what a race!!! this was an amazing fight between the best cars they built!! I own also a Capri mk1 and owned a e30 and e36. great race! The Capri driver was driving at the maximum limit. I know, the escort could be faster, but it was awesome! great driving skills from the ford mens :D

@@PROTEK123 no that's not correct, the duck tail design was created to also improve aerodynamics at high speed and make it more stable while reducing drag at high speed, the cars drag coefficient was much improved, it also had the benefit of disturbing the air of any cars following. This is why the also design one for the mk2 escort. Faster corners make faster laps but there's a fine line between the right amount and too much down force. And having owned 4 capri v6 and one v8, the ones with spoilers fitted at high speed were far more stable and top speeds were the same.

Great drive Gary; you were just outgunned in the straights by shear horsepower and crowded out in the corners. I used to run a 1974 Cologne Mercury Capri 2.8L bi-turbo that would get up to 185 mph in a straight without breathing hard -- just a total beast!. It handled much better in the corners than the one shown here though (it looks like Roger's got some horrible roll and sway going on and it was all he could do to hold her on the track). Under power, mine would sink down to the ground like a slot-racer and just hug the tarmac.
I grew up with an escort van. Put a 1600 in it with a cam better than a then Fortuna gt Fortuna,extractors ,a Lynx manifold and a 40 mm sidedraught dellorto.it was a sleeper, yet was always aware of belt driven assembly's,does it get better than that?
That cologne is probably the quickest car in a straight line on the track but doesn't have the handling of the BMW that has almost the same power. Love the sound of the scort though would take that any day over the others if only i could choose lol.

Currently building a 1/32 scale reproduction of that Escort for slotracing purposes. Awesome car to recreate. Just the looks alone. Sadly we can't have that manic soundtrack aswell when racing...
Superior handling, but with a power deficiency. Looks like the Capri used up all it's tyres. Seems odd that he doesn't blip the throttle on the down changes. Looked like it had good turn in, he had a good line coming on to the straight. Very entertaining.
ADRIAN If he is using a Ford trans (not a special race trans), there is no need. There probably aren't any synchros but bevelled gears or whatever. Certainly isn't the eco version LOL

You got em in the corners, just a bit more boost so they don’t walk you in the straights, or a lil better gearing and you got em. What a lil screamer! Great patients behind the wheel
MarchuxProductions I think it's the difference between mcpherson and dual control-arm captured spring. The mcpherson is good at cornering but at high speeds it needs modifications. The standard double arms is just much more stable through a larger speed band.

i think its the same block as the kent 1.3 only bored out to 1.4 or 1.6 im not sure but its the same layout
