You could be allergic to kiwi. My mom didn't know she was allergic to pineapple until a doctor told her the weird feeling she got in her mouth was an allergic reaction to the acid it has. I personally love both. BTW love the broccoli hair!!❤
Not saying she isn't allergic, but pineapple actually does create a weird mouth/tongue sensation for some people which isn't an allergy - it's a defense mechanism for the plant.
actually it isnt allergy , it leaves same feeling for me like feeling itchy or like burning feeling on my tongue but it isnt allergic i have checked what i have allergics on and deff not kiwi, doctor said its pretty normal so
The way I cried laughing at the end. It’s really did look like a sus situation, but you were just outside at night, crouched, trying to eat smelly canned fish 😂
Girl..... that surströmming should NOT look lite that 🤣🤣 it's fine bits of them in it! Your can was REALLY expired! You eat it on a knäckebröd or thinbread with butter, boiled potato, sourcream and read oninon! I personally do not eat it because of the smell, but people who eats it says that it doesn't taste as it smells. But your can was like dead and buried ☠️
That is like one of the nastiest things I have ever seen food wise. Something that is already considered very, uh, questionable in many parts of the world to begin with. And then it was expired too😭
Gurlll... when perishable food packaging is expanded or bloated looking, it's gone bad. Very rarely it's packed like that, but yeah, even fermented stuff shouldn't be like that
I lost my smell and taste for 3 days and I was so depressed that I lost 5 pounds because I just couldn't bring myself to eat. I even sprayed Lysol sanitizer on my door and stuck my face in it, with no effect or scent. After the third day, my husband was making curry and it was such an AMAZING surprise to walk into the home and smell food! I'm ok with no smell, but my loss of taste really brought me down. Give it time and you will be all the happier for when your senses are back!
the thing is, you can actually "taste" the spiciness because different from you other senses of taste (sweet, sour, bitter, salty, umami) which are perceived through your taste buds mainly on your tongue the "taste" of spiciness isn't! it's perceived through thermoceptors as heat which then activate a special type of receptor for pain (nociceptors) so technically spicy isn't a taste in that sense :D the more u know
In Germany we call La Fee a really... interesting... singer back in our teenage days which makes me wondering if she named herself after a strong alcohol? That wouldn't even be too weird tbh, based on her "style"
it can actually be really dangerous to eat old canned food because when it expires it can start to produce toxins that can be very harmful to your body. i hope you get your taste back soon! 💜
Some canned items will last a very long time without any recognizable change. For example, in this paper researchers describe the characteristics of some very old cans of food: a 40 year old can of corn, pickle relish found aboard the sunken U.S.S Monitor (sunk 1862), and several canned products from the steamboat, Bertrand (sunk 1865). The results prove that even foods canned using the earliest canning methods, like those pioneered by Bryan Donkin based on Nicholas Apperts processes (using glass) and Peter Durand’s patent, can stand the test of time.
I also lost my senses of taste and smell when I had covid back in July last year and it has been broken since. They‘re back but everything has a really weird taste and smell which is very unpleasant. I always loved to watch your food videos, because it kinda made me happy to see someone eating cool things and enjoying them, while I couldn’t do so. It is kinda depressing for me to watch you go through the same thing :(( I really hope it gets better for you!

Loved the video Naomi and wish you Gute Besserung! Just wanted to say (i have a Msc in Food Safety) - if cans look like that one (bloated or deformed) when they're sitting at home or if you've just bought them, it can be indicative of a badly sealed can or of bacterial proliferation in the can (even though canned foods are usually very sterile). Sometimes if they have fallen or have been badly sealed this can happen and the bacteria that proliferates in tin/can environments can be deadly (Clostridium botulinum) so just PSA: always be mindful of your cans :) I don't want to seem negative or anything, just think it's important to mention!
The thing is that cans with surstromming always look like that, always, because the fermentation goes on even after canning. This process makes it surstromming and not just a canned herring
Girl, u might be allergic to kiwis 😅 I learned when I was 17 that the weird feeling in my throat after eating kiwis and pineapples is actually my throat and tongue getting swollen lmao
Fun facts about the foods: For one, spice as in hot sauce causes pain, it's actually not a flavour. Also, theres a killer enzyme in kiwi just like in pineapple, that can destroy cells. That's why your mouth feels super weird after eating those fruit. Lastly, onion just like raddish or wasabi isnt hot like hot sauce is, it triggers your nose. BTW: one of the most funny and entertaining videos of yours ever 😂💜
I looooove this hair style on you!!! The bangs and longer hair is so pretty! Thank you for coming out with a very Naomi food video despite being sick not long ago❤ A lot of my friends aren't able to taste or smell after getting sick too. Some of them, after many months, were able to taste things faintly and some things more than others. These friends tend to pick foods based on what texture they feel like having that day instead of thinking so much about what they crave in flavors anymore, or having to rely on what memory they have about what the food tasted like when eating foods. One friend and I went to kbbq and I asked if it tastes good to her, and she said not exactly, but she KNOWS in her brain that it's supposed to taste really good so she still had a good time eating it. I hope everyone continues to stay safe even with the lifting mandates (in the US anyways) and that there will be some kind of treatment for those who have no sense or impaired sense of taste & smell that are proven to help.
I am from Sweden, surströmming is very good food in the summer, on a flatbread or knäckebröd, diced red onion, chive, sourcream and sliced boiled potato. There are several ways to eat it, lot of recepies on the internet 😅 but you opened it the ”correct” way (I open in the sink under water). Sending love from Sweden and hoping you get your taste back soooon! Love your videos and you! ❤️
I've heard a lot about ppl losing their tastebuds to the thing, but when I had it I lost my taste for a bit and then as it came back the way I tasted things was so different. Like cheerios tasted like cat food to me and then bananas tasted like soap. It was so weird, my taste still isn't 100% back and it's been almost a year...
I had this as well. I had corona in the beginning, when losing taste and smell was just discovered as a symptom. Somehow certain foods tasted strange. Coffee and chocolate didn't taste good, very earthy. Cucumbers and pickles tasted like they already had gone bad. Onion and garlic were too strong and intense in a bad way. So strange. It took me like 6 months to a year before everything was normal again. But I heard stories of people who would smell smoke or gasoline randomly until everything tasted of those smells. That sounds awful.
Yes! This exact thing happened to me, especially with meat and soda drinks which tasted and smelled really weird and repulsive (This made me feel like I'm a ghoul from the anime, Tokyo Ghoul). It took me months for things to taste things normally.
@@remochii omg same, especially with meat 😭, the taste was off so bad and the smell almost made me puke everytime I felt it, the weirdest thing about my smell/taste is that it came back after I've been on a d**g binge for like two weeks lmfao

