr insanity. So that one is a bit longer I think around an hour mark. But extremely informative.

@jessicaglass he actually talked about his DID on an interview with Say What Reacts cause yea on the Zach Sang interview he was only open abiut his Bipolar at that point. The zach sang interview is good to watch tho more for background info on him

Dpr Ian aka Christian Yu is a Korean-Australian singer, musician, editor, director etc
He is an incredible artist who makes all of his music and music videos! He edits them all!❤ he’s really one of a kind.
Ian has Bipolar and DID (dissociative identity disorder). His music and videos explore those subjects, they also include his “alters”. “Alters” are basically other personalities that live in one person (they have different memories, attitudes, habits, tones etc). Ian blacks out when he switches and has no control over when it happens.
The alters he has shown and involved in his work so far are:
MITO
He takes over during Ian’s manic lows. He is destructive but also Ian’s protector. He holds Ian’s trauma and keeps it all locked away.
In music videos he can be seen wearing dark clothes, an eye ring on his finger, he has one white eye, and his voice is made very deep.
Mito recorded the song Skins and also shot the mv. Ian has no memory making it but posted it. It’s very raw❤
MR INSANITY
he takes over during Ian’s manic highs. He is very chaotic and lacks care for his own safety. Mito hates him bc of those things.
He can be seen in music videos with blonde hair, clown-like makeup, fireflies surrounding him, his eyes sometimes flash pink and green.
THE HYBRID
it is a combination of the worst parts of Mito and Mr Insanity. Ian has called it an “abomination” and “entity”.
The hybrid does have a name but Ian has said on his live that only about 6 people in his life know it. He might share the name soon as his upcoming album is mainly focused on The Hybrid.
It’s appearance in music videos is a mix of Mito and Mr Insanity. Basically the Limbo mv look.

Ian also has D.I.D on top of his bipolar disorder. Mito, his low depressive state, can also count as his alter since he doesn't remember much whenever mito takes over and bascially acts like a separate identity
I have to do some research on that, as I am not familiar with that. But thanks for telling me 🙏🏻 I’m very interested in him as an artist and creator! And his story is truly unique 🫶🏻

Basically,
Ian has both DID and Bipolar 1. But he only opened up about his DID last year.
Mito isn't his depressive state (there is a mix up between manic low and depression). Ian used to refer to him as a manic low because he always comes after another alter called Mr. Insanity (an alter that takes over during manic episodes).
Mito is what we call a protector alter and Ian calls him a guardian. That's because Mito is the one who takes the traumatic memories and protect other alters from danger and said memories. That's because DID is caused by repeated and/or severe trauma in early childhood. The only way a child's brain finds to cope is to dissociate. So the consciousness is split into multiple alters with their own personality, role and memory to cope with trauma.
Therefore what you see in MVs and DPR Ian's artistry in general is a direct representation of his trauma and his life with both disorders. Mito and Mr. Insanity aren't just characters, they are real and have a mind of their own. In the storyline (keep in mind that the storyline is also his reality), Mito and Mr Insanity are very opposed to each other. Mr Insanity wants to unlock the doors to access memories and other parts of the world called The Other Side. But Mito is trying to stop him because these doors hide traumatic memories that Insanity or Ian aren't ready to face and parts that could endanger them.
What you see on screen is not acting. You're genuinely seeing Mito and Insanity on screen. Ian has said previously that he can't act. He only really acted in the Scaredy Cat MV because Mito wouldn't come out and also a bit more through the Dear Insanity era.
