Great video! Just one thing, Amelia wasn't originally a time traveler, just a regular detective. Only a few days after debut she added this aspect to her lore by herself. And it works so well that people forget she wasn't a time traveler from the start.
I think the fact that she only just is a detective further elevates his point of Amelia feeling like she's the main character/leader of the group because of how normal she is compared to the rest of Myth too. Edit: Not normal 'normal'(because honestly shes the weirdest in the group) but in terms of design and lore
Cover honestly picked the perfect group of people, I physically cannot imagine anyone else in the roles of holomyth heck even the designs are immaculate and seem purpose designed to be iconic as fuck.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. All of the HoloEN girls are absolutely golden and iconic, and I seriously cannot fathom anyone else being in each of their roles. It’s why I wonder if when they audition, do they get to pick what character they audition for, or is it just a general audition and then Cover decides what role would fit each passing applicant best?
@@chanlaman2565 whatever the case is cover rivals botan's shooting accuracy when it comes to casting because they dont miss at all, not just holomyth but any of the girls i draw a blank even trying to imagine anyone else in the role, can you imagine someone other than watame playing watame? its so inconceivably alien that its impossible to imagine, i cant say that in full confidence with the other vtuber agencies, whatever hololives casting group is like or their processes are for deciding characters since at least according to the holomyth girls the characters are made ahead of time and small alterations can be requested but theyre mostly set in stone aside from little details, they are doing an incredible job making the magic happen.
@@Akaryusan I feel that in order for this to work, they need to pick the perfect tailored personality for the character and do alot of changes for them to even fit, its nuts how much the character fits perfectly with the person behind, the main problem here is that they make them bounce from each other in all aspect you can imagine, this is good when you see a collab of 5 of that gen, but cut 1 person and they feel incomplete, a good example is Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5. You know that something is missing there, and its not because we know what we had before, its the same vibe as watching Full Metal Classic, its good but you feel something is missing there, you don't know what but you kno something is missing, then you watch FMA Brotherhood, and everything makes sense now
@@tribopower their casting and whatever process they go through in idol bootcamp to forge bonds between the girls before debuting is covers greatest strength but also it makes it that much more painful when someone leaves especially on bad terms like aloe and rushia. but when someone leaves on good terms like coco its nothing short of amazing.
It will never not be funny to me that the most calm, composed and analytical person I've seen talking about vtubers, is a depressed, drunken (judging by the bottle) rabbit-head thingy.
I think Kiara deserves a lot more credit than she usually gets too. These days if you asked who is the "leader" of the group, most people would say Ame, but for the first few months after their debuts I think people really underrate how much Kiara pulled the group together with her extrovert energy. For a while the other four girls were clearly nervous and shy about speaking up in collabs and there was a while when a lot of the full group streams ended up with Kiara filling a ton of dead air and asking the other girls questions or making conversation to help them open up. Her ability to talk to anyone without any shyness or shame was really important not just for connecting with the JP branch early on but also for bringing the group together and helping everyone else shine too.
i couldnt agree more . at first i was as crazy for senzawa as everyone else , but that cooled as i watched more of their colabs. now im tied on liking ina and kiara best .
Here's how i see them Ame is the leader, one who makes the path Kiara is the heart, one who kept them together and stronger Calli is the diplomat, the one who went a rampage across the platform with all sorts of projects Ina is the watcher, the one who keep (the seiso if there even is one) watch over the other girls Gura is the fool, the one who brings the sun in a lot of unexpected and funny ways
Calli's remix contest was another element of fucking genius that helped boost the popularity into whole other fandoms, too. You had whole other fandoms that were seeing some of their favorite artists making remix of this "weird vTuber song," figuring out it was actually fire and spreading that shit. Especially with how rabid the holomyth fans were to drop a ton of support on anyone who would even tangentially involve themselves with their music (see the metric shit-ton of rappers reacting to Calli's songs and the massive spikes in viewership for them, the Ame fox-on-box remix follow ups, etc.) folks that weren't even into anime suddenly knew who these vTubers were.
Bruh, I forgot about how that remix contest was a pretty important moment. Calli hosting that also helped me to discover some other vtubers (BOOGEY VOXX and Ririsya) that I have come to love for their musical talent.
Alot come into place so perfectly, Gura already massive followage and shenenigans from before (no matter how you look at it, she was a veteran even before joining holo) Ame with her insane ideas, memes and gremlim personality, the chill and talented Ina, the rock left bottom hype talented Kiara... and then Calli oof, It was just to much
@@tribopower Fr, it's almost unfair just how good of a team these girls make xD Cuz not only are they all good individually, but when they come together, things just get fucking crazy, even despite some set-backs, like that early Country Roads cover, while not absolutely horrible, most of the girls were not exactly happy with the outcome, and it was actually part of the reason why it took them almost a whole year to finally make another group song. But that was sort a a blessing in disguise, cuz at the end they realized, that they could actually do pretty much all of the work within their own group, instead of having to outsource any of it xD
Speaking of the girls bringing in people from different groups, Ina brought the attention of a lot of artists in the industry and inspires more people to get good at art too
One of the biggest reasons to their success is also just how well these girls were doing on their own beforehand. Cover picked already successful individuals and gave them a bigger platform. I see a lot of indie tubers complain that they would be just as big if they had something like Hololive to push them but they fail to see just how well Cover vetted their talent. You can call it luck all you want but you were 100% correct that Cover HR deserves a ton of praise for changing the vtubing landscape.
