The Nikon P520 Coolpix had a problem with the firmware when it was first released (Version 1.0 of the firmware). Some interaction with the built-in GPS meant that under certain conditions it would power down but then not switch on - Giving the impression that the battery was dead. The solution was to remove the battery and leave the camera without its battery for a number of hours (preferably overnight). There must be some sort of capacitor circuit in the camera that needs to slowly discharge to return it to its original state. Hopefully, when you put the battery back in in the morning the camera should switch on as normal. To stop the issue from happening again upgrade the firmware to Version 1.1. - As of July 2023 the firmware upgrade and instructions for installing it were still available on the Nikon website. I guess that over the years the issue has caused a lot of perfectly good Nikon batteries and maybe even a few Coolpix P520s to be thrown away unnecessarily.
Thanks, I have the same problem with my p520
ty bro
I have the same issue. The fix in this video is not fixing my problem. These cameras are sold as needing repair on ebay. Same symptoms. You're lucky if this guys fix works.
Processor failure or I.C. battery charge shorcut.
Nice video
Thanks, glad you liked!
Hi, I have the same camera and I haven't used it in ages. The green light does turn on when it is charging, but the camera itself does not turn on! Do you think it is the same issue or perhaps another issue?
Could be a similar issue. Firstly I suggest to leaving it changing for 1 day or so, just to be sure that will try charge. You can try as well to connect the camera to the computer and see what happens. Let me know if it helped.
I have this exact problem with my P520 ! Were you able to fix the problem?
I have the same problem!! Any solution?
Nikon official shop told me that the problem is leaving the camera with battery on for long periods of time, then the inner circuitry of the motherboard gets fkd. Only solution is to replace the motherboard, but I still wonder is some skillful technician could find the problem and replace just the broken chip, instead of replacing the whole stuff, which btw is really expensive. It-s a pity since it's a beautiful camera
Plug charger into the side of the camera for an hour with no battery in it. Then unplug and install fully charged battery.
Im having "almost" the same problem with my p520. I connect the nikon original power cable/charger set to the camera. The battery is inside the slot. The battery charging indicator does not light up. The camera does not beep. But it lights up the on-off green button. The on-off stays green lightened for a few seconds, then it turns off, then lights up again and the loop repeat.
Im praying im getting the same problem you had. But from what i could see from your video, the battery is okay, and the problem is the original nikon battery charger? This is fuckin´ outrageous. We need to buy a chinese charger instead using the original nikon charger!
Ill try to buy a new charger. If it works, you are a genius! Thank you!
yes, seems a bit different. Try to check if your battery is empty (or almost) if you have a multimeter.
As well read that if you try to connect the camera do pc it might help, i think it did nothing for me.
Hope it will be a cheap and easy fix!
@@oldniustuff I bought a cheap chinese charger. Ill get it tomorrow. You are my last hope or...maybe a new generic chinese battery. Though i took 900 pictures already, i consider i wasnt a heavy user for this camera. I use it very rarely and now this problem. Only can be battery or charger related. No power indicator lighting up. Just the on-off. Its plugged on the computer. Nothing happens. Ppl say something about remove the battery, remove the card, format the card, connect to the computer. I did all of these things and til now, nothing. I read about some people saying this is a faulty camera from factory. In theory you could fix it, but it would cost almost a new one. And to make the things better, Nikon left my country. Thank you again!
@@oldniustuff well..the new charger worked to load the battery (green light) but the camera behaves as before: on/off winking. Nothing happens. If the battery did charge but the camera is dead, its not the battery, its the camera, right?
@@SonnyBurnett2012 yes seems then the issue is not the battery... i was checking a bit and it might the on/off button itself or some issue with the main board... maybe try to open it and do some clean? at some point i want to do the same to mine, i will do a video about it, but not sure when yet.
@@oldniustuff the battery is losing charge fast. Well, i wont spend money on it now. Even im not being able to fix it, following your steps i must say thank you again. :)
No se enciende y con el cable conectado al cargador no enciende el testigo en carga verde la tenciòn de labateria marca 3,29 V.
Yeah its a bloody nightmare. Everything is ok and the battery has full charge (checked with multimeter over 4v). One site I saw said try to do a firmware update which needs a card reader so I'll have to get one of those and try.
I found out it won't charge unless it's plugged into a USB output of 2.5 amps. The old phone .2 amp chargers just make the power light glow, the 1.5 amp USB makes a fast blink but it won't charge. After plugging it into a 2.5 amp USB it has a steady slow blink and charges. If it has an original Nikon charger put a load on it to find out how many amps it puts out.
I haven't tried an inline USB tester yet to see how much power it takes. I just bought one for $18 same thing. It's in the mail still. I bet I can take my charged battery slide it in and it will work. I bought it for a parts camera but it might work perfectly.
Where did you buy that batterycharger
I am having the same issues with Nikon Coolpix P510 . Maximum of the users are having the same problem as per my research in the internet. Something seems to be wrong with inbuilt charger hardware . I do not recommend to buy Nikon product.
Any solution to fix this?
I think i have the same problem ...didnt use the Nikon P 520 camera in ages (stored the battery apart from camera)
put the battery back in but would not charge
so i ordered a external charger for 20euros
comes in tommorow or the day after
i hope the battery will charge with this external charger en fix the problem
Take the lenz cover off. It will cause the camera to automatically shut off if it's still on.
Same issue with my nikon coolpix p530...
this was helpful. thank you.
Great that it help!
how long can we record video with a 128gb sdhc card?
My camera just allows 30 minutes doesn't matter the size of the card, but I believe this is because the card is formatted with 32 bit (4GB), you can try to format in other size and see.
My Coolpix P520 not only does not power up, it drains a fully charged battery, Not good publicity for Nikon
Can we use it as webcam ?
I actually didn't try it, I think it should be possible but not sure. Currently on vacations, but will try it as soon I am back and will update you!
Please try i also have p520 i tried video capture device and nikon webcam utilty but it's not working as webcam.
Pq esse relógio fica piscando na tela
Penso que seja pela data e a "time zone" nao esta definida. Depois de definir desapareceu o relogio, va ao menu de opcoes e encontrara o menu "time zone and date". Espero que ajude!
Belo rewil
Well update ...the Charger arrived and i charged the battery and the charged shows its full ......put it in the P520 but still nothing will not go on
put the camera on PC ....nothing happens
SO i guess the Camera is dead ? i used it i think 2 or 3 times ....its in brandnew state
If nothing happens even when is connected to PC then it might be other issue... I would suggest to upgrade the camera software but if is totally dead, there is no way to do it...
Ale się nagadasz jak byś był niewiem jakim bardzo dobrym mechanikiem,a tyle co pokazałeś to wie nawet dziecko
same issue with my p530..
Let me know if this solution helps.
@@oldniustuff I am having the same problem with my P520 😩
@@bamlook2640 Try the charging the battery with the slow charger.
