Another extraordinary speech by Ms. Jackson....no teleprompter, no speechwriters, no script, no BS.....just common-sense, beautifully delivered political prose
Dave Fuller What impresses me about her is her ability to remember all of those facts without having to reference notes, especially the math. Are usually can remember a lot of facts about subjects I find interesting, but never with numbers.
A wonderful, honest and genuine lady. Lived the life of working class and tells it like it is. She is my hero. Seriously, what a woman, not afraid to stand up and speak on behalf of all the working class families and individuals. It's great to know we have her in our corner.
You could not of said it better, this lady is REAL just like the rest of us.She sees things the way it really is.God if she were PM this country would be better for us ordinary folk
Totally agree, a normal human in Westminster, my God she must feel like an alien. I think she is so good because she as an actress understands their game
agaian i could not agree more with you and with the bonus of being a working class person who understand the value of what things cost in the real world. Did you notice the smug smiles and looks she gets from the opposite side when she speaks. I wonder if her and Nigel forage i suspect they might actually
That kind of democracy only works in Britain. The US government is a two party system that is corrupt. The British government is a multiparty democracy that has many parties and can debate in this kind of manner that American politicians would never be able to
Glenda will go down as a great parliamentarian. A fighter for the weak and the vulnerable - like Byron and Shelly - artists who spent their brief time on the benches to speak the truth to power.
i am an american and have always admired ms. jackson. can anyone tell me, if she would ever consider running for party leader and try to become prime minister/
Glenda Jackson is some woman. A brilliant actress and now MP. Historians (and I) agree that Glenda's portrayal as Queen Elizabeth I in BBC's "Elizabeth R" is and will forever be the greatest interpretation of the queen. Her performance is most accurate and believable. Glenda is an empathic politician and I saw an interview years ago in which she dissed Thatcher's right-wing reign. Even now she makes reference to Thatcher with contempt. Hee hee...Go Glenda go!
Two words define Glenda Jackson: authentic, passionate. Unlike the wets from labour and the Con/Dems during their Thatcher tributes today, she was authentic and passionate in her contempt for much of Thatchers philosophy or what it bred. As for the "ill informed and ill mannered" Tory who was foolish to challenge a master of the theatrical and political stage, I wonder if he is still licking his wounds.
Thank you again Glenda. I've just watched this and admire once again what you had to say. Some things I've noticed though. The many absent chairs and the Tories giggling like simple minded school girls. Why are we paying them? They just argue with the Party opposite. Don't they know that they are supposed to DEFEND the CONCERNS of their CONSTITUENTS.Did they dare claim EXPENSES for their input? And shame on the LibDems for giving them the power in the first place. Why did the speaker not speak.
I should probably pay even more attention to my own country, but when I worked and lived in the UK five to six years after this conversation, it seemed like the whole town of Cambridge (that also has tremendous wealth) was full of homeless people. This was of course when the Cameron government's austerity was bearing its callous and cruel "fruit." Although, the "new" Blairian and post-Blairian labour preceding him were not much better - with the exception of Ms. Jackson's left-wing of the party, of course.
meaning... tax for EVERYBODY, not just big business party donors... Tory social engineering is as ignorant of human nature as socialism's, as far as I can see.
I think she was marvellous here. Astounded by the schoolboy reactions to facts that will destroy thousands of lives. A case of: 'I'm all right Jack' I guess. As to those, like leevwe, who believe housing benefit goes to the unemployed over 80% of it goes to people who are in employment but on a low income. And also, of course, there are disabled, or seriously ill, people who rely on this benefit to prevent homelessness and death. Don't be so ill-informed, nor so flippant.
Absolutely brilliiant Glenda, every point made clearly understood,. Pity the tory twats have never been in a position where their entire income is jsa, only then they might understand!
Another extraordinary speech by Ms. Jackson....no teleprompter, no speechwriters, no script, no BS.....just common-sense, beautifully delivered political prose
The same fiery passion she brought to every performance she now brings to politics. What an astounding human being! Bravo Miss Jackson, and Thank You!

What Labour needs is a young Glenda Jackson as a leader.
A politician with a genuine passion, ethical stance and a great deal of common sense. I never knew they existed!
Glenda Jackson for PM the only human being in parliament
You could not of said it better, this lady is REAL just like the rest of us.She sees things the way it really is.God if she were PM this country would be better for us ordinary folk

God, we need Glenda in Congress here in the US. This country is such a mess right now! Long live Glenda Jackson!!!
That kind of democracy only works in Britain. The US government is a two party system that is corrupt. The British government is a multiparty democracy that has many parties and can debate in this kind of manner that American politicians would never be able to

Glenda tells it like it is. She is a treasure.
She's fantastic, why isn't Glenda Jackson standing at the side of Jeremy Corbyn.
+ELIAKIM Joseph Sophia because she didn't stand for election in 2015
I worked with this woman when she was a double-Oscar winning actress. She really does have it. No man could meet such an extraordinary woman.
Great lady! Real decent & honest!
Why doesn't tax go down under a Tory government, then?
For some reason the end of this gets cut short, does anyone have a link to the whole thing?
Glenda Jackson you are a LEGEND!!
Glenda will go down as a great parliamentarian. A fighter for the weak and the vulnerable - like Byron and Shelly - artists who spent their brief time on the benches to speak the truth to power.
Keep waiting for someone in the galleries to yell "FIGHT!"

Is it against the rules of the House to wear a biker's leather jacket to a debate?
She is bloody Glenda Jackson. She is entitled to wear whatever on earth she wishes to.
the demise of Social Housing and local churches proclaiming Food bank. Welcome to the UK

She tells it like it is and the tories don't like it!

She needs to send them all to the tower!

close your eyes and imagine Queen Elizabeth I.
The fire burns as bright as in her youth.
It's such a tragedy that she's retiring. This is her last term. The House of Commons will have lost a hero.
Glenda is fab live! And looks stunning

Unfuckwithable!