Indeed new fan maybe not know why hololive so popular, but for old fanbase they know the quality of vtuber itself. Heck even Subaru and Matsuri say they lucky.. But eyes of Ceo can't be underestimate
That might be true. However, there's one exception to that statement. That is Amelia, the one who's supposed to be the "leader" of the group. You see, when they debuted and I delve into their background life, I'm concerned about her. Why would Cover pick some no name alongside the other much more succesful one? Wouldn't they outshine her and put an unnecessary burden on her? Well, right now I must say that these are foolish thoughts. She act her part, and carve her place alongside her more succesful genmates. Whoever gave her the greenlight at Hololive and gave her backstory should really get a massive raise.
@@kungkungz1321 I took Amelia as the missing part of the puzzle when it came to garnering an EN audience. Her original streams showed a ton of creativity with the gameshows she ran among other things. She is also the only HoloEN member to have a background in more FPS games than just random Apex collabs. If you wanted to grab a Botan share of the possible EN fanbase you needed both of those attributes.
@@kungkungz1321 To put some contrast into your argument, she was far from a media juggernaut of some degree like her peers, yes, but her track record was very solid nonetheless. Due to experience on the field given the fact that she is a pioneer and one of the EN vtuber scene's very first content creators, one that helped to build the community, pushing the creative boundaries on her own for a long time and departed as an albeit niche but hugely respected and inspiring figure. Cover took a gamble given her audience reach, sure, but the call had its merits.
@@Gatherbro If it weren't for Ame's creativity in her debut, I wouldn't have fell down the rabbit hole. Which is why I always say that Ame's the one who pushed me down. Seriously, the creativity of this girl is just *chef's kiss*
I've often imagined a proper hololive/vtuber historian channel like this would exist someday. Thanks for putting the effort, research and memes into this vid, really appreciated
I'm actually glad that someone is talking about the cultural & business(?) significance of Hololive & just vtubers in general. I mean, I'm a simple person; I see cute/cool anime, girls/guys, I like. But, to underplay just how massive this industry has exploded would be a disservice. So... uh... thanks.
The ideas and inevitable fate of Coco reminds me of an old proverb. “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” While she's not truly gone, the things she's set in motion have truly changed the landscape.
Honestly whoever the people are that recruit the talents in Hololive have got to be insanely amazing judges of character. It's stupid just how well everyone fits their avatars and how they fit in with everyone else
Let's not forget that this is a Japanese company as well. Japanese culture is very different than that of most English speaking countries. So not only did they find 5 talents who are so good they changed the internet forever. They did so while correctly taking into account western cultural differences. They didn't ask "what would Japanese people want to see" and then just do that in English. They asked "what does the world want to see" and became one of the few groups in history to get a correct answer.
Part of their design that I always thought had to be intentional was their colors. Each girl has a primary color to represent her and it gives us the Power Rangers effect and allows for striking and memorable shots with each other, far more than most Vtuber groups which really do feel conjoined, with many of the girls not having a primary color and not meshing so well together. Part of that dynamic was crucial to Myth's impact.
Calli is an absolute monster. She has like 5 other side projects going outside Hololive and provides a lot of the EN technical support. Also, she sung the anime MV song, which is insane to me given her voice in her rap. Moral of the story? Applebee's is so horrible you will literally cross the ocean and take on 7 jobs and become an international rap god to never have to bus tables and deal with half price appetizers again.
i also really like how, at debut, she said she isnt confident in her singing, just rapping, and would rather not sing in karaoke etc. And then now she did the MV song, and got so so much better at singing
I was first introduced to Hololive EN and vtubers in general when I saw a video of two different streamers and how they treat their fan who has a terminal illness. The first streamer (I won't say her name because, ugh) began to insult her fan for wearing a wig because all of their hair went away due to chemo. She called her fan a loser for having cancer. And the other streamer is Takanashi Kiara. When a caring fan sent a super chat of another fan who was giving their last message because they were dying. And even though she is a virtual idol, I could see Kiara's raw emotion and concern for her fan. She didn't care if the chat was fake. She just made their fan happy for being caring and true to herself. And that's how Kiara became my all time oshi and I'm thankful to her because she got to introduce me to a wonderful community.
Ahhh I remember that clip as well although at the time, I was already subbed to Tenchou but was just an occasional viewer. It really bumped her up as my oshi & I started watching more of her. I think what makes vtubers really special is that you can see the realest kindest people even behind these 2D avatars. Another one of my favorites for example is Ame when she talked about how losing someone close to her made her feel like she lost her purpose. But then said "I hope you carve out your own little happy place in the world. Everybody's success looks different. It may not look like mine or somebody else's but there's always something that'll make you happy." Until now, when I feel down, I just remember that or rewatch that clip. That clip from Ame and Kiara's "think of yourself as phoenix" with her always reminding that everybody deserves a chance and knowing what she's been through before Hololive, these motivate me to keep on living & doing my best. It may seem silly to some, hinging that much weight to virtual anime streamers who play games and make jokes but HoloMyth really helped me up when I was at my lowest, and even when they're gone, they'll always have a special place in my heart. Especially Tenchou who is the best boss in the world 🧡
It's been a long time since myth debut. I remember that I watched Vtubers before myth, but they are the ones who dragged me down the rabbit hole for sure. The reason I think they had such a huge success is the timing. Like, the girls a really talented, a lot, but they also had great timing when coming out. There was a great gap in EN Vtubers and people, being stuck in their houses, could binge any content they were given. So when myth arrived, everyone had time to watch them, and everyone realized how talented they all are. Tho I've never considered how their outfits matches so good with her personality, so maybe that also played some part in the success. Great video dude, hope you keep making more.
