    From Kentucky USA here with 5 good riding horses. I stumbled upon this video and really appreciated it because this is exactly what we all go through from time to time with a fresh horse.
    I am going to subscribe hope to see more rides!

    wonderful! I love the commentary, please keep it up.
    It was helpful to hear you describe JJ as right brain. I think most Fjords are right brain and the ones the Fjord rescue I belong to that have problems have been not allowed to think or ask questions, sucking up the being pushed until they can't take it any more. They require understanding because they are so intelligent and try so hard.
    I have had my girl Karrina since 2014 and she's my personal therapy horse. I had a bad horse wreck in 1995 that still haunts me and poor Karrina is sometimes the victim of that bit of history. She's not done anything to deserve my reactions but she's mostly a saint so we get past my problems.
    I only ride a few minutes at a time and infrequently now since my girl isn't sound herself often. It's better for her though if I ride off her weight that restrict her calories and if I could only explain that to her, she'd agree, lol.
    Love the videos.
    Your Fjord friend in Wyoming, USA.

      @@KristenWeber-d1i that's so interesting about the rescue Fjords. I think quite a few who were in her group that came from Holland were also right brain and not everyone is knowing how to give them time to adjust to things. So some are having issues which is a shame.
      Sounds like Karrina is the perfect horse for you. JJ has to put up with many things with me, some physical some mental lol but she's usually a lot better than I give her credit for. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. I know I went on a bit 😂

    The horse is napping quite badly. How do you manage to keep this horse safe when you get riding on a main road with lorries and buses and motorbikes going past you at speed on both sides of the road. Also how does this horse cope on a main road stuck in the middle of a traffic jam or going around a busy roundabout?

    • @theimperfectequestrian
      @theimperfectequestrian  5 днів тому

      @@HelenW-w3t well, we've been on a very busy road with parked cars one side and lorries tractors and buses on the other side, and generally that little bit of pressure keeps her moving forward, although she will still snack grab if there are verges lol. We don't have any round abouts anywhere near here, so we haven't tackled that yet. I'm not sure if you're in the uk? But we now have a law that says the vehicles shouldn't pass faster than 10mph. To be fair, many only slow to 20mph, but most do slow. The busses and lorries around here are particularly good with the horses I have found 😊. Our current location is extrealy rural so it's never as busy as we've had previously as you can see in the video 😊. Also she only usually stops. So it's not too unsafe if she did do this in a busy area. She doesn't walk into cars.

      @@theimperfectequestrian I used to drive two horses and I always had to go on really busy roads even when breaking in horses because the countryside near me was too steep to drive horses there and we would soon come back to main roads anyway.

      @HelenW-w3t aww that's a shame it was so busy but I bet they were good because of it 😊

      @@theimperfectequestrian we bought a horse once which had not seen much traffic and I wasn't told that, it also hadn't seen any road markings and shied towards traffic on the other side of the road. I ended up making a rein from it's noseband to the other horse's collar , so that the horse's head was looking at the other horse's head. I had holes in the rein so that I could keep letting the new horse out one hole at a time. That horse never shied at anything else ever.

      @@HelenW-w3t well done. Have you seen the videos with the cob called King in. He's so solid with traffic. They attach really green horses to him, both by lead rein and in harness and he just leads them through everything no matter what. He seems pretty amazing
