      I had a '99 GTP for my first car when I was 16 and sold it when I was 25 or so. It was a torque monster... I never did the pulley on it because I was worried about breaking something bigger on it. With a pulley you can expect about 320 ft-lbs. People rarely change the supercharger oil, so I'd highly recommend you doing so. The oil is a special oil, so buy the right kind.

    10:00 Scoring inside the case. Yuk. It will only mean a mild boost leak. If it concerns you, scrub those clean with Soap and Water, brake fluid then acetone and naptha. Use overkill to get down in the grooves and remove every bid of oil. Use a toothbrush and clean lint free rags. Let it dry real good. Then with a Razor Blade or the edge of a credit card, scrape regular JB Weld into those grooves, and only in the grooves. Let it dry a few days before assembly. Sand High spots with 400 grit sandpaper.
    Nitromethane funny cars and dragsters use this method on their superchargers, it works. The JB weld stays in place. I've used it to fix a Weiand 144 and thousands of miles later, the scoring is still fixed.

    • @Brodorsport

      It looks alot worse on camera then it actually is due to poor lighting ect. I have heard of people using that technique to fix housings before though. Its good to know that people have success repairing them.

    • @chehystpewpur4754
      @chehystpewpur4754 9 місяців тому

      sadly i dont even think thats scoring. its probably just the manufacturing tooling marks just like on the sealing surfaces.
      i was looking at those like man i bet you smoothed it out some it would have alot cleaner flow. but removing material will also lower boost. but increase flow potentially. and lower charge temps.
      filling and smoothing it out would be the same as 2 stroke case porting and stuffing so its pry the best way to go.

    • @N-Lee
      @N-Lee 9 місяців тому

      @@chehystpewpur4754 If you've ever taken one or more apart, yu would know that is scoring. Even the maker of this video says it is.

    People like you that do videos on the superchargers and turbos are really awesome these days because of you know the fluctuating of gas prices and stuff and the over marketing of electric vehicle.. general electric vehicles like diesel trains for instance are very efficient in generating the power right then and there and delivering it mechanically and efficiently no matter what the fuel type is.. I'm just almost thirty and already feel really because times are changing very fast.. and the information age is or rather has turned into dis information age.. ten years or more of my life is what it costs to have the education for electrical engineering and that has nothing to do with automotive.. or my time to even do that

    one of my first jobs at a repair shop was finishing the job on one of the 3800 supercharged cars. the boss couldnt stomach the smell of the oil or figure out how to put it back together because it had been a while and the only one hed seen.
    i laughed having done a few gasket jobs on them but never smelling the oil.
    i opened it and was like yeah thats bad but gear lube is my least fav but this is up there with it.
    end of the day i had it back together cleaned and serviced and running pretty quick and he realized he got a great mechanic. he didnt wanna pay better after a few years so i planned my leaving and got my chance. his shop went under some time after that.
    but im glad you pointed out the smell. some people literally cant stomach it. and is the worst part of messing with these.

    Great vid, mate. Been trying to make up my mind whether to put a supercharger in the commodore since the v6 packed it in? Are they high maintenance? And what do you have to watch out for if buying one?

    • @Brodorsport
      @Brodorsport  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, in my opinion they are relatively low maintenance. I would just ensure it spins freely with no rubbing or strange noises coming from the rotors, that aswell as the rotors dont have visual damage to them or excess teflon peeling. It may be worth inspecting the coupling and replacing if it feels like it has excessive slop when spinning it by hand. I hope this helps.

      i'm going to be putting an eaton supercharger from bullet cars. they sell a complete kit for about 4500 dollars us. if you really want to get good power out of it though, you'd be best served porting the heads and putting in new valves/ new gaskets for everything and i'm still considering a piston upgrade as well. it will probably run you around 5 to 7 k to get everything figured out with a tune( optional) and idle control solenoid plus miscellaneous stuff.

    What size pulley wheel is that?
    I've heard the m90 can run pretty hot with a smaller pulley.

    Want to get the most out of it without flogging either then engine or the charger

    • @Brodorsport
      @Brodorsport  3 роки тому

      2.45”, it does get high intake temps with heavy acceleration. I would recommend a 2.9 or 2.8” pulley for a safer result. Or possibly run a intercooler setup to drop the temps. My haltech ecu is able to pull ignition timing with high temps on a correction map is how I manage with it atm.

    comment 26 showing: If u r bolting 1 face onto another face, they need to work in a small change. The amount of metal under 1 screw tab & the next tab rounding the mating plate should vary, so small tab med tab small tab med tab. U will get better seal vibrational hold & the screws hve diff length easy on 1s & deeper 1s, making taking off & going back on less likely to b screwed by bad screws.

      Its definitely possible. You would have to fabricate your own manifold to fit it or find a company that already makes one if possible.