What's really cool with Ame's achievement is that she can be an inspiration to others outside of Hololive. Like the VR content for example, Myth have their own 3D worlds funded and created by the makers of the map / models. That gives the girls more fun activity to do or experiment on stuff they like to try which they recently did earlier on their VR dance collab. That one went well! NijisanjiEN later followed this and created one as well thanks to Selen who I think is the one who funded the project. It's safe to assume that she got the idea from Ame (even though she never mention her) because of how her creative ideas in her content can influence people to follow along. So really, Ame's talent is strong when it comes to creative projects. If she post an announcement on something that's totally different, don't miss it!
I'd also like to point out that Hololive was actually relatively progressive for letting them do that in the first place. A lot of bigger companies would've just been, "No, that clearly doesn't fit with our brand, you can't do that." Hololive, as a company, has been really good about letting fan creations become a part of their culture without causing issues or worrying too much.
@@TubeTAG what's good is that they are now given full autonomy in projects so they pretty much doesnt need approval from cover to do their own stuff. This is great since they can bring out their creative ideas without worrying if it gets green lit....
This is especially true for me as it was Gawr Gura who was my entryway into the Holo-hole, followed eventually by a nosedive into Vtubers in general. I remember the moment clearly as it was a clip of Gura singing "Song of the Ancients" that was just randomly suggested to me on UA-cam and since the remake game had just come out and decided to clip on it and was just stunned by how good her voice sounded. This one clip lead to further suggestions popping up in my feed which showed Gura to be a very goofy shark girl. This eventually lead me to watching her debut stream and then watching her react to her debut stream on her anniversary and THEN I started looking onto the other Holo EN girls but before that I started getting recommended clips from other Hololive girls. But the FINAL nail in my coffin came in the form of a clip featuring a cute doggo being told how to diffuse a bomb by a rapping grim reaper which in 34 seconds completely changed what sort of content I consume on a daily basis.
A very good video of the group of girls that change the vtuber comunity, the fanbase love them, as we saw when some takodachis manage to put a happy birthday message for Ina in freaking Times Squares (a certain warden of time will have the same soon)
I just got into Hololive back in November but as a person from the outside looking in b4 I was a fan it blew my mind by how much attention myth got. Seeing the EN announcement top of r/all , hearing the news of Gura 1mill subs, her in a Taco Bell commercial, Ina’s time square birthday project, Cali song hitting number 1, Kiara and KFC weird interaction on Twitter (lol) ,going to Anime NYC n seeing the MASSIVE line to get a hololive shirt. N I think u said it best it was lighting in a bottle I don’t think we’ll see anything blow up like this ever again.
I learned about the whole Hololive Community because of Calli's interview in the Trash Taste Podcast and then JP sucked me into the hole, particularly Coco's Meme Review, Haachama's #Coexist arc and JoJo karaoke for some of the rest.
Was there in #Coexist arc was a weird time for me to Listened to Asmr for 10 minutes fell asleep, woke up in Haachama's Stream exactly at the time she was beheading Haato. Quite a ride tbh
I'm gonna be honest I expected nothing of HoloEN. In part for as you said the state of Twitch's female streamers, but on that part I was thinking you can be surprised. But the real reason I didn't expect anything is because of American dub version of anime and Japanese video games, even the one that people consider to be excellent. To my french ears they always sounded out of place comparing to their Japanese counterparts. I'm glad to say I was wrong. Not only did Cover found talented people with amazing voices, but they found people with excellent knowledge of the Internet and Japanese culture that love that culture just like their target audience.
I think it comes down to the girls not trying to replicate Japanese anime character voices or be cutesy and just speaking like themselves. A lot of anime dubs are trying to copy a voice and speaking style (including like the actual script) that just doesn't work in English and end up sounding weird. Whereas good EN vtubers are using voices and playing characters that are suited for the language they're speaking instead of trying to copy an archetype that only works in Japanese. One of the only EN anime dubs I like better than the original is Black Lagoon because its the opposite almost, the Japanese dub was trying to portray a certain western character archetype that just doesn't work well in Japanese, while the English dub team understood what the characters would actually speak like and scripted it appropriately.
This is very true for a variety of dubs. It's a problem in two ways. One, casting of Anime is shit. it's a very insular industry and unfortunately the JP side of the anime industry doesn't do enough to take control of the EN dubs and translators leading to bad representations of their work. There's also the aspect of the dubs having to fit what they say into the mouth movements of Japanese speaking characters.
@@rs.matr1x It's not really about the quality of casting. The biggest problem if you look into it is Japan has a culture of VAs, if you look there's dozens of voice acting schools in Tokyo ALONE. While in the entirety of the USA, there are only 2 colleges that focus on voice acting training. How are you supposed to find quality VAs when the industry doesn't produce any? I think that's the biggest problem facing English anime dubs.
That 'a' from Gura was a secret code for those who knew and really confused the crap out of everyone who didn't know. Honestly, it was a genius move from her since if she knows she knows but when she doesn't know she really doesn't know.
