Setting Up the Perfect 1 Acre Pig Farm (in the woods)

- It's time to move the woodlot pigs to the next paddock. We clear a path in the woods for the fence and get the pigs onto fresh ground. I reminisce about my late father and how I'm working the land now just as he and his father before him did.

Josiah's face as he looks at the dirt..😆🤣honesty in his face is priceless
Josiah's face after he sniffed the dirt " smells like dirt" dad's lost his mind.
Jonah gets a lot of deserved attention as the oldest and he is so hard working, smart and inventive. BUT, there is something so adorable about Josiah. This is another kid to watch, the quiet one’s will always surprise you.
I think he’ll do something else besides farming.
@@19queenbee55 Never. Didn't you see the video. This is their family's land
@@19queenbee55 - My prediction. Both boys are into heavy machinery and building so I predict they will go into construction, Jonah out on the job site and Josiah running the office.
@@kenchappell2054 Yes ... Both love figuring out mechanical things! Such a blessing to have that ability when you live on the farm. ❤️
Absolutely blessed with beautiful parents😘❤️✌️🦋
You and The Beautiful One have done a wonderful job of raising the chitlers. This is what drew me to your channel from the beginning. Watch them play and explore and be real children. Was such a beautiful thing in the modern world. Now watching them grow up and be so inventive and hard working people. It really has been a inspiration to me in the ability of parents to teach and love their children naturally without all the craziness that the world says we need. God bless you and your family
Sorry but this man has never given glory to God on this channel.
Does anybody else miss the old style vlogs
The best gift I received from my father was the love of gardening. He did veggies and flowers and even fruit trees.
“They’ll get it.” 💜 Meanwhile, Jonah: Uh, there’s dirt on your nose..? 😁😁 Happy Spring, family!
Bout time
Miss seeing the burn it up cooking show and more of the family vlog style. So nice to see everyone today 💓
It's springtime. That's outside busy time on a farm. Especially in a state that gets pretty hot most of the day.
Thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts-the foundational, worthwhile meaning of it all. We are bound to family in many ways, this being one.
8:38 Josiah's thinking "yeah I already smelled it Dad, and it smells like shit😂💩"
My daddy had a saying about someone who was very happy: 'He's as happy as a pig in slop!" Gotta love those little piggies :)
Ive heard that saying all my life. Im the only one born out of the hills of arkansas, but ive always loved those hills. Nothing like it.
🤩👍❤️🦋
8:37 I'm dying hahahahaha 🤣😂
He’s not impressed. Lol
Wow ! All I can say you are one blessed man ! You are making a life few families have ! Your connection with your late father, and his dad is a wonderful thing ! I love watching you grow , and the way you engage your children in your decisions is amazing .
Boots and Josiah, 2 drips of water. ( I don't know how you in America say this, but in dutch it means, they have the same looks)
Greetings from the Netherlands
They usually say something like "spitting image" of someone in the family. If they act the same way as someone in the family they say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree".
Two peas in a pod

Hi..... Justin Rhodes, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🏡🎥👍👍👍
you brought a tear to my eye yes some day kids will get it just like we are getting it
They sure will get it once day and this will be that much more precious🌿 I am so thankful that I get to really see these things so early in life🌸
Justin please address in a video why you choose to move eletric netting every day as opposed to building at least some permanent fencing to reduce work load while still being able to make daily rotations.
Keep up the good work as I know your helping thousands of people
I think he wants to run cattle in there after the pigs get thru. He'd have to take the permanent fence back down.
part of regenerative farming methods.. the land gets a rest and the grazers who by nature poo and pee where they eat , so less parasite pressure on them if you mimic nature kee the grazers moving.. pasture is more productive from being fertilized and grazed and the animals are healthier.. way more cost effective...
He d have to build 8 separate paddocks as that is how he envisions the rotation. All rotations happening as they’ve cleared the area but not dug it up as pigs will do. After each rotation he ll clear that area of old trees, fallen branches, trees and any brush the pigs don’t eat. As he does this it ll be easier to set the wire. The first setting takes the time because it’s wild land at that point. Once the pigs go through he wants to have that area for the cows also to rotate through. A permanent fence just isn’t feasible for the way he sees the future use. And he doesn t move the fencing every day. It’s every week or so. Today s video just showed that move
I personally did this with perm fencing and use it for multiple different animals and find it alot less labor intensive while completely suitable for different animals . I see no way that this would restrict use .
Time is the most precious commodity you have on homestead and with your kids. I see no benefit from. Repetitive work.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
I loved your heart talk...
Love to touch what my mother touched brings me comfort.
Good work and good memories my brother...Bless Up to you and yours.
