Great information Mav. I bought some gaiters and will definitely be wearing them when I fish or hike. I've come across three rattlers over the past 4 years while fishing. The first time was the most scariest day of my life. I ran into at least another 10 large garter snakes later that day and just about had a heart attack each time. This was on the McCloud river. I was deep from where I parked and by myself. Lucky for me I either saw them or heard them before I got too close. Thanks for sharing this very important information.

Was flyfishing a SW Colorado stream, waded knee deep. Looked behind me, downstream, to see a big 4' rattler swimming along the river's edge inside of me, slinking its way around the rocks. Just about wet the inside of my waders!

@MavHntr 😂 definitely have to have respect for them and be aware of your surroundings the best you can. I wish there were sunglasses that would make them stand out. They're so dang camouflaged.

Good work MAV. You needed to mention getting your hunting dogs snake broke. Getting bit is not a matter of "if" but "when", and its cheap insurance. One vile of anti-venom is more than the cost of an expensive pointer. Also, I thought you lived in Arizona?

yes, doggie training too, especially for predatory nature dogs. I alternate living in AZ, CA, WA States, depending on time of year, family visits and mood...

I noticed you didn’t demonstrate with the light weight breathable boots???

I had demo’ed the mid-weight, codura panel boots in the 1st TurtleSkin gaiter video. After I finished filming this follow-up vid, I started yard work in the brush. Within the natural area beyond the backyard fence, where I always wear the HD leather boots.
I have some very lightweight hiking boots, more like a shoe than boot, but won’t wear these if snakes are a possibility, as material make-up is more mesh-codura with very little leather. I observe many hikers wearing this type for hiking on maintained trails. But I would never wear this lightweight style to venture in terrain off prepped hiking trails.
