This was the answer that I was seeking from you. Your whole life dealing with medical complications and playing video games to take your mind off the pain. Growing up with these franchises that you have come to love so much-and to then see it be disfigured beyond recognition. I can now understand why you sounded so angry and upset whenever you refer to the meta-era Sonic games, especially when it gave me mixed signals that you have come to detest this franchise, and have been capitalizing on the hate and ridicule because you may have lost all faith in it-which was giving me the impression that you were turning into a grifter. You were angry, and rightfully so, because you loved this franchise so much, the fact that it brought most of us pain is evident of that. But for this video, your experience with Frontiers; from my observation there is a lot of psychological baggage you are carrying when it comes to anticipation and expectation, whilst other gamers (including me) are unbothered by stuff that you have issue with-like Amy’s story, for example. Overall, I’m so glad that you wore your heart on your sleeve throughout this video, and that you ended up enjoying this game. I too am anxious for the updates on the Frontiers 2023 Roadmap, and all I can say as a cautionary prescription is to keep open dialogue with Sonic Team and SEGA. Like paramount, they are listening like never before, and it would make my next year to see you happy as I was when I played and finished this game.

Amy serves as a foil to sonics desire for immediate action. Her desire to reunite two coco that are implied to be the remnants of a loving couple from the ancients shows that she is willing to slow down and pay attention to what many others might disregard as silly given the current circumstances. Sonic himself does this yet it is this quest that causes a chaos emerald to later manifest (one that wasn’t sealed in a vault) showing that no small amount of kindness goes unrewarded.
Amy’s willingness to value the cocos plight is something sonic himself will later repeat across the other isles. It’s a cute lesson. I don’t find Amy to be patronizing at all, more of a soft spoken guide showing sonic where his blind spots are when he is in save the day mode.
I've always struggles to put my love for Sonic into words, and I think the end of this video captures so many people's feelings perfectly. Sonic as a character is so inspiring, and the games can reach such high highs, and I think that's what keeps us coming back.
I feel like the reason Amy came off as awkward was because it was awkward, since all the games are now a continuous timeline Amy had a phase where she just fangled over sonic a lot. So as an older more mature person she's looking back and cringing (just like we all do), but she still loves Sonic so she's in this awkward position were she feels awkward when she feels her feelings towards sonic and lashes out. Or at least that's my best guess.
P.S. knight was harder than the final boss, and Sage is definitely one of my top 3 favorite sonic characters
One Way Dream is actually a direct message from Sonic Team to the fans according to Tomoya Ohtani. It does seem that a lot of the lyrical songs in the game have a double meaning though.
So I’m PRETTY sure Chaos is still a mutated Chao. Eggman says in one of the Egg Memos that the Ancients themselves were mutated by the emeralds over time. I guess overexposure to Chaos Emeralds just turns you into a water monster 😂
EDIT: so Ian Flynn confirmed on his podcast that the emeralds caused the ancients to gradually evolve into the Chao after they left the Starfall Islands and that Chaos is still a mutated Chao. Guess we all had that wrong 😅
Chaos energy can be terrifying.
He also says that they share DNA. I'm thinking chaos is one of those that stayed to guard the master emerald
It may be that Chao are mutated Ancients, then the chaos chao are ones that have been made to be more like how they once were

They should have made that more apparent. Without clarification it just looks silly.
I'm sure this is known by now but it bears repeating. The Japanese script actually goes out of its way to make that distinction. Why it isn't in the English script I have no idea.

I also feel like the facial expressions Sonic has throughout his conversations with Tails do a LOT of work in carrying that. He looks so soft and affectionate every time Tails isn't looking at him, like a big brother who's seen his little bro growing up and becoming an adult, someone to be incredibly proud of.
26:35 I love this part, I love how he gets scared when Knuckles almost punches him. He remembers what happened.
The Chao are all that's left of the Ancients, hence why a mutated one turns into Chaos!
39:33 so basically some of the ancients took the chaos emeralds to angel island were the master emerald resided and they stayed to protect them but over time the master emerald mutated the ancients dna to the point were they became the chao then one day one of the chao got too close to the master emerald and re evolved back into one of the ancients but with some left over chao dna hence why chaos has a chao like tail and brain

Great vid dude. While I didn't deal with medical issues when I was younger, I dealt with alot of other issues. Having sonic and other franchises that I love to this day kept me going.