I know you won't read this but you talk about cutting yourself and all them braches in there while your clearing. So you might want to think about carrying Henry through the woods. He doesn't understand ducks move while you walk through the woods
Thank you
It took me more than 30 years to accept my path, connected to the earth, and I'm about to fulfill my dream, the beginning of my destiny.. Thank you for your inspiration.. ❤️🇵🇹
Hi Justin and the lovely family, I just love the great content you constantly put out. Continued blessings
❤️❤️ your openness and your heart!
Hi Justin, I love your channel. It’s action straight away, that’s why I’ve been watching every single video in full from day one. This is how my vlogs will be like. Love you guys ♥️🇬🇧
You Did It Again~Precious Memories~😢🤗❤👍
Mr Justin you have an amazing family and you're an awesome daddy to your kids, teaching them what life is about on & off the farm,ya'll working together just amazes me,I say that because nowadays families working together on the farm is just about unheard of,especially with younger kids,ya'll have done & are doing a super fantastic job as a family, may the Lord continue to bless you and your family
🇬🇧 I see Henry’s walking!! 🎊🧸
Blessings to all!
love the boys! I fixed it!!! and the humor and your positivity
I love this video! I love the way that y'all work together as a family. That food really look good too! I love pigs I think they're beautiful! And I love the way that you talk and share things about your dad and Grandpa and one day your kids will get it about the smell of the dirt. I love in y'all from Paris Tennessee
To me it's amazing to think about that your dad plowed the area you're now walking in. I think that's what you're saying. And now it's all covered by trees and Forest. That's very interesting to me
Okay, that one made me teary eyed. Thanks
Your children are just amazing!
That prime rib looked amazing. That's the same thing we had for Easter smoked it on my smoker low and slow.
Happy farmer with mini mechanics. Watching your young men grow into more valuable farmers has got to make you proud.
That brush mower is sweet!
You have excellent helpers 👍
Josiah never Ceases to amaze me! Lord!!!!!
Do you mean he never ceases to amaze you?
@@StoneKathryn Yes! Lord!
Lol dog said I'm not sharing my food! Great job boy's so proud of your accomplishments.
Jonah is very talented 🐄🐖🐂
Awesome!
Justin,
I got your Book "Rooted" recently, great read. 👍 🙂
Your kids are amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Love it!
Yup! One day they’ll get it ❤️😃
As you get older your skin is thinner, and if you are on blood thinners or daily asprin, you will bleed easily. Lots of Vit C helps strengthen your blood vessels. Your pigs are improving the hill sides! Good work!
I love smelling the dirt too. Minnesota farm dirt is so black and loamy. Smells soooo good. 💖
I'm in Minnesota too but we have clay. We have a farm at the top of a bluff near the Mississippi River near Red Wing where they make Red Wing pottery because of the clay. I'm so glad you've got the good stuff.
Love your videos as always. I have a question, Isn't Autumn suppose to replace one of your milking cows?
Love your memories of Boots Justin and thanks for sharing! Blessings! 👏👏👏👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
A jiggle siphon might be helpful for the pig water . Happy trails
I love you Justin kissing the dirt!!! We have something in common!!! ❤️
Yes love my dads dirt 🙏🏻❤️
As Josiah looks at the dirt and looks at you with wonder on his face.!!!!
Somehow , I get the feeling he's not into farming
Josiah's face HAHAHAHA love the realness
My people lived in the Carolinas before the Europeans came to this continent. For thousands of years we lived the land. Grew the land. Raised families on the land. Land connects us to our ancestors. We , the Indigenous peoples of this land belive that we are just keeping it in trust for the next 7 generations. I like how you keep the memories of your ancestors/family but also plan for you children and children's children.
You've come a long way from clearing with your old riding mower!!! 🥳
💪 Mighty Men on the farm.
made me cry
Yep, one day they will get it! To understand takes a bit of time as we grow up, you are passing these things down to your children so they too will know how to survive.
I truly admire the connection to the land in which you sow. That is something my family does not have, I grew up in town and always wanted to be on the land. Fortunately through some serious hard work and dedication I have raised my boys out of town on the land. Actually justin one day a couple years ago I stood to stretch my back from the fence repairs I was doing and watched what I believe to be your bus go by when you were on the great american farm tour.
Thanks for sharing that. That would be really fun to have seen that!
Yup, that's how we are connected! Interesting! I never had a chance to visit the land my grandma and grandpa were born and lived on....now I wish I knew....but that land is not in the family anymore some of it even before I was born. A little part they sold it the rest was taken away from them. 😞
Love it when u have the baby on-board....
