    Daniel, Congrats on getting your car back and Happy New Year!. Our MY has been in the shop for 2 weeks out of the 2 months that we've had it. Its been in for 2 issues and we had to take the car back because they didn't really look deep enough into resolving the issues. The worst part is when we took the car back the last time, they kept the car for 5 days before even getting it into service. Completely agree that their communication desperately needs to improve. We didn't get a single call back from the SA since we dropped the car and I was calling them everyday. My M3P has a cracked window and they don't have appointments available to replace the windshield for 3+ weeks so I can't even risk longer drives. Tesla is back to having a parts issue and their current service infrastructure is not set up either resource wise or process wise to handle the growth. The people there, are terrific though, some of the hardest working and smartest people I've met. Th only thing that is going to change this dynamic is competition.

      Yuck! That doesn't sound fun at all! It seems like the Supercharger network has been scaled up to accommodate larger numbers of car sales which is great (I almost never see any full Supercharging sites) but I do wonder how Service is going to accommodate booming sales. Not having a car for some people is a lot more detrimental than not having some other consumer product in repair. This is going to be problematic as competitors with pre-existing and comprehensive service networks start producing competitive electric vehicles. Tesla is the only real player in the market at the moment which is good for them (excluding a couple other cars here and there) but that likely won't be the case in 3-5 years. The clock is ticking...

      @@goingelectric7826 Yeah, my wife is a frontline healthcare worker so the car is critical for daily visits. When we dropped her car off the first time, the SA told us they are short of loaners. We had an old Lexus with 250k miles prior to the MY but loved their service reliability. My wife told the SA that she'd rather go back to getting a gas car than put up with this.

      Ugh. That’s not enjoyable whatsoever. Tesla technology is currently better than almost any other EV manufacturer which justifies buying a Tesla, but their service isn’t in many cases. I’m not sure it’ll be possible for Tesla to launch into the mass market successfully without service and manufacturing quality taking a significant leap forward - and quickly.

    Glad you got your Model Y repaired and back. Every time I switch back to my Audi Q5 feels weird to drive so I know how you feel. We get very used to the driving experience in the Model Y and so, the reason why we love our EV. I've had a chance to take my Y on some highway runs to Ottawa and back to Toronto and by the time I reach Kingston, Ontario, must charge up again. Cold weather temps definitely reduce range up to 30%.

      I have to laugh at how I almost even feel dangerous when I switch from my Tesla into an ICE. “Hold on! I have to put the car in park before I open the door and get out?! And I have to hit the brake pedal if I want to stop at an intersection?!? Archaic!!” ;) And definitely, I look forward to my next electric car five years from now having significantly improved range without having to drive 35 miles an hour...

    My Y that I got Nov 9 is identical to yours -LR blue with 20inch wheels and white interior so have been eager to hear what happened to your Y. Thanks for these videos. I am retired so my Y sits in garage mostly with occasional short trips of 5 to 10 miles. After initially enjoying quick bursts of acceleration I now am mostly focused on efficient driving and maximizing watt hours per mile. I keep my Y plugged in (when not driving) to my nema 14-50 outlet and now charge to 70% thinking based on what I've heard that will result in best battery health and range. So my driving includes some highway where I drive maybe 60 or 65mph but mostly around my home at 30 to 45mph. With about 1700 total miles on my Y I just checked and my charge is at 72% with a range of 243miles so....if I charged to 100% which I have never done...my range would be about 316miles based on my mostly local driving. Thanks again for your very informative and entertaining videos...

Great range!!! 🤩 It’ll be nice when I make my way back home to San Francisco where I’ll be able to plug-in like most other electric vehicle owners and be less concerned about range on a daily basis. And I’ll also be able to gun it a lot more and not worry if I’ll be able to make it to the next Supercharger. Haha.

    Elon mentioned awhile back for Tesla to be able pre diagnose upcoming car issues and ahead of time order parts before the car breaking and notifying the owner ahead of time, but it seem like it took a back seat from Tesla team to fully implement this function. In regards to knowing your car location during a tow or a service in my experienced I always able to see the location of car even when the car is being serviced.