Sonic Frontiers definitely has brought Sonic back for sure. Granted, the Open Zone formula still needs a lot of refinement. But I’m sure Sonic Team will keep improving it and give us a better Sonic game than Frontiers.
The most important part was getting the foundation set and having people be happy with that foundation. Now hopefully they'll feel confident enough to build on it and I think the dlc is so they can make assets for Tails, Knuckles, and Amy so they can insert them as playable charachters into the next game more easily.
When I finished my first gameplay of sonic frontiers and I saw Sage sacrifice herself At that point I already like felt emotionally attached, and after I beat the game, I literally went to search if there was like a second ending to see it if I could manage to save sage. Sadly, I couldn’t was so sad I basically almost cried.
Guessing you missed the ending where Eggman literally brings her back after the credits so the emotional impact wasn't even allowed to linger for very long if at all.
Now you know how everyone who played FFVII in 1997 felt at the end of the first disc.

I hope this means Sega is finally going to give the franchise the respect it deserves again and stop rushing them. If so, well, then the next game is going to blow even this one out of the water
40:06 Chaos is still a mutated chao. The chao are descendants of the Ancients. Powerful characters exist in relation to the chaos emeralds because while they were from another planet, they've since been on earth for a VERY long time.
As for the Black Arms knowing about the emeralds (but seemingly not the Master Emerald) and Black Doom being able to use chaos control? I might be veering too close to the origins of the Cybermen from Doctor Who but... When the Ancients' planet was destroyed, the End did so by shooting a laser through the planet's equator. While everyone left behind was definitely doomed, the poles of the planet were the farthest away from the attack, so the Ancients there could've survived even if for only a few minutes. Since the Ancients knew about the End long enough to even consider an evacuation, what if those left behind, scared and desperate, found ANOTHER way to survive, and over the centuries became unrecognizable, as the Black Arms?
hi garrulous, im also someone who got diagnosed with chrons as a child and that part at the end really hit me. im 18 atm and turning 19 in march and mario n sonic were my biggest time killers when i was stuck in the hospital, or even at home missing a day of school because of the terrible flareups or joint pains, i really feel like i can relate to one of my favourite sonictubers or just youtubers in general, hope you have a good one and what a wonderful review!

This is the second Frontiers review I’ve seen that ended on an emotional series montage backed up by awesome music, and dang it you both got me crying. And to think this game isn’t even over yet and we still have an entire year of new content coming too? God this game has done so much good. Thank you for an amazing video.
in the end when you mentioned "Breaking through it all" for me it was "I'm Here". And it got me thinking that the game and the devs were saying, that this good change and love done with this game is finally here. What the fans wanted, something good, has arrived and it's throwing itself in your face.
I'm not gonna lie: Your ending speech about what these old gaming franchises meant to you and your medical conditions nearly brought me to tears due to how genuine your struggles were. I could just tell by your voice that you were holding back so hard from crying and trying to keep it all together. I genuinely feel bad about what you went through, but I'm glad that you could get through all of that pain with these older games that you hold near and dear to your heart. Even if they're fictional, sometimes you need someone by your side to get you through tough times like Crash and Sonic.
Anyway, I'm so glad I got to play Sonic Frontiers as it gives me so much hope for Sonic's future. Thank you Sega, thank you Sonic Team, and especially thank you Ian Flynn for bringing back the characters we love so much.

