Although I agree with his reasons I don't know if I agree with his methods. I think he could of taken it more to parliamentary levels and worked it out that way which is what ended the civil war anyway. From how I see it he may have been at the hand of killing many innocent civilians of Bougainville even though his intentions were good.

Hi Samantha, thank you for your point of view. From my understanding however Harry Baxter was personally involved because he had been a representative of the mining company being part of his job to personally oversee the development and growth of the mining company in terms of infrastructure. He negotiated with locals and promised them things that never eventuated, the locals never benefited from the mine and infact it was degrading their environment by the release of cyanide into the streams etc. The banned chemical "Agent Orange" was also used on innocent bougainvillians (same chemical USA used in Vietnam), Harry baxter had seen what he was a part of creating and at the time of the blockades he had witnessed civilians being killed off inorder to restart the mine. Indiscriminate killing of civilians on first sight unlike what the Mr Pip movie portrays there was only bombing and shooting of anyone present in any village encountered. It was planned that the entire population would be wiped out, thus a blockade. As the last and only white man there during this time he would have felt the responsibility to help in any way he could as there was a media blackout and the world did not know of the conflict at all, by the time the world was awaken it would have been too late as Australia was training and personally supplied and flew Helicopter gunships against Bougainvillians, New Zealand helicopter pilots also flew gunships and the Papua New Guinea military had orders to shoot anyone as long as the mine was cleared to operate. He had no parliament to talk to as the PNG,AUS,NZ were against his cause and he would have been killed if he showed up in Papua New Guinea. The only reason the civil war was ended was NOT of any parliamentary forum/dialogue, but was because an international mercenary group (Sandline) from Britain was hired by the PNG government at cost of millions to bomb and wipe out the remaining bougainvillians and this did not go well with the PNG defence force itself as they had felt the government had lost faith in them and had wasted millions that they themselves could have used on their own defence force instead of foreign mercenaries. The Papua New Guinea Defence force itself that had been at war with Bougainvillians found themselves now defending Bougainville and ousting the foreign mercenaries in a coup thus ending the war. This same scenario is also the case now in West Papua where a whole population are being wiped out for their Minerals by the occupying Indonesia, in their case the ones who could have helped deserted the people with prospect of dialogue, genocide is still being committed today and the indigenous population is on the brink of extinction, with the minerals of west papua sustaining USA mining companies and the Indonesian economy dependant on it there is no hope for the locals as media blackout has also been enforced and they are slowly being exterminated. Anyways thank you for your input, please watch my other bougainville videos if your interested and also research on west Papua who are in need of help as they are struggling for freedom, cheers :-).

Thanks for the information it has been interesting to read. I always thought the parliamentary efforts of NZ and Australia had a lot more influence on the civil war stopping but that may have been due to media bias, I understand that I may have been mistaken. I still stand for my opinion that providing weapons may not have been the best way to coming to peace however, as the BRA were not always the innocent bystanders when it came to violence even against their own people. I have heard about the West Papua conflict and I am very saddened by it, my thoughts are with those who are suffering and I will provide my support to those who are rallying for their freedom. I am disgusted that this is going on so close to home. Thanks again for the response, you have increased my interest in this issue and I will be researching further.