    I am led to believe that the improved range could be due to the repaired brakes. I own a model Y (49xxx VIN and September 2020 delivery) and typically I see about 230-300 WH/m in NJ winters....much higher (300-400) when the temperatures are in the 20s but it comes down after some extended period of driving. Sometimes I also drive in chill mode to keep the efficiency high (or battery consumption low). During summers I have seen the consumption go as low as 170-200 WH/mile....which is phenomenal. I have a MY LR with 19" gemini wheels. The brakes may have been causing a drag on the efficiency perhaps they were deployed/touching the rotors ... just a speculation as there was no software update in the last few months that caused an improvement in efficiency.

    • @goingelectric7826
      @goingelectric7826  3 роки тому +1

      I think you are right. The only other explanation I can think of would enter conspiracy territory where there was something wrong with either the battery or one of the electric motors which secretly got swapped out during my break repair and it was only coincidental that the increase in efficiency happened after the brake repair. I don’t think that’s terribly likely though but it’s a fun story to imagine. 🛌💭

    I’m sooo glad to hear about the pot of gold at the end of the trippy rainbow 🌈. Your fantastic Daniel for all of your videos and knowing where you come from in the tesla experience. For not having a vehicle for a long time and getting a tesla it’s a big adventure and you sharing your experience with this new age vehicle and all of its awesomeness and some quirks is great. I’m motivated from your trips to know that EV ownership is achievable and enjoyable (for the most part) 😊. You give me hope for my soon to be purchase. My take away is that the purchase of your tesla has been worth the minor setbacks, if that is what you may call them I’m not totally sure. Do correct me if I’m mistaken, but your smile after being back in blue lightning is telling of your appreciation of owning a tesla, and the miles you’ve put on thus far. Also one other compliment I have for your channel is your understanding of the kilowatt per mile calculations. Brilliant! It’s something I’m still trying to wrap my head around, and i really appreciate your breakdown of miles traveled with the kw and distance. Along with the metric conversions you offer in some of your videos. Us Americans should be observant of this because it is superior in calculating all measures of distance in relation to speed, distance, and time. Metrics are the way to go. Maybe we’ll try it again as a country sometime in the future. (Probably not but it would be nice)
    Thank you for the follow up video about getting your blue lightning back!

      It definitely has been a trippy rainbow. Ha! I think not having a car for nearly 3 decades has been kind of helpful because I don't have much to compare the car against other than various car rentals that I've had over the years. That can get a little problematic though like a couple days ago when I thought, "Aren't tires supposed to be rotated at some point??" Apparently I've driven about twice as far than what a manufacturer would recommend between tire rotations. I'll probably try to schedule that when I get to Miami next week. || And yes, the smile on my face when I got BlueLightning back was real: electric cars, and perhaps especially Teslas, just drive really well. It's nice to have it all back again. || As for kWh and all the rest, it's not something you really internalize until you're deep in it and NEED it to get from Point A to Point B. Once faced with arriving or NOT arriving, you internalize it all VERY QUICKLY! ;) Just this evening I have been spending some good mental time debating whether or not I'm OK arriving with a calculated battery charge of 8% given my current battery level on my drive tomorrow from Charleston, SC to Savannah, GA or if I'd rather take a 10 mile detour north of town in the opposite direction to fill up. Decisions decisions! The good news, however, is that my car is getting about a 20% improvement in efficiency/range/mileage since my assisted brake assembly replacement two weeks ago so I'm definitely going farther on a charge than I use to. Alright, until my next video!

    Excellent observations. I live in upstate NY and have not seen a 50 degree day in months so my watts/hr is 350 on a good day and that is with me taking off my 20” wheels/tire combination and putting on 19” Geminis with snows!

    • @goingelectric7826
      @goingelectric7826  3 роки тому +2

      Tesla would probably tell you you're getting 275Wh/mi. Ha! (Love ya, Tesla!) ;) I had thought about getting replacement 19" wheels which would be a waste of $2000, but I really like the 20" wheels so will keep 'em on and just keep my eye on range. For the bulk of the last 10,000 miles of travel I've generally estimated that I could reliably get 2.8 mi/kWh, with a usable capacity of 72kWh, and 3.1 on a super good day. Yesterday had me up around 3.7 at 65-75mph @ 50-60 degrees which was great. Since most of my driving is long distance, I'm keen to just figure out what reality is for my car on the highway. In the past, the range has varied significantly *even if* my driving style, speed and outside temperature and topography have not. Hopefully recent software updates have fixed any of the bugginess I had seen over the past couple months with range travel and charging time estimations. Interestingly, just before my car got towed, I did some fun tests in rural Mississippi at 40 and 35mph and I got some crazy good range so my next video will talk about that. Maybe by driving so slow for once, BlueLightning was able to get some additional datapoint to calculate his efficiency better?? The wacky world of electric cars and the wacky world of Tesla!