i legit cried, hearing your interpertations about this game and the way you bought up the lyrics in break through it all, i'll admit i only recently became a sonic fan, i don't have a lot of the nostalgia for the adventure games or the classic era, in the past i only begrudgingly played the secret rings and when i failed to get through wave ocean constantly in sonic 06 i traded it off for a halo game that broke after less than a week, and the friend i traded games with moved so i couldn't get sonic 06 back. now that i've played forces, i played some of sonic origins (which proves to me that im bad at 2-d sonic games) i purchased both the adventure games, i played through heroes a 2nd time and actually beat it, i bought the divisive shadow the hedgehog game and enjoyed it. i played the DS version of Sonic Colors, gah! i could go on forever about my experiences with this franchise, sonic is one of my favorite series of all time now, and the fact that the titans heavily resemble aspects of Perfect Chaos is just amazing, Sonic faced down the literal END of everything, and he won. not only that, but im not on twitter, so your reveal of the 2023 road map just made my hear flutter, going into the game i was convinced that after each island you would unlock another character, but i gotta say i love the unique interactions that sonic gets to have with each character. even with the flaws that you pointed out, and i agree about the cyber corruption, this is still a massive step forward. i know one of my gripes was the lack of a spin dash, only having the drop dash. but the rest of the game is just so good. did you know that the 4th island is just part of the 1st island, you can see the top of the waterfall and everything, one of the towers is in the center of giganto's arena! it blew my mind when i noticed that. i personally can't wait to see the next sonic game. and i can't wait to see your next sonic video and other videos that aren't sonic because you do a lot of things. also, member of the secret club. and a third also, thanks for making fun videos that i can enjoy, and thanks for going through this huge wall of text. you're awesome Garrulous.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this game so much, it's really nice to see people enjoying a new release for a sonic game again it gets me pretty emotional but I hope they put out some good stuff with the next game and upcoming updates and that you enjoy them too. great vid garrulous
I feel like Amy was the worst one when it came to being effected by Cyberspace. I feel like her memories and emotions aren't fully in tact, that's why I saw the push and pull, she's struggling worse than everyone else
One way dream has been said my sonic team to be a message directly from them. Honestly seeing the lyrics after that make me feel so hopeful.
I can’t believe that the sonic twister wasn’t lying when they said “everything is canon”
Frontiers as an experience was something I needed from the series, no more shitty jokes every minute and no half arsed writing. It was so refreshing to have a competently written story with competently written characters interacting with each other in a well crafted world with well crafted gameplay. Honestly my only few gripes are have are small, I do think Sonic's corruption was a bit poorly done, to have this build up only to be freed by a friendship ring, could have done something like his friends manage to claw him back from this corrupt state, but only just, so sonic still has to deal with his physical form glitching out and the extreme pain he was in which is eluded to in cut dialogue. The end boss fight was crap though, maybe it would have been fine as a first phase if it lead into an absolutely bombastic titan like second phase were you played as super sonic or a corrupted super form. That being said this has to be one of my favourite entries in the series.
A detail I enjoy is just before Sonic and Knuckles part ways on the second island Knuckles throws a punch at Sonic but stopping before making contact. Super Sonic flinches. Because Sonic 3 established that Knuckles can smack the Super out of Sonic.

That final part hit hard, almost as much as the game itself. Every memory i had of the dreamcast/2000s sonic came thru. I teared up just remembering the sonic i knew and im so glad he's back.
I still can't believe Ian Flynn turned Tails' character inconsistencies into a character arc
If I were to have a nickel for everytime that Ian Flynn wrote a story about Sonic getting overcome with some strange corruption as his friends worry for his health, I'd have two nickels. It's not much, but it is weird that it happened twice.
(Seriously though, comparing the Metal Virus to the Frontier Corruption really sets the stage for the missed potential it had, which is entirely a problem with the pacing for it in Frontiers. Though, with how much SEGA rushed Sonic Team, I can see how this led to the conclusion being so suddenly rushed by the end point.)
This game did more then "ave" then franchise the 2nd time since Unleashed, but for once *ACTUALLY* listened to the fans and slowly gaining redemption for once In forever!
Chaos predates The Ancients. And the way the cutscenes are arranged seems to imply that they took a giant loop.

