Just a quick reminder - Flying any drone using litchi with no obstacle avoidance is no different to using Quickshots on the DJI Fly app - Take note of your surroundings - fly carefully just as you would using quickshots and the risk is exactly the same 😀
I think it works great. I have to say drone's with obstacle avoidance still crash as well lol this is all about how you fly etc, I would be comfortable using this app. Good Job Gavin 👍
They do indeed, DC rainmaker is a prime example, he tested the Mavic 3 which has full avoidance and it crashed, air 2s has no side sensors and can crash not to mention the next DJI mini will likely have avoidance sensors but not full so again same scenario.
Another reason I like Litchi is the ability to create a straight line waypoint mission and setting the heading mode in setups to user defined, and the gimbal pitch mode to disabled. Using this technique, you can fly a line path and pretty much accomplish a course lock, which for the life of me I've always wondered why this is not available on the DJI Fly app. Being able to not worry about the right stick to maintain speed and just focus on heading and gimbal pitch is a great thing.
That was like TapFly in GO4 right? Where you would click on the screen and then the drone would just head in that direction indefinitely, allowing you to gimble and rotate the drone as you wanted. I also cannot understand why DJI have not included that in the Fly app.
The Dynamic Home Point sold me! Very useful! Something ive noticed with my Air 2S is when it disconnects the drone turns about 15-20 degrees before raising to RTH altitude. I think it depends on which direction Home is because sometimes it turns further. I assume this is a safety feature for the sensors to check the area in the direction of Home. You guys noticed that?
A really well explained guide to Litchi - I bought it on the strength of this and like it a lot. Perhaps it's worth pointing out to viewers that running a battery down to less than 15% before landing is somewhat risky flying!
I like to be near home around 24%, and then use landing approach to burn battery and capture anything cinematic around the launch point. I got spooked in the desert though, because I kept pushing the limit and wanting to see a little more. RTH is a lifesaver.
I went up to 5,372 meters away with my mini 2 se and returned fine with almost 0%. The only problem they say is that running all power fron the battery it may decrease lifetime faster or even kill it
Really really informative tutorial. Thank you. I have just bought the mini 2 as my Hubsan Zino is now limited in where you can fly. Follow me and active track were features on the Zino, despite no obstacle collision and I never had any problems because I always kept the drone at a height that it couldn't crash into things. Mini 2 arrives today with the fly more combo. Can't wait to try it out and I will give the Litchi App a go. Would probably only use it to follow transmitter though
Great series on Litchi software. I would also say that Litchi is a pleasure to work with. Any time I've had questions for their support organization they've been very responsive and super helpful. Imagine that. And if you ask them about future plans they will generally give you an honest straightforward answer..."yes we plan to" or "no we don't have any plans to..." rather than a robotic "we have no information about that at this time" crap you get from another TLA company.
They have been brilliant throughout this process and always been happy to help and give me their plans and timeframes, glad you've enjoyed the series - last one I will cover waypoints and that should wrap up the series ! Hope you have had a good start to the year 🙂

Great information in this video. I have been using Litchi since 2016, and have had no problems what so ever. I mostly use the DJI app when flying FPV mode, but use Litchi for orbit and waypoints. It's a well tested and established alternative to the DJI Fly app. I like the feature of auto zooming the map, since it's a pain to have to take your hands off the sticks to pinch on the DJI map. Thanks for making a Litchi tutorial.. it's well done.
given the issues I'm having, with the DJI fly app not working since my phone upgraded to Android 12, does litchi allow me to check that I have the latest firmware on my drone and allow me to download any firmware updates to the drone ?

I used to have a Phamtom 3 pro years ago, now I’m having a Mavic Mini 2, i remember was recommended not to have both app DJI and Litchi in the same device. Can we do that now?
I noticed two things in particular during the tracking test. If you watch closely and even slow the video down, you'll see , the drone makes the exact movements the car does at geo locations. (as opposed to the Follow feature functionality) Also, the 2 moments the software Is cried none optimal conditions, The car was passing a square shaped object (the signs) And being as how we have the perspective of the drone you can see. I just got the Mini 2 SE. One thing you didn't show is that goggle icon. Can I fly my Mini 2 SE using my phone inserted into a set of VR goggles? Will the Litchi app split the viewing screen? If so that'd be great and would make me a buyer.
Hi, Nice video, my question : What happens, if I set Dynamic homepoint , I drive the car or bike the drone is followingme and the drone losts it´s signal ? Where will it return to home ? ( If I´m still driving car or bike and I move meters or hundred meters away from place, where was the signal lost until I notice it, or where I can safely stop. )
How can it make an RTH to the controller when the connection is lost ? Obviously the drone can't know where the controller is. Or may be it goes to the last known position of the controller ?
