I live in southern Arizona and have set up ground blinds like yours utilizing mesquite branches and other brush. It had never occurred to me to set up a tree stand on a Cottonwood tree. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, sir!

you're welcome. Depending on the hunt, will use fixed stands or my run-n-gun saddle/single stick system. Saddle system used 80% of the time.

looks like you're just west of the tank just northwest of the border checkpoint. Before cameras were banned the only deer I saw on the camera's were in the wash that leads back to 95 from the main tank in that area that was dry. Nice 3 point, but not sure he was worth pursuing. This year I'm going further into KOFA. I may be wrong about where you're at tho, but if I'm right, those knobs just west of you was where I was planning to glass if I ever spotted something worth interest and a stalk.

those deep, long canyons are some of my fave areas in the Kofa.

Have spent hundreds of hours in tree stands in the Kaibab and So. Utah. I'm afraid that at 76 years old my tree stand days are over.
Have several friends a few years younger who come from Cal. And Az. to hunt with me every year in So. Utah. I will let them do the tree climbing!

wow, you must have some great memories of the Kaibab! Been trying to draw that tag for several years now.

In the old days the Kaibab and the east half of the strip were over the counter tags. More deer in Utah but not as big.

I would worry about a cottonwood breaking with my fat butt in it.

Yes, not just ANY cottonwood tree will do. Must use caution by inspecting, choosing all tree species to climb up for treestand hunts.
