    One thing about all of the Cosmos, which we have a lot of, is that it freely reseeds itself and each spring new plants emerge from the over wintered seeds. Even if the bed is disturbed by digging in new compost or amendments, the Cosmos seeds still germinate and grow healthy.

    Thank you for showing things that have gone to seed. My experience this year too. I started to think of it as a failure, but we’ve had more than enough food so in reality it’s just a learning curve.

    Expect your pole beans to get really, really tall. For a while I lived on the ground floor of a 3 story apartment building and grew Kentucky Blue pole beans in a large planter box for a privacy screen on the back patio. We had one plant that made it half way up the railing on the third floor before fall die back.

    Hi Huw I just found your channel and enjoy it immensly. Your heritage blue peas at 20:30 are quite popular here in the Netherlands. They're mostly sold dried, rehydrated and overcooked in cans, but fresh they taste much better. If you expect them to taste like peas you will be disappointed, because they're not as sweet. I usually ad them to stirfries or a veggy omelet. If you eat meat, you can fry them with onion and bacon.

    That's so annoying when you suddenly lose a plant that's growing well! We had that happen with two of our Summer Squash/Courgettes this year, but manage to root and re-plant the tops of each plant! We were quite surprised it worked, so made videos of the process for our UA-cam Channel. We also re-planted seeds, but the tops yielded fruit much quicker!

    Interesting change, how will it effect productivity? You are lucky in having so much prime growing space. I’m restricted to about 150 sq feet of beds, will be growing in fabric grow bags and pots to extend growing area and grab some full sun locations. I love your leek planting setup, do you have it explained in a video? It’s how you set up/plant the seed bed -where the leek seedlings are all in tight bunches, that I can’t figure out, you showed the second part in a video. Love your videos

    Interesting you don't grow onion from seed because of the extra fuss. I would never bother growing them any other way now as I find I get bigger healthier plants. I find it the best fuss free way to do it. I direct multisow them and don't have to do anything to them other than the usual things like watering and feeding. I always get a great germination rate. No need to waste time growing them first in module or anything and plant out then wait til they get over transplant shock. I just direct sow the seed and leave them to do their thing.

    Very Interesting you have the same issue with the yellow courgette variety. I have in the same bed a yellow and a white variety and the yellow it’s becoming yellow as the leafs grow. I though was bad nutrition or too much water (Lot of rain this year in Somerset). But the white courgette is very big, green and healthy, both courgettes are producing fruit so I’m happy anyway. No signs of pest or deseases. Would be great if you found out what’s the issue with yellow courgettes as I didn’t find anything in internet. Thanks for your videos!!!

My garden has a little more space but I still have two plants with only male flowers and a very poor harvest from my other plants. No more than two courgettes from each other plant. I’d like to know your experience.

    I noticed you have bunches of nasturtium growing here and there. Do you ever use those in a salad, or eaten in any other way? I planted climbing nasturtium late, and just waiting on them to take off (they are only about 2 feet tall currently). Also, I took your advice and planted a patch of Jerusalem artichoke / sunchoke (planted 20, of which 19 made it, not sure what happened to that last tuber). Those sunchokes are going absolutely crazy! They are already about 9 feet tall, with an abundance of new stems, and have taken over the bed they were planted in (haha, I thought I'd be able to grow some dill in between the two rows, but that poor dill never had a chance.)

      Yeah you're a bit late for courgettes now, but you can start sowing for autumn and winter harvests: non-hearting lettuces, spinach, chard, beets, swedes, kholrabi, winter kale, asian greens like pakchoi and tatsoi, as well as mustards, and radishes, and you could even sow peas for shoots (for salads)

      @@seraaron I just saw this now! Thank you! :) Would it be too late now for those listed?

      @@a.b.1184 Pushing it for some, I'VR already made my last sowings for August. But that included: pak choi, kohl rabi, purslane, corn salad / lamb's lettuce, spinach, coriander, sorrel, beetroot, claytonia, sweet cicely, good king henry, and radish. It's a bit early but you can also start looking for garlic bulbs to plant for harvest next summer. You also might still have time to sow some quick cropping carrots

    I wish most of that would grow up north in a heavy soil.

    "Lovely smell of coriander" flower? Each to their own i suppose. I find the smell a bit strong

    • @milipwn
      @milipwn 3 роки тому

      aphids and thrips really dont like the smell either, i put the fan we have in our pollytunnel 50cm before the flowering coriander plant, and it really keeps them out of the space,: edit, the plant is about 250+cm height at this time of year and will just come back next year, the longer we let it flower the bigger the plant will be next year, so i keep it flowering untill its all stem i tie all the stems together so they stay straight. always grow a 2nd coriander plant outside during summer for actually harvesting the leaves. also great to create shade in a greenhouse/pollytunnel
