  • Lets take a walk through Llanddwyn Beach onto Llanddwyn Island. This is a tidal island meaning it only really becomes an island once the tide comes in. The island is said to be one of the sites of the Celtic legend of Saint Dwynwen who built a church on the island. People would often come to Dwynwen for healing and she became the patron saint of lovers. She is celebrated every year on 25th January, which is often considered to be the Welsh version of Valentine's Day. In recent years a lifeboat station was housed on the island but it closed in 1903. The lighthouse was constructed in 1873, but it clearly hasn't been used as a lighthouse for some time! The island also contains many geographical interests like pillow lava and aeolian sand deposits. You might even see a seal too if you're lucky!