Dude!!! Stop making me cry!! 😭💖😭💖😭💖😭💖
🇳🇱great, let the pigs do the work and the advantage will be that the meat they produce is of excellent quality, greetings from the Netherlands, Hans.👍👍👍👍👍👍🍀
Hi those piglets looks beautiful
20 min ice cofee love it .thats kids a little gold-bricken time love em...
A lovely legacy, though JOsiah did not look too impressed smelling dirt lol
A place where we have a house, that is now a vacant home for holidays is in my father's family for over 200 years. It's not large like what you have, but when i smell it, I can't help but wonder about all these generations that lived there, used it for so many different crops and fruits. I will keep it, upgrade it and pass it on one day. I wouldn't sell it even if they offer me 1 million dollars. I'm that serious... :)
Your boys gave you a look like is that pig Pooh? They did not look like oh it's dirt or compost. What a look! Yes someday they will get it!. Hard work and many generations of fulfillment.
Omg that looked so yummy
Funny Justin. You say we have 20 minutes and the boys think go back home or go make ice coffee! You think chainsaw or tractor mower deck to clear for the pig fence! Beautiful roast Rebekah! Piglets are so cute and none of them have died? So glad that Jonah could fix the pig feeder. He was using his Leatherman, cool! Great, put some of the animals up for sale. I know Polly is stunted in growth but what kind of milk will she give, A2A2? Autumn was Phyllis' calf right? Can she be your new milker? Phyllis is getting old. Autumn is Studmuffin's calf so I guess that would be a problem. That's cool that you feel close to your dad Boots when you are in the woods making the paddocks for the pigs. Now you're taking Boots' place! So wonderful Justin. Thanks for this.
Good dirt does smell good
Is the dog able to get any exercise at all or does he have to stay penned in that small enclosure?
They just recently got her. She's being kept there until she's fully acclimated to the sheep and property.
i wish these weren't so short
Justin, your kids think you're nuts with the dirt smelling. 😂
Josiah is like what? Are you kidding me, my Dad has lost it, OK I’ll smell it
One day they'll get it, and appreciate it for a lifetime. They will teach their children that appreciation, and that will last an eternity
Your kids are smart Sir, listen them. They have great skills.🤔😇😎
Justin there is no doubt in my mind that Mr Boots is calling our to the masses in heaven, he yall come look at this, that's my boy and his boys and girl making my farm into something amazing.
Nice video but all I could think of when you kissed that dirt was "I hope this doesn't turn into a chicken liver episode" LOL.
Good job trunky
What was the size for each of the 12 paddocks? do you have an aerial view of all 12 paddocks?
Rebecca needs a channel of her own
The price of land has skyrocketed this year, even an acre is getting to be out of reach. At least I can dream.
What size paddocks did you divide the acre into? Sorry if you mentioned it in the video, I missed it.
Hi Justin! Do you use two separate pig fences? How long is each one? Solar charger? I'm hoping to run pigs in my woods within the year, the logistics are just bogging me down! Love these videos, thank you
You need a chipper in that old pig pen chip those old sticks and improve the soil from that.
So about a 10th an acre per paddock,, 10 pigs. Plenty of food besides. And 2nd time through you may see some grass as the silvo pasture develops.
Healthy, clean. Comfortable for the pigs.
1 Acre & 12 paddocks.
JOSIAH LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE YOUR DADDY!♥️
The boys are gems and and Lily is a doll I love seeing her in her colourful clothes making a point,,, one can dress up and do your work!!!!!! My the piglets have grown up !!!!
Thanks for a nice, relaxed video, shoot i would live out with them, it's way better than whom i live with!!🐷🐖🐷
You need a chipper for all the wood.
It's that missing connection that so many don't even know about that is likely the root of the world's problems. The feeling of belonging to something far greater than just the here and now, being a part of the workings of the earth itself.
Winnie made sure to say thank you before she dug in
I am a bit behind on the videos lately as we have been preparing for baby American Guinea Hogs to be born. I'd love to know where to get that feeder and waterer
He bought them from the farm that was going out of business. He has a Vlog about it.
The Boys are all thinkin', Dad's weird'n out again.
One day they'll get it. I walk these 140 acres that my Daddy, Granddaddy, Great GrandFather & Great-Great grandfather walked and I pray that one day my child will get it. We don't farm the land anymore & everyone tells me I should just sell it but my feet are planted here. Now my brother, child and neice can do what they want when I'm 6 ft under but as for me this land is the very life that I breathe and as long as I can pay the taxes we're keeping it. I would love to do something with it but my husband & I both have physical health problems and can't put in any really hard work anymore.
There are young people who would work it, if you could find them. I don't know how that might work, finding salt of the earth people. Ones that a 10 or twenty year lease would get them interested.
It's a major problem over the next 20 years. The more small farms and ranches saved the better. Maybe Justin will be able to interview someone on that.