      Haha. I know right!! I actually thought about that yesterday morning when I was driving out to pick up the car because I was feeling somewhat ashamed about how mucky it was before it got towed. I had planned on washing it that morning but then the tow got in the way and everything else. So a little part of me had hoped that BlueLightning would be delivered fresh and clean on the outside. Alas, no. 😭 That said, I suppose it would be fair for Tesla to focus their resources on improving their basic systems of repair support rather than service luxuries, and I also imagine there’s some risk that some customers might freak out if someone washed their car or somehow allegedly scratched it during a wash. It’s probably a little safer for Tesla not to do that. But to have a touchless wash facility on site would be super swell. And Tesla must know by now that we Tesla owners (are dumb enough) to also pay a premium even for that kind of service. Haha. One of the service reps was kind enough to point me in the direction of a nearby touchless wash facility tho so that was cool. I actually had trouble finding touchless facilities throughout the South and often times go to a self wash facility, use the soapy water and my microfiber cloths myself. 🧼 🚙

      Haha. Poor Mitsubishi! I should consider switching to chill mode as well and running a couple tests. I was chuckling when I was chatting with Tesla Service while they were reviewing some of my charge/drive cycles to analyze my range/efficiency -- the data even includes the number of times you have high intensity gotcha-events like gunning it -- and it came back ZERO for me (on those days). As much as I would love to drive around like a maniac, if I'm going long distance I need to be really conscious of power consumption and range. But if a Chevy Impala or similar pulls up next to me and revs its engine, I can't let a challenge go un'honored. ;)

      It’s funny you mention that. I felt the same way when I was making the video last night. Un/fortunately I still have a day job that I had to reschedule yesterday into the late evening since driving down to Charlotte and picking up the car took all day; and then around those two big things I had to schedule in my video and photo review, video complication with cutaways, any sound effects, then the video production & final editing plus uploading, all of which I do on my phone. Eeek!! I tell ya, making these videos - as low budget and low production quality as they are - means I now have TOTAL respect for people who produce high quality/revenue generating videos. Interestingly, I actually shot something like an hour worth of video in total over the past two weeks on this topic but I tossed a lot out and then I just chopped chopped and chopped stuff out. At 18 minutes I felt it was still quite long but for the most part it was as long as it needed to be because I talked about quite a few relevant topics. For future videos that I have more time to produce I will certainly try to tighten them up and add additional cutaway images and video clips. The audio track is good but it’s true that we all need to be visually stimulated. 😍 Thanks for your feedback and I appreciate you watching! 🙏

Best of luck figuring out your life choices!" In such a case would I have flown home and then flown back?? You spent a lot of time driving in really cold weather and now it's 56 -- wouldn't that alone explain the better range?

    • @goingelectric7826
      @goingelectric7826  3 роки тому +3

      Certainly quite cold weather results in significant decreases in range. I have observed that myself and have verified that with people who own Teslas and live in very cold parts of the country. Typically people mention that their battery range is about 50% less than advertised in very cold weather. No problem there. The variation I have observed in my own range experiences have all occurred in the 50° to 75° range which as far as I understand is a more or less optimal temperature range for the battery to operate in and don’t include much additional drain on the battery from the HVAC system since usage would be a minimal. On some occasions last month in Texas I noticed my range was just particularly abysmal. Now the tricky part is: was my battery capacity actually diminished, or was my car simply less efficient, or was the software just not calculating efficiency and capacity correctly and therefore not correctly displaying to me reality? In the end, if I knew for certain that I could only get at least 200 miles out of a charge with average driving in average weather conditions at 65 miles an hour, then I could plan my distances accordingly even if the display were erroneously telling me I could not drive that far. That is not an ideal way to operate a vehicle but I could do it. However, the range calculations from yesterday seem to have corrected the weirdness that I was experiencing last month. Also last month I noticed some wackiness on the display numbers when it came to charging, especially when I would plug in the car at say 15% and then it would tell me it would only take 15 minutes to super charge and then it would hang. So I am hoping that recent software updates have corrected any potential bugginess in those range display numbers and that they match the actual range of the battery given its efficiency given environmental conditions and driving styles. 🙏