Personally, I was just tired of "normal" UA-cam. Too much drama and politic opinions. I remember watching Pekora's clips, I was really reluctant to watch vtubers before, never watched streams or Minecraft videos either, and then I was there having genuine entertainment by watching them. When EN debuted, I cringed really hard on Calli debut and ignored all of them for a few days but then started to watch mainly Watson, who in my opinion found the best balance between the persona and person which later all of them came up too. Until this day watching Hololive is my "deepest secret", I don't want to be associate on how this community sometimes behaves, but I really wanted to talk about it with my friends and explain like this video why Hololive is awesome.
I do agree that the holomyth were really trying too hard back when they first debuted with the exception of ame. She's been kinda wacky from the very beginning and that doesn't change. Everyone else? Gura and ina seems a bit too shy, kiara try to be way too hyper, calli? I dunno, she's a bit cringy in the beginning.
Wow i kind of agree, i really found calli trying to act cutesy and moe at first and after watching watson, which in turn just so weird and big brain debut, i noticed the change in the other four, its like ame opened their eyes to just be their own selves and it worked out so well, especially Calli. Shes now the 2nd most subscribed in Myth next to Gura i think.
Amelia's creativity in every project she decides to tackle has made me see her as the unofficial leader of EN as a whole. Guerilla VR sessions, hiring people to make an entire smolverse VR world (that would then release to the public), hiring someone to make an entire choreography and MV and taking charge as far as huge collaborations go. She goes above and beyond to make certain that everyone involved will have a good time. She's the heart of EN.
@@sarethdarva she's said before that she'll always be streaming no matter what happens since it's something she loves doing. So she'll probably go indie if she graduates
Hololives best feature is the community involvement. From fan artists to music producers, the community has had a huge effect in growing these girls persona. Just look at what Walifee did with Smol Ame and how much of an effect their little doodle did to enhance the content. The fan content is one of my favorite things about this genre.
It's funny how vtubing is also bridging the gap between weebs and normies. Being able to actually talk with your favorite waifus is something an old school otaku like myself never even dreamed about back then.
They came out swinging, did not expect to have any sort of impact - left a massive impact crater in their wake. 2020 was a hectic year for Hololive, certainly both good and bad. Deadly plague, Gen 4 establishing themselves, Asacoco, the Legendary Golden Week, HoloCaust, Meme Reviews, Gen 5 dramatic start, China Meltdown. The whole year went by in a blitz, from the comfort of my room. Blessed.
They are really the GOATs of the english Vtuber community and it's not even close. These 5 and Coco of course are the reason we are where we are today. And you could argue against this and that the English Vtuber side would eventually grow anyway but you cannot deny their influence is just huge at this point. Coco literally being Prometheus, giving us the gift from the gods and now Ame and Kiara keep her legacy alive still. Trully they are legends and will remain in history as one of, if not THE best vtuber group of all time.
@@wisdumcube the hype help alot Add those doubters turn to fans And finally being able to understand coz of the universal language En (Plus all the talent and effort they put into just to entertain us)
@@kaichoudp3139 Makes me wonder if Council had a chance if youtube didn't purge their accounts of subs twice. Kronii was growing exponentially like Gura before it happened. And youtube also changed the algorithm to favor short content again to compete with tiktok. It still hurts to think about the potential that might've been wasted.
There's still a tear every time i see the moment they 3d debuted and did everything.... I wish that by the time i retire they will be the legends of our generation...
I just absolutely love HoloMyth. I remember my first impression of them was, "are these the new FGO servants?". Part of me wished I could go back in time and enjoy watching their streams knowing how much they'll accomplish in the years. I'm glad to be here though. Wouldn't trade this for anything. Great video!
@@aderpyturt yep, Kiara, Ina, Kronii, Bae and Sana have all had artists who've worked on servants, several others have done CE art in the game as well. Funny thing is if 'Watson' did ever become a servant, I could easily imagine them making him a spunky young girl like Ame.
Hololive is really meticulous in pairing the talent and the model.. look how they discarded two awesome models just because they cannot find talents that would fit to it
@@EmyrTyrn It's internal secret stuff. Leaks like that have severe consequences to internal stuff that the CEO cannot intervene. We lost one from that kind of leak.
If Kizuna is the queen of VTubing and essentially created VTubing Sora - goddess of Hololive and the most seiso girl in the world, like a mother endured and raised her children The HoloMyth is a great five, five friends, not only for each other, but for everyone who watches them. It is impossible to overestimate their contribution not only to the company, but to the world of VTubing One day, they will all leave this stage. Unfortunately, this will happen. But trust me - in the Museum of the Internet, they will all stand side by side as equal great Legends.
These recruits are really solid. You have a proven entertainer with solid comedy and singing ability, two great singers from different genres, an illustrator who can create great design and a creative dynamo who understand the technical stuff. And I haven't even mentioned their personalities on and off the screen.
