    Glad to finally see a more honest review of this mic, it's very attractive on paper but I've found that with audio gear it's less about specs and more about execution. The range/dropping issue doesn't surprise me, most of these little wifi mics have the same issue when you block line-of-sight. Which sucks when your only recording is in the camera; with the internal recording this is less of an issue for me; I would want to swap to the higher quality 32-bit file anyways. The transmission to the camera would really be more for sync and monitoring, as long as it works most of the time I would be fine with this. The delay in re-connecting is disappointing, hadn't seen any reviews mention that yet.

      @DustinArmstrongPro  3 дні тому

      Yeah I didn't say in the video, but for sure would only use the wireless audio file for sync to the 32 bit file. But yeah I was surprised watching some other reviews. Still has a use but definitely need to be aware of its disadvantages

    Great review. Very clear and honest. I have the VM30. I like the quality of the audio from the VM30. But, I had the same experience with the confusing controls on the VM30. Hopefully, the next versions of these mics will have better controls and performance.

      Like I mentioned, you probably get used to it but definitely an area of improvement. But the quality is pretty good and the 32 bit float option is nice

    Great vid as always! Kinda surprised with the Mic 2’s audio drop at that range. I want to test that as well! I’m never that far away from my camera so, the use case is pretty rare.

    Would have loved to see a comparison between the VM40 and a standard shotgun mic plugged into your Dji Mic 2, in theory it’s the same concept.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  2 дні тому +2

      I mean since it can do 32 bit float internally like the DJI mic 2, I don't see a reason why to do that haha. Better yet but the non wireless version of the Comica mic and plug it in to the dji mic and now it's wireless

    Finally an HONEST review lol. I feel like all these new 32bit float mics coming out are all gimmicky. Not the 32bit float but how these mics are made and marketed.
    32bit float is great but is the mic great? On paper the VM40 has a high 600 impedance (bad for clean signal) and also a high self noise 19db I believe?
    Its a noisy mic. Im guessing they rely heavily on noise cancelation and post editing.
    I would rather have a good Rode mic connected to a wireless lav and get my 32bit that way
    Ive been using 32bit for some time now and all these companies rushing to throw in this feature is sus 😂

    Why don't they just forget about the radio sound transmitter side and give us a time sync and internal recording. That would be more useful to most people doing pro work????

    Personally, i dont use the mic for long distance wireless recording regardless. Ill have it mounted on cam, in my hand for foley, or just out of frame in a shot. Unless you want to be a man-on-the-street creator, i wouldnt worry that much. Its a fantastic mic, regardless. 😅 Plus, just always record internally as a safe practice - you have 32gb 😂

    I think for live events no pro would consider these mics anyway, but for edited videos if you have 32bit float recording then all you mentioned connection issues are not that serious.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro

    Warning ⚠️ all these low-budget radio mics use frequencies that are crowded frequencies. They may work perfectly in one location and in another drop out. That is fine if you can re-record. But if it is a live event, I wouldn't recommend radio mics unless you are using recorders for a backup. They are not 100% reliable, but then they are inexpensive. Use at your own risk.

    Is there a way to get the 32 bit float mic to bake into your clip or do I need to sync it together in post?

    • @Comica.America
      @Comica.America День тому +1

      Hi, Comica VM40 has 32GB on-board recording, so you can output the on-board recording audio track.

    • @DustinArmstrongPro
      @DustinArmstrongPro  День тому +1

      You would have to sync in post production. But even with the wireless track cutting out it would likely not be too difficult to sync. The only way you can bake in 32 bit float audio into camera is using the LUMIX GH7 with the XLR 2 adapter.

      so for someone getting into live events and wants something robust, what do you recommend? i wanted to get this because for events i can simply just use the 3.5 jack or even usb directly into my camera, and then the internal recording will likely be used anyway. would only use the wireless mode for commercials, interviews etc