Oh lord, so one time - the only time - I drank Absinthe, I was camping and the next day I woke up NAKED on the beach and there were people around, I was mortified, and had to gather my clothing from off the beach and half in the water (other swept away and lost in the lake) but once I gathered myself I went back to the campsite and everyone said how much of a riot I was, how I ran through a fire apparently and then went and skinny-dipped and ran across the whole campground nude. I actually don't remember ANY of it and I never drank it again. I can handle my alcohol well (when I used to drink) but this was a whole other level. We also did the spoon method with the sugar, apparently, you are to hallucinate with Absinthe this way. I have a bottle to this day, the Marylin Manson Absinthe, which I will never open - it just stands there in a display. But my god...don't ever do the spoon method, I was too wild and amazed I didn't kill myself or end up in the ER. Running through fire? I have long hair, like what was I thinking.
Absinthe doesn't actually cause hallucinations. I've had it many times and gotten completely trashed off it. Experts agree that any hallucinations people experienced from absinthe in history wasn't actually from the thujone in the wormwood, but due to methanol since they were essentially drinking low quality moonshine. You'd have to ingest a ridiculous amount to react to thujone, and you'd probably just go into convulsions instead of hallucinate.
@@JessieHTX Thank you for sharing what info you have about absinthe. I never said I had hallucinations though. But rather I got so intoxicated that I blacked out and went to the beach nude and had a very wild night. I just shared that method as it was something we did back then, this was also about 18 years ago.

first of all, as a swede im proud of you for trying surströmming lol and if you want to eat surströmming the right way you could start with not blending it with water🇸🇪❤️
my experience with covid taste loss was that i could sense "this is sweet" or sour or bitter or whatever. but i couldn't /taste/ it. it was like..... just eating a cookie and hearing someone tell me "it's sweet" in my ear. had no idea what the cookie tasted like, but i knew it was sweet. and all fruit ended up just tasting sour to me.
It’s the difference between taste and flavour! “Taste” is only for the 5 tastes - sweet, sour, bitter, salt, umami… we have specific receptors on our tongues for these 5 things, so e.g. they pick up “sweet” through presence of sugar; “umami” through presence of glutamate. The thing that is lost with what you describe is “flavour”, and this actually is perceived via something called retronasal olfaction, which is just a fancy word for smell but through the back of our nose via our mouth instead 😆 this is what you lost, you still had your taste buds picking up sugars, salt etc. but had no flavour beyond that. :)
That "sooooo many booooones" she sounded like an old witch melting🤣🤣🤣🤣 that whole part with the can..the chaotic opening, the splatters, and the eating portion just comedic gold.hahaha
Hey Naomi! Green kiwi also makes my tongue feel all weird (so does fresh pineapple but I’m not giving that up..) but yellow kiwi is all good, it’s less acidic and heaps sweeter. If it’s available to you you should definitely try it!
Surströmming is usually a midsummer dish. We eat it with either thin knäckebröd or flatbread and then sourcream, onions and cooked potatoes and make a sandwich style dish out of it ☺️ and alcohol pairs well with it either spirits like vodka or beer.
If you want to taste back you actually can do taste therapy which you use smells that correspond with what you're eating, try to imagine what it used to taste like.