I think you've touched on this topic here and there but I'd love to see a video about the progression of Hololive Vtubers (and Vtubers in general) as they have become more popular. I'm fairly new to the world of Vtubers but even from my limited experience I can see the leaps and bounds being seen in character modeling, rigging, audio/video/production quality, and most importantly the skill of the Vtubers themselves. Just using Hololive as an example, it feels like the skill level of their Vtubers is getting higher and higher over time. Both Holo EN 1st and 2nd gen are filled with individuals who speak multiple languages and who have various other skills that make them multi-talented in ways that you just didn't see with early Hololive. At first I thought this was just an EN thing as Nijisanji EN seemed to also have many of these traits but then Gen 6 HoloX debuted and I was absolutely STUNNED. It's filled with unique characters with fantastic designs that also are carving out their own path but unlike every other JP generation they pretty much IMMEDIATELY started interacting directly with the EN girls with all of HoloX seemingly being able to speak at least some English and being WILLING to do so to further interactions. Maybe this is due to them being kouhais who seemingly have no fear in interacting with their seniors but I honestly haven't seen such immediately interplay between branches since Holo ID. Hell, Iroha even collab'd with Sora-san who you rarely see in collaborations aside from the official ones with her stating that she's not opposed to collabs but she doesn't actively seek them out as there's always this pedestal that most of the others put her on and it seemingly makes her a little uncomfortable.
holoen is massive, especially holomyth, but personally, i think nothing would've actually worked out nearly as well as it has if it wasn't for gura and her explosive growth leading to more people taking notice of the rest of holoen.
Honestly all of them contributed a ton. Like i find that kiara isnt as talked about as much when attributing to success but i remember that back in the earlier days, Kiara would often carry the full collabs hard. She has always been a good host and was instrumental in selling Myth as a whole unit/generation instead of being just a group of girls who got employed at the same time
@@pinkyd2657 Kiara can put together massive collabs and is the exact bridging point connecting En to Jp with Holotalks and more. This allowed everyone to get boosted across Hololive. Also, her music is FIRE just like Calli's!
@@pinkyd2657 I agree. Gura is by far the most successful, but the group as a whole contributed to just how massive HoloEn got. Putting it all on Gura would put less attention on the hard work the rest of her gen mates did in creating their own communities
It's the interaction that is the charm imo, gura being the bait and meme factory, calli with the music, kiara for the fun vibes, ina when you want to rest and ame for the new gadgets and group fun.
Im smiling in the entire video 😄 Im not really in mood to watch VTubers for pretty long time now, but this lighten my mood and feeling that I now want to watch full streams in live again.
This videos are very informative, really like them... Also while it does pays respects to all that needs to be respected is nice to... see the cheeky knowledgement (yes, we know xD) Also absolutely good idea to have a video on Amelia Watson... Also while speaking of Myth something not relevant to the start but to the permanence of the group? Is how well they all blend together in their dynamics and how despite everything you can feel they are a close af group
Yes, yes, I can't agree more. Myth has a great dynamic and chemistry with all their members. Something that only 3rd gen and maybe 5th gen has in all the generations of Hololive. You can pair up any two members and you'll have gold I think it was Calli who said that they didn't really have anyone to guide or help them when they debuted because there was a large gap between them & the JP branch. It made things very difficult for them I'm sure but this undoubtedly brought them closer together as a group. And that's beautiful ❤
I decided that HoloMyth will be my gateway to Hololive and I am not wrong.. Never regret it. It was rumored that HoloMyth audition is one of the most difficult and they really strike the top of the top for it. These 5 girls are legend.
What really made me like V tubers and a LOT of Holo Myth was nobody felt unnatural. They felt like genuine people in life (Ignoring design but personality wise) Gura is the one that messes around the most but gets messed around with as well. Cali is someone who rages at games very easily. Kiara is very energetic and really loves whatever she is doing in the moment. Ina is just very very very relaxed and is fine with whatever happens. And finally Amelia is very chill but also can rage if the circumstances are right. Most people know someone who follows one of these 5 personalities which made drawing people in easier (At least in my own opinion)
They did as well as they did partly because they're just that good, on their own and as a group, and partly because, in search of the ever-elusive Perfect Idol, Yagoo has become incredibly skilled at identifying those who can become even more radiant.
Again... Very nice content! I enjoy every second of it... I knew holomyth was a very successful gen. But didnt expect it to be that big. Nice knowing it! Thanks bro... Cant w8 for ur nxt one! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love that the last pic which is them during the smol 3d anniversary collab is the same pic I got on my phone. Only holo pic I have on there and it's to make me smile when I'm down. Always works.
11:56 That's true Cover really struck pure refined diamond, I started to notice this when Calli releases her songs after off with their head. I also saw the other girls as well and started to think "well holy crap Cover found good candidate among the western." Holomyth is a Power House in my Eyes.
Something that really impressed me when I jumped into the rabbit hole was that every single one in MYTH, STANDS OUT ON THEIR OWN, and plus they really have SS+ tier voices.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR DISCUSSION ON THEIR CHARACTER DESIGNS AND HOW THEY WORK OFF EACH OTHER. It's something I don't think every vtuber company understands, even hololive sometimes. A character desgin can look good on its own but if it can't work well with other desgins within its associated group then the group itself won't catch your immediate interest. Each member of myth has its focus color while having different art styles that work well together. It's something I wish hololive council got because that approach has proven to work yet again with holoX.
Yooooo thank you so much for the coverage! Been watching them almost since debut. Also awesome that you threw a clip of Knoxhill in there, hes a great content creator.
