I’m a veterinarian, and recently had a client who repetitively referred to his dog with a “they” pronoun. The dog had a vulva, so I repetitively referred to her as “she”. It made for a very uncomfortable conversation.

I absolutely hate the trend of Mental Illness is my identity. I have ADHD for most of my life. And the problem with this illness is that it affects every aspect of your life. OMG... Thank you, Sydney. I was diagnosed nearly 6 years ago with Atypical Autism. I only got diagnosed because I noticed that my social behaviour was abnormal and I didn't know how to respond to people. Properly. Not to mention a slew of other problems that are not relevant.
Anyways the reason I am saying thank you is because I've been really resentful of the term "neurodivegent"... Being autistic is not a super power. Omg samee!! I found out a year ago at the age of 27 that I have Asperger’s. It was so obvious, that I wonder how neither my parents nor I ever noticed that it was autism. I mean we knew for sure that I was different but we just taught that I was.. let’s say „unique“ (my siblings use the word „weird“ lol). But I have to say My autism comes with a lot of positive that I’m very proud of and happy with. BUT it also comes with a lot of negative that really has been making my life very hard and caused a lot of CPTSD. It’s def not all sparkles and rainbows and the world doesn’t revolve around us. The community often romanticizes autism and use it as an excuse for bad behavior. I feel like it has kind of a narcissistic approach to it. And that goes unfortunately for most „small groups“ (LGBTQ+, plus size, races, sexes, etc). It’s not about spreading awareness and equity anymore but more about making everything cater to that specific group.

Sadly, you're right. The difference in how I was raised vs my slblings who are 10+ years younger is.. definitely something. I would have never been allowed to act the way they did in public and it got to the point I started staying home because my sisters and brother were allowed to lay on the ground and scream, throw things, break things etc. in public. It was embarrassing and I wanted ZERO part in it.

Objectively speaking, Nemo’s winning song is phenomenal- his vocal ability is so impressive, the composition is stunning, and the musical dynamics are so innovative. It was pretty revolutionary. I’d like to believe he won on merit.

I recently found out one of my colleagues is trans. Have known her for years, didn't realise her background because she doesn't make it a big deal or a part of her identity. I feel for trans/gay people who are just quietly living their life and get associated with all this nonsense.

I had a coworker whose niece came out as trans and lives completely normally and doesn't do anything different than any other person and doesn't need to call attention to it either. They weren't stirring crap with people for no reason and just were doing their own thing as a truck driver. The difference is that people who just do their own thing and live normal lives aren't plastered on the media.