High key I was excited to hear your thoughts on this one probably most of all given all the story and lore integration. As a long time Sonic fan myself, after finishing Frontiers, I was so happy to have so little to be disappointed in, namely the last 30 minutes or so.
I'm hoping they play off Sonic not really reacting to Sage's sacrifice, have it make Eggman even more bitter towards him like "you always save everyone, but the one time its someone important to me you let her die and just run off back to your friends like nothing happened." Have him use it to convince Sage of his beliefs about Sonic, meaning she can stick around by his side as a Villain.
The End is just the biggest wet fart. Supreme is defo the weakest titan fight, but to then folllw it up with a minigame is a really bad 1-2 punch. They've come out and said it was time constraints and they wanted to make the best of their limited time at that point, and thats fair, but it just doesn't wash. It also doesn't help that this unspeakable cosmic horror, who Sonic Team describe as this universe's embodiment kf death, is a big purple moon, After all these cool giant robots we fight for 20 hours. They've tried to say "thats just what the player sees, everyone views death differently, so we don't know what Sonic and Sage saw the end as" but surely there had to have been something else they could have done??
All that aside, to not have to think, "this is ok, and next time might even be good!' Was so refreshing when all was said and done. Frontiers made me feel things towards the series I haven't properly felt since unleashed, it's a turnaround in the grandest way possible and rights so much that was defiled over the past decade, and for the first time in a very long time I feel like I can trust Sonic Team with what comes next,
And that feels bloody wonderful.
At least "The End" wasn't complete. It was stated by Sage it hadn't had the time to heal itself and fully form. You get it when it's at its weakest.
@@insertname7397 the way she says “it’s fleeing to space to regain its true form” though I thought implied that the moon is its real form, yeah it’s not at full power but it’s still a very flimsy reason for such a plain design. I guess there is some merit to it being so straightforward compared to the titans because of what it represents, it’s not some grand defender built to save a planet it’s just “death” plain and simple. Just wish something else could have been done
@@Hobhunks That's fair to wish that. I'll moreso say in its defense think something like majin buu? Eggshaped and round before he was finally released.
Multiple other things have "egg" shaped forms and I think it's seen more as a moon because of its size. I feel like the round shape is more of a waiting to be hatched/gather state rather than its form literally being a planetary body whether that be moon planet star black hole etc.
When I saw Tails, Amy and Knuckles helped out Sonic with corruption I got Shantae half genie hero vibes with Sky, Bolo and Rottytops helping Shantae with the dark magic. You can go along way if you haves on your side.
I've played Sonic my whole life. I had a game gear and would play Sonic 2 on it a good bit (that thing took 6 double A batteries... good grief.) But I really grew up loving Sonic Adventure-era. Man, this game made me feel like a kid again. Any time any sort of game/comic/movie does that, it's just a great feeling. I'm also a huge Chaos fan, so seeing these "Ancient" creatures was so cool. Chaos/Knuckles are my favorite... so cool to see Ian Flynn absolutely slaying with the story. I gotta catch up on more of the comics. Loved the Metal Virus arc. Great video. Great Sonic video game. And the OST is absolute fire.
My most favorite character used to be metal sonic but nowadays it's sage & when she died i cried until eggman activated her back-up

The songs that got to me the most were Find Your Flame and Undefeatable. As someone who constantly has trouble pushing their limits they help me feel that hype and excitement that encourages me to do that

I am so happy that sonic team has finally come back with a very well reviewed game for 3d modern sonic, because being a sonic fan especially after forces is pretty hard. The source of sonic media that has kept me loving the series was the idw comics, some Archie, old games, and your content. Sonic will always have a special place in my heart and I'm happy to hear that it is the same in yours and many others around the world!!! I hope that the future of sonic keeps going strong throughout the years and that we get much more quality content. I look forward to your videos on the DLC and others. Please don't lose your love for sonic ever!
I like Sonic Frontiers so much because it feels like a story more than a game, that may be weird for some people but I love it.
Edit: Tails, Knuckles, and Amy do take on the corruption because they disappear after Sonic has the ability to move again, so they trapped themselves in cyberspace to save Sonic.
I related a lot to basically everything you said in this video, sonic as a series means so much to me and playing this game through for the first time was just phenomenal and touching. Its far from a perfect game, its definetly flawed in places but goddamit it felt like reuniting with an old friend again. just beautiful. Also, in regards to what you said about breaking through it all sounding like sonic team speaking through it, ohttani (the main music guy) said in an interview that one way dream was a message from sonic team, so i wouldln't be suprised ^^' this game made me feel proud to be a sonic fan, and im ecstatic to see what's awaiting us on the horizon ^^
I really hope that SEGA is going to pull a Shantae Friends To The End on us and change the main story with the third DLC wave to be about Knuckles, Tails and Amy saving Sonic from his corruption. Think the desperate search for the Chaos Emeralds in 06's ending but an entire DLC campaign.
Dude, you managed to explain why the references are there perfectly, and thankfully in a way that doesn't come off as insulting the writing or acting like the references are all a bad thing(still don't get how people think that). It especially makes me happy that you've found some joy in Sonic again.
Honestly it’s not terrible in isolation, but Ian loves references so much that he’ll shove them where they don’t belong if a good opportunity doesn’t come up, so it’s better to discourage him from using them if at all possible.

The mentioning of Sticks and that Tangle charachter has me very optimistic for Cosmo now. Because she falls into the same category as those two and she was such a good charachter, as well as contributing to some of the best development Tails ever got.