I think having Calli debut first was brilliant. Nobody expected her to be as dorky as she was. She looks like the "sexy onee-san" type and just completely destroyed that notion instantly, then on top of that she drops a rap song in her debut. Also Gura being super late to her debut was actually so in-character lol
gura has a magical talent of making even her mistakes be meaningful and incredibly well times, even though can tell they aren't preplanned. her jinx ability is increible
Honestly Hololive did such a good job choosing the talent for myth. They really knocked it out of the park and it really shows. Like each of them are different in what they do so each people has variety in the content they want
As someone who has been following HoloEN since their debuts, it feels so bizarre watching a video like this. I'm used to watching these kinds of videos for things I don't know much about, and learning new stuff. But in this case, I know it all, cuz I experienced it all in real time, as it was all happening. And yeah, it seriously cannot be overstated just how perfectly Cover caught lightning in a bottle with these girls. I know a couple of him them have been suffering from some impostor syndrome over their explosive success, but I'm going to say they all 100% deserve it all. I see a lot of people being mad that every new Hololive generation has over 100k subs before they even debut, but they fail to realize a few things: first of all, if they suck, then it doesn't matter if they have 100k at their debut, people won't stick around. And as has been mentioned several times too, these girls were already successful, or at the very least, had proved enough that they were worth the investment. And yes, I've been saying for ages now too, who ever is in charge of picking the people from the auditions better have a fucking kings bounty as a salary, cuz they have been doing a PHENOMENAL job.
Ahh holomyth the myth of how something so simple yet so hard to achieve come true, a balance Gura, the icon who will always make myth relevant and the best Kiara, the unlimited vitality that will keep myth energy to its full potential in the beginning and whatever happen next Calli, the musician that will keep myth spirit to music at its best as an idol group Ina, the artist that will paint myth road to a success with pure loves and a lot of color to make its Pun to walk through And Ame, the one who will be there for myth for whatever wall or obstacle it need to get pass through
I watched this video during the beginning of my freefall into the Hololive rabbit hole, and now I am watching it again a few months later. This video is so well made, so well written, and so well articulated. Gosh I love HoloMyth and everything that came about as a result ❤🧡💛💙💜.
i fell in the hole a week after the myth girls debuted, i mostly watched the jp girls. But as i watched more and more of the en girls, they became really interesting and i loved their streams.
Hololive EN branch also saved Cover from their demise in Chinese market, completely getting out from Chinese influence by having three times the revenue of Holo CN in their entire career and that reached just in 3 months
I think this is often overlooked. China used to be big, established market for Hololive before the CN drama. Even though the CN branch itself wasn't doing well, Hololive JP was popular in China, especially Fubuki and Aqua. After all, Fubuki hit her first 1 million milestone in bilibili the summer of 2020, well before her 1mil milestone on youtube. They also had decently large sponsorships from games like Azur Lane. And I think one of Aqua's first solo lives was a bilibili collab and she also had unreleased music that was part of a promotion for a Chinese game company (can't remember which) that leaked when the drama was going down, and one of Aqua's appearances in one of her colleagues' (in Nijisanji maybe?) concert was canceled. The loss of potential revenue and opportunities was probably significant (at the time at least). But I guess its a moot point now that the Chinese government has clamped down so hard on the vtuber industry and gaming in general. So in a way Yagoo was ahead of the curve, though its a shame they can't play games like Genshin Impact. Another thing some old fans forget and newer fans don't know is that a lot of Chinese Hololive memes were spread and translated into English and posted on youtube, and was a big part in the early spread of Hololive content among the English speaking sphere while the english vtuber scene was in its infancy. People might try to downplay the influence or value of the Chinese market in early Hololive's success but that just goes to show you how monumentally successful and impactful Hololive Myth was. It overtook the conversation. It eventually lead Nijisanji to completely change focus, to point that they've effectively ended one branch and put two other branches on life support in pursuit to get a piece of what Hololive has/had (to good success recently since they finally outmaneuvered Cover in terms of male talent). Holo EN really changed the game. There is a non-zero chance that Cover wouldn't have weathered the China storm if Myth didn't explode on debut. Not only did Hololive EN multiply the English V-tuber audience, they ironically brought in more JP fans to Hololive who I think were fascinated by Western "idol" talent hand-picked by a Japanese company (not just the fact that they were english Vtubers), which is a relatively unexplored niche. This all combined to eclipsed the bilibili audience. And I have no exact proof of this, but I speculate that a lot of those new JP fans got absorbed into the rest of the Hololive ecosystem and started watching the JP talents, considering how HoloJP had exponential growth leading into 2021, while Nijisanji's JP branch had modest growth in that time.
I think they would have eventually needed to pull out of China tho. Too much bs to keep up with with all their regulations and shit that NEED to be as their supreme leader says or go with his agenda.
@@Suzushiirou Coco and Haato are practically off the ballpark types of talents since they focus on experimenting aspects, which unfortunately has the side effect of the CN incident. Amelia Watson is likely the one to represent the R&D of the EN branch due to influence of drawing in creative talents with her own means of developing the 3D environment with company approval. The Walfie models are a nice touch to note out how talents are proven before they ended up in larger projects.
Its start from a shitposter Dragon, then The Shark open the gate widely for the mass. It cannot be understated how huge the impact of coco and the massive success of Gura (Since no other Vtuber were even near the explosive growth of Gura in particular) and Myth in general. These 2 catalyst really open up the Vtuber floodgate to western audience.
i am one of the few people who is scared and excited at the same time given the fact that we dont have any good impression over the western woman streamers But myth are absolutely good. i'm kinda happy whoever in charge of the audition did a surprisingly good job. tbh, since myth, i am always excited for a new holo en wave. maybe because i started to treat it like a box of chocolate now. but yeah..since we're getting en holo stars, let's see how it goes
Honestly it's one of the reasons why I'm afraid of having a 2nd holo EN generation. That much impact on the first batch will create a large shadow over the next batch... but good thing I was proven wrong somehow... Been a sapling for quite a while.