VR mode disables FPV mode??? In other words... VR mode forces gimbal stabilization, the view remains in line with the horizon, you cannot visualize tilting left and right. That's not what I had in mind! Hopefully I'm missing something.
I just got a mini2 as my first 'real' drone after stealing my son's toy drone a few too many times. However, I can't get the DJI Fly App to work with my Android phone (and I tried your other video) no matter what. I was thinking I'd just return the drone (to Costco), but, having found this, would litchi be a good alternative to the DJI Fly App for a beginner...anything I should be aware of or is missing (besides quickshots) if I go with Litchi instead? Or should I just return the Mini 2 while it is in the return window for Costco?
I had issues downloadi g as well, I did finally get it on my newest phone, I do like the drone, I would download the app and try it, if you don't care for it then return it
Android must... absolutely must be 64 bit operating system 32 bit will not work. Not the drone its your phone. There's apps to check your phone specs, download one and check it before you send the drone back because of a non capable device. Happy flying
Thanks. Like you I flew for about a year with my original Mini and then bought a Mini2 but with the delay in DJI releasing the sdk I have more or less forgotten the Litchi App features. Now that I can use Litchi again your video was the best explained of the several I watched to remind me of them.

So I have a Google pixel 6, which if Im understanding properly is incompatible with the dji fly app. If I were to purchase a dji mini se, would this app function with my phone?
I can not see any real difference between dji Go 4 and Litchi. Can Litchi be used for programming flying path on desktop Pc ? I meant for terrain mapping ?
Thanks. That was a great video. I like Litchi, I've had this app for years............. Problem is, I sell my older drones for a newer one every year. So I haven't been able to use the Litchi app very much. This year (2023), I decided to buy a Mini 2 just so that I can use the Litchi app.
Does the Litchi app allow you to turn off or at least turn down the constant controller beeping if you use the RTH function! I would buy it just for that!
Hi, is it possible to save a location, altitude and pitch so each time i make a flight i can position the drone in that exact or almost exact position, altitude and pitch?
I have had my Mavic 2 zoom for over 3 years now. I have been using the DJI Go 4 app. My question with the Litchi app does it save the flight on the tablet and the drone as the Go 4 app? Does it report flight data to DJI or anyone else as does DJI does? Where can I find more about the Litchi app and what it can and cannot do. How much is the Litchi app cost? Which is the latest version of the software?
Using Litchi with mini Se and Iphone. Finding status bar is upside down, unlike DJi app. Orientation setting on Iphone us unlocked. Any ideas? Due to lenght of Controller cable, it can only connect to Iphone on controller’s left side.
I'm super new to this. I have a SD card installed into my drone and can't figure out how to see the pictures I've taken. Can I use the app to see them or do I have to use a computer
Fantastic video thanks for this, could you tell me if with this app and AEB you can take 5 bracketed photos? 3 just aint cutting it on the fly app, thank you! :D
Sorry quick question, but has litchi updated? My menus look nothing like as shown here, and I don’t seem to have a compass shown in FPV mode, but maybe because I’ve only tried it inside my home.
Does this app work on any phone? Even if the phone is not compatible with DJI Fly App? I have a Samsun A13 that is not compatible with Dji Fly App. Thank you in advance.
My greatest concern is will DJI honour any warranty claim should your drone malfunction whilst using third party software. I have similar concerns for those with third party drone insurance. I feel it would be wise to check and read the small print before using these third party apps as there is potential risk for your drone malfunctioning and you being left high and dry with a claim.
Turn on uav airdata, you could see clearly the app and its version, so the encrypted Dat file you submit to claim surely have the app name which I think it will be difficult for dji to agree the claim.
Gary - I mentioned this at length in the video, I expect DJI will not cover you in this eventuality however a great number of other drone insurers do, for clarification using 3rd party apps are no more or less likely to result in any malfunction - as explained these apps use DJI's control points FROM DJI! These apps use DJI's commands so unless you are using smart tracking modes the app behaves just the same as the fly app.
Looks like I am going to have to get my head screwed back on for Litchi. I use to use Litchi way back on the Mavic and Phantom days. In generating a waypoint flight I remember that you can also see the altitude of each waypoint you have chosen to make sure you don't crash say into a hillside. And this is generating your flight at home on you home computer and when you open the litchi app the flight that you generated to shown, select the flight and fly. So looks like back to the books....