Easter Eggs would be cool long as they aren't forcing the characters into the canon under the pretense of them always being there. The Tangle and Sticks reference bugs me to no end because of that.
@@aerostrafe1075 well to be fair, sticks appeared in the olympic games games so she gets a pass imo, including the sonic only mobile game. which seeing as mobile games are canon since the reason wisps never left is because some of them liked sonic's planet so much. As for Tangle, it seems like a thing because of how sonic comics happened DIRECTLY after sonic forces.
@@stanzacosmi Sounds like that weird sonic team logic of saying everything is canon thus making everything that much tougher to follow and gives me less reason to invest in any single thing.
I don't count olympic side games as canon since you can do anything. I will never see Sonic comics continuity and game continuity as one thing together. They're too different to justify being in one universe together. I'll go play Kingdom Hearts if I want to deal with a story where I gotta follow side games, mobile games, web games, and a phone app to follow along.
edit: I did check into it just because I was curious. The Sonic Forces event you are stating from IDW comics is not the same thing as what happened in Sonic Forces. The Eggman War event is based on the events from Sonic Forces but does its own thing with it as a basis. It is not serving as some kind of bridge between games as the Eggman War arc leads into introducing Neo Metal Sonic for the second time.
Ian Flynn even went on to say because Sega owns IDW comics that he can pick and choose what to make as canon even if it creates confusion for the audience. >.> He doesn't have to bother introducing a character since he can just lean on the comic book crutch argument.

I wish the bosses had more greek names to go with the islands. The End could've just been named Telos, greek for end, and I'd be happy.
39:40: Well..Therse are more theories than pure confirmations but in one of the final cutscenes, The Ancients say that some of them have taken the Chaos Emeralds to Angel Island where the Master Emerald is
Most likely, living close to the Master Emerald caused some form of radiation (as theorised by Eggman in one of his logs) that turned them into chaos, though it is unknown if one of them remained to stay as Chaos or if one of them evolved into a chao and evolved back into Chaos
And the who knows why the characters are so in tune with the emeralds, but there's no limit to who can use em. Some people are probably better than others naturaly. Though Sonic has been exposed to the emeralds in the past, so he became better and better at using them
Watched the whole thing, and I agree with everything you said about the gameplay, story and mechanics. Seriously hope they upgrade the Frontiers experience with the next game and Updates

Honestly I feel like with the power of dlc and patches, they could just add a scene where Sonic speaks to Eggman really quick at the end. It wouldn't throw the story off at all.

I just recently beat this game and I was blown away by it. I can't comprehend how anybody could give this game a bad or mediocre review. Yet you still see them.

I adore the gameplay in this game, even the 2D segments are fun in this one! Although Chaos Island definitely pushes it a bit. (Can't believe reviewers said that was the best island). It's not the BEST Sonic has ever felt, but it feels like you have to put some thought into the levels rather than holding X to boost. Not to mention just exploring the open zones and cheesing sections in any way you see fit to collect the memories was so much fun, even when you had already done a section it was always fun to revisit them. I wish they LOOKED like they were part of the environment instead of floating development assets, but I'm a gameplay/story over visuals kinda guy so I looked past that real quick
You should relisten to Egg Memo 11, not only does his first line feel like an SA1 reference, but it has *some* answers regarding Chaos, he's a relative of the Ancients, except the Ancients DNA corroded and they were transformed into a new species. So Chaos is an ancestor of the ancients, except he was on earth?! Was this a species that had spread across the galaxy? I'm so curious.
I'm also convinced that in the newly revealed free story update, we're gonna be collecting Chao on Angel Island/Sky Sanctuary, and there will be a relation between Chao and Koco as a vessel for the Ancients. And we'll be able to visit the portal(s) that Knuckles found in Sky Sanctuary as well as see some of the history of the place. I hope anyway!
For the Ikaruga fight, or "The End", it would have been an excellent middle phase to the final boss fight, with the first being Supreme. If we got one more awesome Super Sonic fight to end it off (even if it was flash over substance) that would have just been fantastic. I saw a suggestion that they could bring back Hyper Sonic just this once to up the ante even more and have some absolutely insanely flashy moves
It's fairly obvious the end of this game was rushed, especially when you consider the 4th and 5th islands are both just parts of Kronos island, so I hope they can properly finish off this story with the update! Despite The End, I adored this game so much