@@mapleflag6518 that's not the point. What I'm trying to say is that a 2nd Holo EN generation will probably suffer more difficulty being under the shadow of the 1st generation. But I'm glad that I was proven wrong because I'm already a fan of one of them(Ceres Fauna).
@@jayzenstyle Councils growth wasn't quite as big but I don't think anyone was too surprised as it wasn't at the spike of Vtuber popularity like Myth were, that and the algorithm was going around unsubscribing people from their channels because 'youtube is youtube' which did hurt their growth quite a bit, but I think over time I think the Council and IRyS have all fit in just fine with their peers.

A really good insight! I feel similar principles could almost be applied to niji en male branch, as I feel they are having similar success to when the girls came out in holo en
The point about them all having different talents and filling different niches is one Ive been saying for a long time. Ita such an important part in my mind. Calli, leading the charge with her rap skills - until that moment, an idol rapper was an oxymoron, you could say. She immediately set the scene that Holomyth wasnt the same thing as HoloJP or HoloID. They were a different breed. Then came Kiara (oshi). And its such a stroke of genius that she came after Calli. Because Kiara showed that while HoloEN were different, the things which vtuber fans loved could still be found in them. Here came a Hololive fangirl, who could speak Japanese, and had a good understanding of what the scene was like and what people loved. She was my oshi since debut and has stayed that way. Then came Ina. Again, different vibe altogether. Here came a chill anime geek, pulling out references like Jugemu Jugemu, and giggling while showing off her god tier art. Next came Gura, the meme lord. A lot of yhe connection overseas fans had with Hololive before was through memes. And here came a master. Cute, amazing singing voice, and a talent for making clippable moments, her growth should really have been expected! And finally, Ame. Faking a British accent, "next slide please". Another geek, who left a steong impression this time through her creative usage of the technology available to her - something she would be come to be known for. Each of them having different strengths that didnt overshadow the others. Truly, an amazing selection of people.
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Council in comparison to Myth. When they were first announced I was skeptical that literally anything could even compare to Myth's perfect composition. I was/am impressed though. They don't feel like knock-off Myth at all. In fact, I think they enhance Myth.
Council ended up having their own category of gap appeal, particularly the avatar of concepts rather than mythical creatures (Amelia counts as mythical).
I still remember back in 2019 I was trying to google search youtube search What is HoloLive? and finding nothing but stream VODs in Japanese. It was pretty cool trying to understand the basic things like what was a hololive gen before being apart of any English community.
This video is awesome, and I'll so definitely use it as material for my current research project at university XD Keep it up! Your videos are so cool and informative
Ame is MC looks cause she is the only "Mortal" In their group... Then her childhood story is like MC backstory tragedy. Imagine yu befriend those mythical creature while you only mortal
Something not mentioned in this video (I think) is how well HoloMyth synergize with each other. Particularly TakaMori (especially early) and AmeSame. Shipping & fanart/fics have always been part of fandoms. While individually they’re amazing, together they are more than the sum of their parts. Plus how they embrace their biggest fans, audiences, and communities more broadly like the recent Holo x Omocat fashion contest contributes to virtuous cycles of more success.
To be fair to Cover, they already had the beginnings of the plans for an EN branch before Coco started pushing. I've no doubt her pushing helped it develop faster.
As someone who only got into Vtubers way after Myth's debut, it's really interesting to see a perspective on how emblematic they were. Hololive really struck gold with all the five talents and the synergy with the whole group. It really is amazing to think how much they changed the whole landscape.
Just kinda a thought, not quite related to the video but I hope people like holocouncil as much or think just as highly of them 🥺💕 I’ve been seeing a lot of weird hate for them lately is all. Like yes they have an absolutely massively talented gen to follow after, but I still think they have their own quirks that make them unique and successful too. But just a thought I have lol
Holy fuck. She went back in time to change most of the fanbase's memories.

@@spaghettisan I too found Riri through Calli's contest
And now I consistently watch Riri's singing streams

The fact that Gura beat Korone and Fubuki to 1 million subs, and reached that goal in just over a month, is still insane to me.
I'm actually glad that someone is talking about the cultural & business(?) significance of Hololive & just vtubers in general.
I mean, I'm a simple person; I see cute/cool anime, girls/guys, I like. But, to underplay just how massive this industry has exploded would be a disservice.
So... uh... thanks.
Don’t get me wrong I love hololive but not everyone cares about stuff like this it’s weird to them but I love it!! Well I love “Them” ! 💜
The ideas and inevitable fate of Coco reminds me of an old proverb.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
While she's not truly gone, the things she's set in motion have truly changed the landscape.
Apparently, Coco had a hand in the screening process. This is why everyone in HoloMyth really looks up to her
Coco really is HoloEN's own Tokino Sora.
The girls' dream would not be possible without Coco championing for the EN branch.

I only remember the Minecraft hololive one. And how it keep joking about meet calli.
Now i remember, that's a video in foodxfood channel
Especially Tenchou who is the best boss in the world 🧡
Tenchou is really my all time Oshi too
Reminds me of that Gura tweet that saved a viewer from suicide. Look for the clip , i don't know it but should be able to find it.
Selen also replied to Ame after she did her charity stream, saying she was inspired to do a charity stream herself

Oh. I'm die. Thank you forever.