Hi Gavin , just bought the litchi app iOS for my iPhone 8 Plus . DJI fly app works fine but on the litchi app in follow mode it just flys off straight away away after I’ve pressed GO ? Do you know if my phone is compatible or any reason for this ? Thx Michael
Gavinhr, question, if you are flying a mission and loose connection to the controller would the drone continue on with the mission? Also is the something extra you need to do in order if this happens. I know the CSV file would not be updated where there is no connection...
@@GAVINHR Hi Gavinhr, I tried a short flight this afternoon and first I turned the controller off, the drone sat there for a minute and then it did a return to home. Then I tried the same short flight and disconnected the cable to my phone and same results. Why I asked is because there are other's on UA-cam that say that the drone will continue on with the mission and then when closer will reconnect back the the controller. So look like this is not the case. I wanted to fly a mission that was about a mile out and not sure if I would loose connection. So I don't think I will try that.. Don't want to lose the drone.. Thanks again..
I can only apologise for the bad advice you have seen elsewhere sadly but as you have found out failsafe RTH will always take priority, to be fair the mini 2 should keep a connection a mile away
@@GAVINHR so it is implemented in the application without the possibility of change? The DJI app has options for what the drone should do after losing the signal, hang, land, return to the starting point.
A question if I might be allowed. The video record button was active right from the get-go. Am I to understand that recording mode is activated at take-off and not controlled by the Pilot as is the case with the fly app?
Again another great video Gavin. Very informative. Looking forward to the official release of the lichi app. With your videos, I will hit the ground running.
Will litchi work with my mavic mini and a galaxy s9? I haven't flown in almost a year and I look today and i can't even get the fly app from dji.... I own a paper weight right now.... Very unhappy with dji and Google. I'm likely selling this mini if I can't get this figured out. Very angry
I've been gone for a year I guess. I have a mini 2 now and still haven't flown either in over a year. I'm here again because I'm going airborne. Rewatching your vid. Thanks for your help sir.
Great start of going through Litchi in detail I would like you to go through the way-point settings especially the heading modes - it seems as the Manual(UC) mode will allow you to rotate the drone as if flies along the way-point route. My thought is that as mini 2 does not have obstacle sensors - creating a route avoiding obstacles allows me to freely look around without any risk of running into something.
Anyone know if my DJI fly away warranty will still apply if I lose or damage my drone and I haven't been using their software? Also what about public liability insurance from big drone insurance specialists?
@@GAVINHR Thanks much appreciated. Do you need to use the website to amend it to the Beta version? Or will the version downloaded from IoS or the App store work straigh off the bat? On Android it seems to state that Beta testing is full, although not on iOs as far as I can tell.....thanks in advance for any advice!
Thanks for the video Gavin, it answer some of my previous questions. You are doing an amazing job discovering all these functionalities of Litchi. Also, I drop an idea for your future videos: combine Litchi missions and an open source photogrammetry software to create 3D models with the Mini 2.

Hey Gaving. Great video!!! Question….it says to make sure you are using the latest DJI firmware. I really do not wanna upgrade to DJI 1.04 as you can not go backwards to an older firmware if you choose. Will this impact Litchi if I stick with 1.03???
sorry guys to appear thick but why the keys on my app does not allow me to programme the programmable button it also cant set the camera to face up My version is NOT the Beta can seem to get that Also is the SDK included in the Dji fly app Its working but doesnt seem to match the drone
Well done. Really good educational video. The dynamic homepoint justifies the price, if it works reliably. Apologies if you mentioned this but if you are flying with DYNAMIC homepoint, how does the RTH work if it loses connection to the controller. It cannot see the controller and therefore cannot return to it.
Does Litchi app require log in every 90 days or so? DJI Fly does and it is a pain when I was no where near cell signal or wifi, and havent flown it for 90 days or plus.
Great video, I am a new mini 2 owner and newb to flying drones. Question about Litchi, does it have geo restrictions that will block take off, limit flight etc.. like the DJI fly app?
Thanks for the video. The app does not fly the drone. What about waypoints, if you set a route and start it. If then the drone loses the signal from the remote control. Does it returns to home or complete the route?
Correct, I did say unless you are using any of the smart modes, as for waypoints / lost connection then because it is a failsafe then even if it is during a mission the RTH will override and the drone will come home
Been using the Litchi app for a few weeks and it's transformed my Mavic Mini the extra features available are great ...

Awesome vid! Made me comfortable with trying follow me mode.