the worst part is from what leaks have shown, the final boss was going to involve a cyber sonic, probably super sonic with the cyber corruption in it likely in a way to evoke the feeling of hyper sonic without bringing it back directly because uh... screen flashing (and the fact the emeralds never reverted shape after s3k)
Growing up, I had only ever played Sonic Adventure 2 when it comes to the Sonic franchise. But between that and seeing Sonic SatAM on the TV, I always had a soft spot for the blue hedgehog and the freedom and heroism that comes with his character.
After finding out about the Archie comics, seeing its end, and rediscovering the same joy with Ian Flynn and company being put on board for IDW, I'm so glad to see that we're now in what seems to be a return to form. Even if the gameplay of the next games doesn't hold up as much, the impact of the characterization in this game I think hits so very hard for many, even people like me who aren't "superfans".
Now we hope that none of theses character regress... Like with shadow the hedgehog with his memories
TBH I feel like the Sage revival scene is the big reason Sonic and co don't spend all that much time reflecting on her fate. Like when Shadow fell to Earth in SA2, the game didn't immediately end with him in his Heroes pod. Would've definitely let the air out of the band a bit as it were if they went through all the trouble of mourning her at great length knowing that she would be back one Natewantstobattle banger later.
None of them have any idea she gets brough back though? From their perspective, she's gone. And we can't just assume that they think Eggman will just re-create her, either way it's still a massive dismissal of a really heartbreaking moment.
@@Garrulous64 In-universe yeah, they should care more, so I definitely agree it feels weird. I just get why they didn't bother for that out-of-universe reason. I imagine it'd feel real cheap for us-the-audience if the game went out of its way to have all the characters reflect on how sad and important this is and then brought her back ten minutes later. It's almost like the game itself is saying "hey, don't worry too much about her" like that.
My thought process even when I was first playing was basically "wait so they're not even gonna acknowledge that? ...there's gonna be some kind of post-credits scene isn't there?"
literally my exact thoughts on this game. though, this actually let me notice some things i didn't catch on to on my first time playing- which honestly enhanced it even further, especially ares island's cutscenes with knuckles.
really hoping the updates coming give more time into that final boss. it feels so rushed, i really want to know what a 'finished' version of supreme & the end's fights would have been.
Tbh I think that Ian Flynn has saved the sonic the hedgehog francize again first with the arche sonic comics second with the idw comics and now this game
so before watching this video Break Through It All was at the bottom of my tier list for the 4 titan themes but holy shit bro I'm seeing it in a new light after hearing your thoughts on the game and how the wyvern fight felt to you. the melodic minor key is a growling drone to show sonic's frustration and the chorus is like the kick in the gut to this beast with gritted teeth

Atleast in rhea island if you fall down there are some points points that have invisible triggers that if you fall down you have something going down to have a shortcut to go back up there
GARRULOUS, I SMEEL TREASON. YOU USED THE MARIO COIN SOUND FOR WHEN THE SONIC FRONTIERS LOGO WAS SHOWN AT THE START OF THE VIDEO.
While it may not be perfect, it's actually a REALLY solid game. Also, that ending completely broke me when I first got to it. Sage is my new favorite Sonic Character now, please bring our Glitch Baby back!
Here are some of my thoughts regarding Sonic Frontiers:
- Controversial opinion, but my favorite island was Rhea Island. That’s because of the anticipation I felt as I was going up the towers and uncovering bits of the Koko’s backstory and as the Cyber corruption starts to overtake Sonic. My second favorite island was Ouraneous Island because it was similar to Kronos Island in environment and in how its memory tokens look but it’s easier to traverse.
- Chaos Island is also my least favorite island. It’s the most difficult to traverse and doing cyloops around certain markers isn’t as rewarding. It doesn’t help that there was this one point where I wasted hours trying to figure out how to get the Ruby Chaos Emerald (my nickname for the red Chaos Emerald) when it turns out I was supposed to go through a certain area to get to the mini-island containing the emerald (I thought you enter the area to fight Chaos Island’s titan which of course I couldn’t do yet because I didn’t have all of the Chaos Emeralds.)
- The boss battle against Giganto is my favorite boss fight because of the presentation. We got “Undefeatable” playing in the background and Super Sonic looked really amazing.
- The boss battle against the Knight titan is also my least favorite boss fight. It was tricky getting the shield to hit the titan and getting to the last emerald on its head was the most difficult since I wanted to enter the boss battle with as many rings as possible.
- To tell you the truth, I enjoy the part of the game where Tails, Knuckles, and Amy rescue Sonic and cure him of the Cyber corruption. I find it heartwarming that they save Sonic through their love for him and that they return the favor to Sonic for everything he’s done for them. And who knows? Maybe the DLC story will feature an extended version of this scene by featuring a boss where Tails, Knuckles, and Amy work together to save Sonic’s soul.
- I honestly prefer The End as a final boss over the Supreme titan. The Supreme Titan boss fight, while fun, felt too easy for a final boss. While The End’s design wasn’t exactly what I expected it to be (I was expecting a giant eldritch abomination, not a purple moon) it at least made the titans look tiny which was what I expected the true final boss’s size to do. Even though I prefer The End as a final boss over the Supreme titan, I don’t plan to fight it again in my next playthrough of Sonic Frontiers.

