Home improvement made easy. The ideas involved are very informative.
Didn't do this to the countertops since I used granite BUT I did make a really nice center island with sturdy wood base, great for cooling hot pans.
Lowes must get updated.
Fiberglass rebar is the new trend.
My local store never heard of it.
You can see them on sale on Amazon
Yeah, but the pack pricing is in favor of steel still... and even on Amazon by a fair amount too. Cool stuff though.
Nice ....more video like this 😍😍😍
I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER ! ! ! 👌
Awesome! Now I must his this video from my wife.
My question is about using concrete sealer (nothing specified) and the fact that it has to be reapplied yearly. This would suggest that it rubs off, flakes off, etc., and if true wouldn't the sealer need to be a food grade product?
can you do a video on concrete counters over existing kitchen counter top?
nay282 thanks for the suggestion.
What would be the best way to cut out the hole for the sink, etc.?
Use 2" foam insulation and cut a template of your sink. Hot glue to your form and caulk around the foam to seal it.
use fiber in the concrete
what do you suggest as a depth for the countertop?
What grit should i usw to sand the concrete ? For top and corners
I like the video. But thumbnail is very confusing. It looks like somebody making a concrete counter top under water :)))
Is there a less expensive alternative to concrete? I'd like to upgrade my countertops which are currently laminate.
Terry Boatright do a overlay look up direct color
Terry Boatright look up the 'stone coat countertops' channel, they do amazing shit. And you can do it right on your existing countertops.
what grit of sandpaper are you supposed to use?
JEFF WILLIAMS start with 100-grit and work your way to 220-grit; keep checking until the surface and edges feel smooth. Be sure to wear a respirator; this is a dusty process. Thanks for watching.
Is there a frosting
How do u fasten the slab to countertop?
One of the most common ways is to run a thick bead of silicone caulk along the top edges of your base cabinets. You can also use construction adhesive, but the sheer weight of the concrete countertop will help it stay in place!
At $60 a bag I will make my own mix thanks.
How do i make it shiny ?
alot of steps. each one costing $, but end result is modern and pairable with most designs!
1000th like aswm idea's thanks.. a lot pps
We put tile on top of ours here
How do you add color like whites??
If you do not mind, I will answer your question.
To add white color at concrete you must use structural white cement instead gray cement.
Will the concerte stain easy ?
Yep, especially if you do it early. While mixing up the concrete, you can add pigments to color the concrete or even add particulate like glass beads, shells or more.

How would I attach it to the base?
Trimere I’m pretty sure glue
That wasn't really a question. There's hundreds of different types of glue.
Use a construction adhesive. This one is made for kitchen stuff including marble/granite countertop: www.lowes.com/pd/LOCTITE-PL-Off-white-Interior-Exterior-Multi-purpose-Construction-Adhesive-Actual-Net-Contents-10-fl-oz/50119439
I can't tell if that frosting
Don't ever do this we did it when we bought a new house and it was fine,we added dark brown coloring to it thought.but after about 4 to 5 years later it looks horrible cracks are everywere and the color is fading we now are in the process of redoing our entire kitchen and are using granite countertops instead but what ever you do do NOT do this trust me you will regret it later on
I think maybe you just used a cheap concrete mix... Concrete is pretty durable, especially when sealed and reinforced properly
Aaron Glisson your suppose to seal it every year.
Also 4-5 years is pretty good
I really think it's frosting
The only problem... is super heavy.
How to lay self leveling cement
Alex The Salvo thanks for the suggestion.
So is there any other type of material you can use underneath besides melamine that will give it a slicker finish?
just polish the top up to finer grade. you can do glass-like finish if you want :)
Lowes doesn't carry countertop mix?
low.es/2rzB3hk
It's not available in any stores around me.
Pretty certain they can ship it to the nearest store for free, if that store dosen't have any.
Too bad most Lowes dont sell counter top concrete!
Can anyone tell me where there is a lowes that does sell it?
deum
add the right minerals and you have man made granite...
Mitchell Spanheimer what materials would those be and when would they need to be added?
Don't use Olive Oil. It gets rancid over time, and concrete is porous, so that's gross. Also, you could have achieved round corners if you had applied the silicone correctly when you sealed the box. creating that little ogee shape with a silicone tool would mean less sanding of concrete dust in the end. Also, shame on you for not mentioning that one should be wearing properly rated ventilation when sanding concrete. COME ON LOWES! GET IT TOGETHER!
Useful and helpful comments. Use pure silicone and smooth it with your finger. Gives nice rounded edges and is easy to remove. Ideally, use a wet sander of spray water on worktop as you sand with an orbital sander taking care to wear gloves and have a cut off device in case tool gets wet. Use Glass fibre or steel mesh.
Where is there a lowes that actually sells this stuff?
That looks ugly to me. Where is a concrete top useful or nicer than something else? Surely this is something used outdoors? I just don't get the function or appeal.
Industrial look, if that is your thing ( which it isn't ). Tastes vary however.
Tony Harrell this is a basic tutorial. I would imagine that you could find concrete countertops that would better fit your taste. People can make concrete countertops that look like a more traditional granite or in almost any commute
You can color the concrete any way you want or stain them to look like anything you want...use your imagination...
This counter-top was lightly sanded. I have ground the top cream off exposing the aggregate and making it look more like granite and Very polished. using a water grinder w diamond discs to 2000 grit really makes it a Finished product.
Concrete counter tops are widely used in new construction in New York City,it really does add a nice modern and sophisticated look when coordinated with a proper color scheme.
first!!!! : ))
Anyone tried this with recycled glass as part of the aggregate?
Thanks!