Hi, is it possible to save a location, altitude and pitch so each time i make a flight i can position the drone in that exact or almost exact position, altitude and pitch?
How do you configure your Fn button in Litchi and do the other controller buttons still function as they would in the DJI app?
Sir, Please Guide How to display Latitude and longitude coordinates on screen while flying the drone in the Air. Drone : DJI MINI 3 PRO.
I know a Hull accent when I hear one lol love the videos mate,I've had my mavic mini a few months now and still learning new tricks 👍
Great drone still in the right hands!
I wonder if my DJI cover will cover it still in a flyaway or accident .
Nope
Incorrect
Great video. I think the waypoint mode is amazing.
any idea when the update to use litchi on apple for mini2?
I haven't had any problems with litchi on my mini se. I like this app
Does anyone have a video on how to pair with the Litchi app? My air 2s isnt working with it.
Using Litchi with mini Se and Iphone. Finding status bar is upside down, unlike DJi app. Orientation setting on Iphone us unlocked. Any ideas? Due to lenght of Controller cable, it can only connect to Iphone on controller’s left side.
It saying £25,on playstore
Any of those app can install on the first generation iPad mini ??
I'm super new to this. I have a SD card installed into my drone and can't figure out how to see the pictures I've taken. Can I use the app to see them or do I have to use a computer
Is this a fix for the Mini Se/Galaxy 22 incompatability?
Fantastic video thanks for this, could you tell me if with this app and AEB you can take 5 bracketed photos? 3 just aint cutting it on the fly app, thank you! :D
Can not get my right front LEd to switch off and on, please help. Use Phantom 3 Advanced for fishing.
Turn signals aren't mandatory yet bro
Sorry quick question, but has litchi updated? My menus look nothing like as shown here, and I don’t seem to have a compass shown in FPV mode, but maybe because I’ve only tried it inside my home.
Does anyone know if the app works with the Samsung A22 Android phone? I have the Mavic Air 2.
I would like to ask how can I see the transmission signal of the channels through the litchi application
Cheers for making the video, explained a lot of features for me
Does this app work on any phone?
Does the soft ware work with the mini 2,here in the states?,,
Great video Gavin, as usual. I have Litchi for my Mavic Mini but have never used it so far. Time to give it a go I think. Cheers
Hi there, no it will return to home as failsafe RTH will kick in
@@GAVINHR Hi Gavinhr, I tried a short flight this afternoon and first I turned the controller off, the drone sat there for a minute and then it did a return to home.
Thanks so much for clarification. I wish you the best in these uncertain times... Dave...
@@GAVINHR so it is implemented in the application without the possibility of change? The DJI app has options for what the drone should do after losing the signal, hang, land, return to the starting point.
Fantastic video thank you so much. My question is is there a way you can record your voice explaining what your drone is doing while flying the drone.
What about getting an unlocking code in restricted areas?
A question if I might be allowed. The video record button was active right from the get-go. Am I to understand that recording mode is activated at take-off and not controlled by the Pilot as is the case with the fly app?
Yes it is a feature you can switch on or off within the autel app so exactly that it will auto record upon take off if you wish it to!
@@GAVINHR ok thanks
If I install this on a tablet I use to fly a Mini 2 and Air 2s will it fly both or do I have to purchase an app for each one?
Can we use litchi with the Avata 2?
Can you provide the link for lichi and the insurance you used??
Again another great video Gavin. Very informative. Looking forward to the official release of the lichi app. With your videos, I will hit the ground running.
I certainly hope so! Thanks for watching ☺️
Will litchi work with my mavic mini and a galaxy s9? I haven't flown in almost a year and I look today and i can't even get the fly app from dji.... I own a paper weight right now.... Very unhappy with dji and Google. I'm likely selling this mini if I can't get this figured out. Very angry
Try this ; ua-cam.com/video/tuIURPFQ8zc/v-deo.html but yes it will work with litchi
I've been gone for a year I guess. I have a mini 2 now and still haven't flown either in over a year. I'm here again because I'm going airborne. Rewatching your vid. Thanks for your help sir.
Would have been good to have a clear breakdown of benefits of Litchi vs Dji Fly
This video made me question the point of this apps existence. The comments are far more informative lol.
Go watch all the other videos where I cover them in a series of videos. Or make your own
If you fly a mission and ot flys outside the safe fly circle/zone. It will it carry on or stop as it hits the red circle?
Can you change the aperture on the Air 2S?