39:37: Actually, im pretty sure the chao ARE mutations of the ancients, kinda like the coco. It would explain multiple things.
1. the coco mask the chao had in the knuckles prologue animation. If the coco were originally lucky charms for the ancients, it makes sense that they would take it with them to the sky sanctuary. speaking of which
2. in one of the cutscenes, the elder ancient says that if they fail, they will send a team to return the chaos emeralds to the master emerald. it is HEAVILY implied that this team became the chao. this would also mean that chaos is not a mutation of a chao, but a chao reverting to its original form.
It's weird to think we've been making them compete in races and beat eachother up in tournaments for fun when they used to be an advanced civilization
Final comments, I swear. I think what they were trying to go for with Amy, Knuckles, and Tails saving Sonic is that they took on his corruption themselves forcing them back into cyberspace. But if that's the case, they should have been a little more clear about what was happening, this scene still sucks ass
The Knight Titan (the 3rd one) is I think a reference to Sonic & The Black Knight and his swordsmanship in that game. Also yes, I played the full game. I didn't complete - complete all of the islands in the game, but I put in the main story. I didn't know that they were putting out a DLC for it though, which is weird bc I've been trying to keep up on sonic stuff since this came out in the hopes that __maybe__, just maybe we'll get also Shadow's character no longer stuck deep into the trash heap where it's been during the other Eras of these games where they took away all of his complexities to make him just a one-note rival character who's edgy and broody.
Despite this being their first time trying this formula for Sonic it works. It works real good. Parts definitely feel like a prototype but with refinement there's something truly epic here. I eagerly anticipate their next game.
after playing the game myself and listening to this video my conclusion, is that this game is incredible and a little rushed in the end island, not like problematically, just like marginally lower feel quality and a lot of missed oportunities for the story, it feels like how i write when i have to write for a test and i'm nearly done but there are only 5 minutes left. I try to make it feel whole and complete and logical but i take the shortest route for every scene and miss a lot of easy opportunities.
Yeah this is my first Sonic game I played in years and I love it
This game was great and it fixed all the characters. Plus Tails, Amy and Knuckles all get character development. They learn that they need to be their own heroes instead of relying on Sonic all the time and they all go off on their own.
Amy says she wants to help the world with love, even if it means she has to be separated from Sonic.
Knuckles laments that he’s the only one of his species, being alone. But Sonic tells him that they’re his family.
Tails learns that he can’t always depend on Sonic to save the day.
My hope is that the cyber corruption gets resolved in the DLC with the additional playable characters, where the final boss for all the characters aside from Sonic and (maybe) Sage would be the corrupted Sonic.
The ending to this video with all the moments from past games had me like 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I would have loved it if the corruption takes over sonic and he becomes enraged and transforms into a new super form, like darkspine sonic, and then he used that power to fight the final boss in his new form. But guess it didn't matter
from what leaks have said, that was originally the case. i don't remember if it was the sonic rose leak or the initial literal first one before the name rangers was found, but it mentioned that the final boss would have had sonic take cyber energy and transform into a new form "Cyber Sonic" and use that to beat an enemy very closely related to the moon."
42:00 the way i saw it was the 3 saved sonic by resealing themselves into cyberspace and undoing what he did to help them to face the greater threat. thats why they disappear into the red glitchy mist and sonic thanks them for it. it was them not only giving back for what sonic was doing for them the entire game but also showing their love for him by saying their freedom isnt worth his demise basically.
I'd be a little more Ok with that if they had done more with the scene to show it. The scene as it is is very anticlimactic.
@@Garrulous64 it is entirely anti climatic. I think the game overall started showing how much it was being rushed in both story and gameplay at the end.
Hopefully we can get something good with the dlc to semi make up for it!
