    Great to have these flex plates available for resin printers now. One issue with printing flat is 'elephant foot' due to the first few layers being cured more. 3DPrintingPro has some video's on avoiding this as he encounted it printing resin bases for mini's. Next step is for Chitubox to add an 'elephant foot' reduction setting like prusaslicer.

    It’s worth noting shipping to the US is an additional $15, half the cost of the actual item for most of their selections. $50 for a 130x80mm sheet for a photon. That’s pretty a pretty expensive convenience. Not sure what shipping is like anywhere else.
    With that said, I do like Wambam! And I preordered one for my photon.
    I wonder if someone could make their own, and at a far cheaper price (in the us). TH3D sells a flex system that I absolutely love. For $45 (with shipping) you can get a 235x270 flex system (plate plus magnet) and make 2 photon build plate systems. For 2 sheets by wambam its $60+
    Ya know what, my curiosity is getting the better of me. Ordered the TH3D kit and will make my own and compare to the wambam system.
    The first concern that would come up would be rust, but I’ve washed my other th3d flex plates in soap and water more times than I can count and no sign of any issues. So not worried there.

    • @MauDib
      @MauDib 4 роки тому +1

      Seems like the biggest problem you'll run into is the magnet not being strong enough to hold the flex plate to the build platform.

    • @denegra
      @denegra 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, the shipping is stupid expensive. No reason for it to be that high.

    • @WhamBamSystems
      @WhamBamSystems 4 роки тому +5

      sorry, that is the price to ship from factory,
      we only use major carriers as the regular post frequently loses packages and has no accountability, not to mention the weeks of transit.
      the couriers have a minimal fee so you can probably order 3 kits and have same shipping cost.
      But this is just for the pre-order. In about 3 weeks we will have inventory in the USA, so if you dont mind waiting you can save some money on shipping

    • @blackwolfecc

      Matt MauDib after already working with their build plates, I’m not TOO worried about it (knock on wood). The magnetic force is very strong. Printed a piece that was 200x215 x ~700g and tried removing it without removing the build plate. I was able to lift the Ender 3 up just by the print. Even held the whole thing suspended in air for a few minutes with no issue.
      Though the surface area is going to be much smaller, in reality I won’t ever come close to having the same mass per surface area on my photon

    • @MauDib
      @MauDib 4 роки тому

      @@blackwolfecc gotta say, that's pretty impressive. I wouldn't expect the thin magnet to be that strong.

      I just bought a flex plate as I make lithophanes flat to the bed and they are tricky to remove. I do it this way because they only take 12 minutes on my Mars 2 Pro! The last one I printed I had to heat with a hot air gun and gently prise it off the bed, hopefully this will be a thing of the past 🙏🏻

    • @originaltrilogy1
      @originaltrilogy1 4 роки тому +2

      Yeah, best thing I ever bought for the photon. $50 isn't cheap, but over the course of hundreds of prints its cents per print, and have damaged models getting them off the bed, so probably saves me some reprints. But mostly, it just removes one more annoyance from resin printing, well worth it and I'm going to order one for the Sonic 4K mono when it arrives..

    Resin printing is art when it comes to supports. Orientation is critical for good adhesion. Got chose where to stick the heavy supports were they are not seen and using medium and small where they are only needed which means manual rather auto support. Wham Bam is really expensive for the Epax X1. If printing minis, there is no way of printing without supports; islands are a pain. I could see this being good for building parts or components if willing to spend more money. The real advantage comes not having to remove the base. That means less calibrations needed in the long run hopefully.

    generally speaking, speed is one of the reasons to use a resin printer especially given that most of them are MSLA and therefore print an entire layer at a time. The newer Mono screens make them even faster. Laser Resin printers are slower than FDM but seeing as that is not really available at the hobbyist price point it is kind of irrelevant.

    • @TeachingTech
      @TeachingTech  4 роки тому

      If you can pack the build plate then yes, but otherwise a single item is generally going to be slower than FDM.

    Formlabs printers' vats move laterally in addition to the z-axis moving upward to aid in dislodging from the FEP. Seems to work okay from what I've seen, but it requires more motors and moving parts so I dunno if that's a reasonable thing for other companies to implement.

    I ordered one of these (the double kit) and using the default settings for the Phrozen printer, my first few prints with it have been amazing! I LOVE IT! My build plate had gotten a bit janky from all the times I had to basically chisel the print supports off the plate, so being able to just barely flex this plate to take the prints off has just been a life saver! It is by far and away my favorite mod for my printer yet! I use a Phrozen Sonic mini original (not the 4k model). Thank you for your awesome videos!

    Was eager to try these. Went to order and they want a whopping $15 USD for shipping. Whambam! is less than 3 hours down the road from me. Why would they ask for that much shipping?

    • @WhamBamSystems
      @WhamBamSystems 4 роки тому +2

      sorry, that is the price to ship from factory,
      we only use major carriers as the regular post frequently loses packages and has no accountability, not to mention the weeks of transit.
      the couriers have a minimal fee so you can probably order 3 kits and have same shipping cost.
      But this is just for the pre-order. In about 3 weeks we will have inventory in the USA, so if you dont mind waiting you can save some money on shipping.
      You can even pick them up from us with no shipping in 3 weeks when we have some in stock, just give us a ring or email!

  • @obie224

    I just do not understand why this is needed. If your prints are stuck to the build plate THAT badly, you have your initial exposure settings too high, it's that simple. I don't see the need to spend $60 to solve a problem that's easy to fix in the print settings.

    • @ryanfitch750
      @ryanfitch750 4 роки тому

      People said the same thing about FDM print beds. "Just adjust your first layer!" The same reason flex beds are essential features for FDM printers is the same reason they will be for SLA printers. People don't like, and are willing to pay to avoid, inconveniences. Once it becomes a desired feature on a main stream printer, it will be on all of them.

    • @obie224
      @obie224 4 роки тому +1

      @@ryanfitch750 "essential"... you're an idiot. If you want to throw away $ for a flex bed that 90% of people who are fdm printing don't have or need, be my guest, it's a free country. But what makes you an even bigger idiot is thinking that fdm printing and resin printing are even remotely the same thing - but I guess that someone who needs a dummy tool like a flex bed would think that's true. Btw, you're an Iphone user, aren't ya ? You sound like an Iphone user LOL.

    • @originaltrilogy1
      @originaltrilogy1 4 роки тому

      Sure, your models might not stick to the bed, other people with large, tall models that need good adhesion have to make it so that it holds throughout the print, it's not readily solvable with settings, it's just physics. You need a strong bond for a big heavy model, and then that is hard to remove. A flex bed solves that problem. For minis, it's not required but is still super convenient. Not everyone's situation is the same.

    • @obie224
      @obie224 4 роки тому +1

      @@originaltrilogy1 The level of idiots on youtube is almost as bad as reddit. I mean, what are we talking here, prints that weigh 10 pounds ? Do you even know how ridiculous you sound ? If you have your exposure settings correct, the damn print will stay attached if it weighs 3 oz or 3 pounds (3 pounds is the approx weight of a solid cube that takes up the ENTIRE BUILD AREA of an elgoo mars or similarly sized resin printer, and no normal print will even approach 3 pounds, so you're an idiot.