I just got into Hololive back in November but as a person from the outside looking in b4 I was a fan it blew my mind by how much attention myth got. N I think u said it best it was lighting in a bottle I don’t think we’ll see anything blow up like this ever again.

Not only did Cover found talented people with amazing voices, but they found people with excellent knowledge of the Internet and Japanese culture that love that culture just like their target audience.
as french, i agree with all your comment.
@@soasertsus Another funny example here is Space Dandy, where the EN dub was actually recorded and released before the JP dub xD
It was crazy seeing how Gura just skyrocketed to the very top in such short time.
Honestly HoloEN reignited my spark of content creator binge after HoloEN I started to enjoy more and more normal creator's
I do agree that the holomyth were really trying too hard back when they first debuted with the exception of ame. She's been kinda wacky from the very beginning and that doesn't change. Everyone else? Gura and ina seems a bit too shy, kiara try to be way too hyper, calli? I dunno, she's a bit cringy in the beginning.
well its not a secret anymore
Now this is some experience that I can personally relate to 👀
Wow i kind of agree, i really found calli trying to act cutesy and moe at first and after watching watson, which in turn just so weird and big brain debut, i noticed the change in the other four, its like ame opened their eyes to just be their own selves and it worked out so well, especially Calli.
Imo Kiara is the heart of EN Ame is more the brains of EN
@@sarethdarva she's said before that she'll always be streaming no matter what happens since it's something she loves doing. So she'll probably go indie if she graduates

Would be great as both entertainer and manager since much of the appeal is the research and experimentation involved.
@@Aereto yet another reason that the comparison between her and coco is so accurate!
Holomyth is just so good.. They are just so well balanced..
Hololives best feature is the community involvement. From fan artists to music producers, the community has had a huge effect in growing these girls persona. Just look at what Walifee did with Smol Ame and how much of an effect their little doodle did to enhance the content. The fan content is one of my favorite things about this genre.
Oh yeah. It was THE EVENT HORIZON FOR THOSE IN THE RABBIT HOLE!!
I really can't imagine anyone else performing as the characters in holomyth, they're perfect for their characters and as a group
I've recently fell down the rabbit hole and They've changed my life
It's funny how vtubing is also bridging the gap between weebs and normies.
Coco being Prometheus fits doubly since she was chained to a rock shortly after their debut.
The fact that everyone on myth got to 1mil subs too

If Kizuna is the queen of VTubing and essentially created VTubing
Sora - goddess of Hololive and the most seiso girl in the world, like a mother endured and raised her children
The HoloMyth is a great five, five friends, not only for each other, but for everyone who watches them. It is impossible to overestimate their contribution not only to the company, but to the world of VTubing
One day, they will all leave this stage. Unfortunately, this will happen. But trust me - in the Museum of the Internet, they will all stand side by side as equal great Legends.
All five of them made me finally fall down the rabbit hole and I regret nothing.
Well done. Short and nailed the relevant points on the impact that holoMyth brings to the VTuber scene.
What a time to be alive.
7:28 didn't even thought of that before. It makes sense that Ame is the leader of the group
Thanks for keeping the history, there's so many things I forgot about even though I was there for their debuts.
To be honest, i see kiara as the one who recieved the baton from a certain dragon
It's the interaction that is the charm imo, gura being the bait and meme factory, calli with the music, kiara for the fun vibes, ina when you want to rest and ame for the new gadgets and group fun.
Im smiling in the entire video 😄
Im not really in mood to watch VTubers for pretty long time now, but this lighten my mood and feeling that I now want to watch full streams in live again.
Whoever is in charge of picking the talents at Cover needs a fcking RAISE!! They're doing God's work.
This videos are very informative, really like them... Also while it does pays respects to all that needs to be respected is nice to... see the cheeky knowledgement (yes, we know xD)
Also absolutely good idea to have a video on Amelia Watson...
You can pair up any two members and you'll have gold
I think it was Calli who said that they didn't really have anyone to guide or help them when they debuted because there was a large gap between them & the JP branch.
I wake up tp a Nousagi video i watch
They did as well as they did partly because they're just that good, on their own and as a group, and partly because, in search of the ever-elusive Perfect Idol, Yagoo has become incredibly skilled at identifying those who can become even more radiant.
Kiara being a phoenix is also poetically accurate for her as a whole because...you know.
Hehe boi

11:56 That's true Cover really struck pure refined diamond, I started to notice this when Calli releases her songs after off with their head. I also saw the other girls as well and started to think "well holy crap Cover found good candidate among the western." Holomyth is a Power House in my Eyes.
God, I love that dumbass shark so much. Big gremlin energy while also being the most wholesome and loving being on the god damn planet.
Sensawa is a different breed. Our drunk gremlin who walk away from the heights of her career. LEGEND in the making.
5:03 there will never be a time when this term fails to crack me up
Ahh holomyth the myth of how something so simple yet so hard to achieve come true, a balance
Gura, the icon who will always make myth relevant and the best
Kiara, the unlimited vitality that will keep myth energy to its full potential in the beginning and whatever happen next
Calli, the musician that will keep myth spirit to music at its best as an idol group
Ina, the artist that will paint myth road to a success with pure loves and a lot of color to make its Pun to walk through
And Ame, the one who will be there for myth for whatever wall or obstacle it need to get pass through
I watched this video during the beginning of my freefall into the Hololive rabbit hole, and now I am watching it again a few months later.
7:04 My man, a fellow takodachi. And also she draw like a angel.