Great start of going through Litchi in detail
I would like you to go through the way-point settings especially the heading modes - it seems as the Manual(UC) mode will allow you to rotate the drone as if flies along the way-point route. My thought is that as mini 2 does not have obstacle sensors - creating a route avoiding obstacles allows me to freely look around without any risk of running into something.
Yes waypoints will be my final video in the series
Hi, did someone already try to pass to DJI fly app from Litchi in fly ?
Anyone know if my DJI fly away warranty will still apply if I lose or damage my drone and I haven't been using their software? Also what about public liability insurance from big drone insurance specialists?
do you still have to login once every couple of months when using Litchi?
Can orbit be used with timed shot?
Great video. In terms of installing Lichi and connecting to the Mini 2 - is it literally just a matter of downloading?
That is correct Eric!
Hi there, yes both of them are out of beta now and the full versions are on the appropriate app / play store 🙂
Thanks for the video Gavin, it answer some of my previous questions. You are doing an amazing job discovering all these functionalities of Litchi. Also, I drop an idea for your future videos: combine Litchi missions and an open source photogrammetry software to create 3D models with the Mini 2.
That would be great if it can accomplish that
@@frederickgordon6703 Yes it can.I have done it. With mission with 57 photos and Maps Made Easy I could create a kmz file and see it in Google Earth. Thank you for this video.
@@rogeriotojeiro2884 thank you. Keep safe
Dronelink is better for doing this.
Yeah, but you need to buy then that app too 😅
Sadly my following mode works and dont i make the square around me press follow me and it just stays n hovers even the tracking mode is doin the same nothing like yours gavin😞😞😞any ideas what i can do please thanks
Hi Richard are you using two fingers to draw the square? You also need to press the follow to allow the drone to move
@@GAVINHR morning buddy yeah i do that uss my finger n thumb to make square then press the icon follow the square is green n i walk and it just hovers would u best to take the app off then reinstall it again love the waypoints bloody awesome that is 👍👍
Hi Richard - did you watch my active track video? I covered it in great detail there as there is a button you need to press to enable it to follow you :) check it out and see how you get on ! It's the one with the car in the thumbnail
@@GAVINHR yo dude yeah i watch that couple of times and did as it shows and some times it tracked me and next minute it just hovers i set height about 5meters and same for the distance and always made sure i had that green grid around me do u think i should delete it then re stall it again 🙄🙄🙄🙄thanks 👍👍
Hi could you do a video on waypoint setting please
as I now have litchi where is the option to save photos to phone
Thank you for your video in the past all been a great help for the mini 2 very much appreciated
Hey Gaving. Great video!!!
Question….it says to make sure you are using the latest DJI firmware. I really do not wanna upgrade to DJI 1.04 as you can not go backwards to an older firmware if you choose. Will this impact Litchi if I stick with 1.03???
No it will have no impact at all and you can continue on 01.03.0000 no problem at all
sorry guys to appear thick but why the keys on my app does not allow me to programme the programmable button it also cant set the camera to face up
My version is NOT the Beta can seem to get that
Also is the SDK included in the Dji fly app
Its working but doesnt seem to match the drone
how do they know what application i am using
Also will Litchi work on the Samsung S Tablet?
Well done. Really good educational video. The dynamic homepoint justifies the price, if it works reliably. Apologies if you mentioned this but if you are flying with DYNAMIC homepoint, how does the RTH work if it loses connection to the controller. It cannot see the controller and therefore cannot return to it.
The drone returns to the last dynamic home point it received.
Sorry cliff i missed this one, the previous answer is correct , G P thanks for that 🙂
Fantastic easy to understand video. Looks familiar area your in. Looks like around the grove hill road area
Thank you for the awesome review of the software. Until now the whole thing was a mystery. Its seems clean and uncluttered. 👍
salut tout d'un coup j'ai un ecran noir sur litchi que faire / merci
Does Litchi app require log in every 90 days or so? DJI Fly does and it is a pain when I was no where near cell signal or wifi, and havent flown it for 90 days or plus.
no I have never had to log back in on Litchi
Great video, I am a new mini 2 owner and newb to flying drones.
Question about Litchi, does it have geo restrictions that will block take off, limit flight etc.. like the DJI fly app?
Does this app allow me to set way points and follow me with a Mini 2?
Quick question, just like the DJI fly app needs your device have a 64 bit architecture, does Litichi. ?
Is it good for the spark
If you would've slowed down a bit i wouldn't have had to repeat over and over to abdorb it al... which was very thorough indeed.
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the video.
Brilliant video 😎
Activtrak always fails after a few seconds on my mini 2
Litchi should add access to photos and videos
Does Litchi allow FCC in CE area?