So many people think kiwi like burns or something and it turns out they have an allergy to it and thats why they’re so sensitive to it😅
That's exactly what I thought.
Yeah 😂 I always thought strawberry and kiwi just burn and feel like prickly cacti in everyone’s mouth, but turns out I’m allergic 😂😂
I can confirm that as someone who is allergic to them 🥲😭😶
noooo whaaaat 😭
but nothing can stop me from eating kiwi 😾
It makes my mouth feel a little weird. Perhaps a slight allergy. Or it just does that, but I like kiwi too much to not eat it

The magnitude of bingeing I've been doing of your videos is insane. I've been following you for a while now, but I had never gone back to watch old videos that much...until recently!! Am obsessed. Thank you for making our days that much brighter, funnier, weirder and just simply more amazing. You're fab.
I lost my taste and smell 100% a few months ago and it was beyond depressing! It just all of a sudden came back after a week in the middle of the day. That was one of the happiest moments of my life honestly 😂

It's the best way to eat kiwi?! The skin is slightly sour and mixes well with the soft and sweet interior. Fuzzy skin provides a nice texture too.

Hi! just wanted to say that in my English class i needed to write about someone who i look up to and that inspired me, and the first person that came to my mind was you so i wrote about you and stuff my teacher googled you up and she even said "she's beautiful"

as a swede I honestly don't think surströmming is that bad, it literally just tastes like salt and you usually eat it on bread with potatoes, tomatoes, sour cream, onion and dill
Also a swede here, my boyfriend eats it a few times a year. You also kind of take small pieces of fish so with every bite its a small amount of fish
Aldrig smakat det själv men jag gillar inte ens sill så hehe fel person att fråga I guess 😅. Men ja det ska ju typ ätas på hårt bröd med potatis och andra tillbehör.

You could be allergic to kiwi. My mom didn't know she was allergic to pineapple until a doctor told her the weird feeling she got in her mouth was an allergic reaction to the acid it has. I personally love both. BTW love the broccoli hair!!❤
I thought bananas were suppose to make your mouth feel raw like you ate a bag of sour candy 😅 turns out I’m allergic
Not saying she isn't allergic, but pineapple actually does create a weird mouth/tongue sensation for some people which isn't an allergy - it's a defense mechanism for the plant.
@@hybridkoala that happens to me lol

The herring in a can part was just as hilarious as I remembered it being almost an entire year later, there's tears streaming down my face rn
And then it was expired too😭
knäckebröd is called Knäckebrot in German, I think that's funny :D
It’s also supposed to be stored cold, in a refrigerator.. my bet is she didn’t have it stored right as well - of course it’s gone bad lol
Idk why but i feel like she could be like a Monster High doll in this outift 😂

why don't I find more people talking about this, the fact she kept that in the video is hilarious to me
Gurlll... when perishable food packaging is expanded or bloated looking, it's gone bad. Very rarely it's packed like that, but yeah, even fermented stuff shouldn't be like that
Never ever eat bloated can food. Microorganism (clostridia,..) in there produced toxins. Could potentially even kill you.
I literally freaked out when she pulled out the bloated can!!
one of my fav looks you ever did! so fairycore 🧚🏼
Aww I'm so happy for you ❤️
the thing is, you can actually "taste" the spiciness because different from you other senses of taste (sweet, sour, bitter, salty, umami) which are perceived through your taste buds mainly on your tongue the "taste" of spiciness isn't! it's perceived through thermoceptors as heat which then activate a special type of receptor for pain (nociceptors) so technically spicy isn't a taste in that sense :D the more u know

I was looking foto this comment, My mom usted to tell me to never Buy cons that are bummpy cuz bacteria grow causes gases
@@anita9682 that dish is always in bumpy cans because of fermentation
Some canned items will last a very long time without any recognizable change. For example, in this paper researchers describe the characteristics of some very old cans of food: a 40 year old can of corn, pickle relish found aboard the sunken U.S.S Monitor (sunk 1862), and several canned products from the steamboat, Bertrand (sunk 1865). The results prove that even foods canned using the earliest canning methods, like those pioneered by Bryan Donkin based on Nicholas Apperts processes (using glass) and Peter Durand’s patent, can stand the test of time.
@@Janae2000 New it could last long time....I now realise where my dad's saying "canned food cam last the test of time" came from now lol.

Yes! Botulism is no joke 😬
The thing is that cans with surstromming always look like that, always, because the fermentation goes on even after canning. This process makes it surstromming and not just a canned herring

Thank you for coming out with a very Naomi food video despite being sick not long ago❤
A lot of my friends aren't able to taste or smell after getting sick too.

Me too! All Pepsi and Coke tasted like dirt to me 🤣
Yes! This exact thing happened to me, especially with meat and soda drinks which tasted and smelled really weird and repulsive (This made me feel like I'm a ghoul from the anime, Tokyo Ghoul). It took me months for things to taste things normally.

I have long hair, like what was I thinking.
that sounds terrifying lol
@@karly.asshhh Oh it was a time and a half, let me tell you.
But rather I got so intoxicated that I blacked out and went to the beach nude and had a very wild night. my experience with covid taste loss was that i could sense "this is sweet" or sour or bitter or whatever. but i couldn't /taste/ it. it was like..... just eating a cookie and hearing someone tell me "it's sweet" in my ear. had no idea what the cookie tasted like, but i knew it was sweet. and all fruit ended up just tasting sour to me.
Thats it!!!!
