Lots of great tips in this video for beginners to the craft. For example, the fact that connections are more visible in transparent than opaque glass. I didn't know that. Also, great tip about how to drill glass to prevent breaking. As he says, he makes the mistakes so you don't have to! I just subscribed.
Thanks! Check out the full catalog of video projects here: www.glasshoppa.com
Great demo! Very professionally presented. Loved it! Many thanks
Thank you for you special tutorial from NZ
Your working of art is brilliant
Thanks Glasshoppa for a thoroughly informative tutorial. I'm new to fusing and really appreciate your explanations of how to do things but also find your 'how not to do it' additions a real help too. You're a brilliant teacher.
I sincerely appreciate your remarks!
Such a great and informative video. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!

Thank you for your videos and project resources.
I am a novice so learn a great deal from you sharing your knowledge and experience.
I am keen to practice this so I can make switch plates for our new home being built this year.
I am not confident about drilling but that is what practice is all about.
Thank you! See other projects for more on drilling: www.glasshoppa.com
I have watched several of your videos. I am so happy that you made them and that I discovered them. Very informative and friendly. Thank you. Plus I love the name Glasshoppa. :)
Made my day!!
Great job! Now I'm off to my work bench! Thank you.
+Mary Hansen Thank you! Let me know how it goes ...

+Vickie M Thank you! Hope you give these a try real soon --
I am sure you are a good cook happy Christmas and new year to all your family
Great project I will have to try that one out :)
Beautiful!
Thanks for this video! I fired one, but haven't done the coldworking yet. Can you please provide a link to the Dremel bits to use? I don't want to buy the wrong thing and crack my switchplate. I tested with the bit I have on a piece of scrap glass and did crack that. Thanks!
Wow, I'm impressed

Thank you❣️
It never occurred to me how to mask seams like this. Thank you so much!
Hiding mistakes is my specialty. : )
Muy ingenioso! Gracias!
Yo tambien te agradezco!
This is so beautiful!!! and you are very sweet :-)
Thank you for sharing this with us....
What firing schedule did you use for these?
Great video for doing this without a mold! For the holes, I'm using a cheap Sears drill press, a pan of water and cheap Chinese 1mm and 2mm diamond bits from Ebay. I can get at least 50 holes per bit. Dremel bits are ridiculously over priced imho.If you need to prevent blowout on the back, such as in a pendant, drill 3/4 through with the 2mm bit, then finish with the 1mm, turn it over and do the 2mm from the 1mm hole on the back, if needed. Sometimes the 1mm hole is sufficient for the finding.
Thanks Herb! And good ideas ... keep 'em coming.
Is there something you can put inside where the holes go so you dont need to drill the holes? Can you save an resue broken peices? I remember in art class i made earring peices, inside a metal frame using a torch....it was fun but sad i couldnt finish them bcus someone stole em. Thanks for giving me inspiration to do glass again!
There is a fibrous paper that will "placehold" an opening to retain a hole. But it wouldn't be as clean or precise. And yes, broken pieces can be re-used, with some limitations. Good luck; have fun --
I'm already a member and I want to find the information that you provide members
Can you make them to fit the newer larger push button type and also the plug for a cord type?
As long as you can make a template, you can make a switch plate.
What do you sell the light switch plates for? I like grey white purple and blue eith a small amount of black similar to the colors of the pink one. Thanks for answering the questions
I haven't sold them. You can contact me directly here: www.glasshoppa.com/Contact.php
I like that glass cutter on the square...where'd you get it? ..could help me with leaded glass project I'm starting... Thanks :)

I am having trouble lining up the screw holes. Using a dremel with 6/32 bit. Also how to treat Drexel to avoid rust.
Not sure what you mean here. I used a common plastic switch plate to mark the hole positions before drilling. Only the drill bit should get wet, not the drill itself. Rust shouldn’t be a concern ... Hope this has been some help,
So the problem I have with glass switch plates, whether using a mold or doing it as you do in the video, is that is doesn't curve around the innards as a regular plastic one does. Sometimes is will work on a wall, but more often I have found that it doesn't fit properly. I have ended up adding strips of glass to the underside to correct for the shape but then it's more work. Have you found this to be a problem? I've had people return the item saying it just doesn't fit their fixture. :-{
YOU'RE right, they don't fit flush against the plaster wall. I can see how that might be unacceptable to some people. It doesn't disturb or distract me, and no one's ever commented on that issue. If people are returning them for that reason, I'd seek a solution.
Made 3 of them with a center of 1/2 x 1" ceramic instead of fiber paper. All 3 cracked starting at the corners of the center hole. Looks like fiber paper is a better way to go. Ceramic has no give. The only reason I can think of for the cracks. Steve - Toledo
Sorry, I don't really understand what you did with the ceramic, or why you got the cracks. Have you solved the problem? Use my email if you prefer: glasshoppa@comcast.net
Please can you tell me a good kiln for me to use I know how to do fused glass but never used a kiln I would like to buy one it is someone else doing it for me but I wish to do it myself is there something I need to know before please
Hi Caroline -- check this link: www.glasshoppa.com/FirstKiln.html
Can you explain why sometimes you use superglue while other times you use aloe ?
Try this: www.glasshoppa.com/FAQ.html
Try using a dremel tool to cut out the switch hole.. drill a hole then cut a path thru the glass to create a hole. Remember that a diamond drill bit cuts from all sides and to keep it under water as much as you can. This is what I do to make eyes in cats or just when I want to make a design in the glass. Sometimes I fill it with fiber or I want a different color of frit or whatever my mind can think up!
great work .i just need to know about your kiln i like it
+Noreen Khan Thanks for your comments ... Here is the kiln: skutt.com/products-page/glassmaster-kilns/gm-10f/
Thanks for your reply many thanks ..
oh volume...nice
Couldn't you just cut out the center hole with a dremel tool?
As far as I know, the Dremel does not have the ability to do this safely and efficiently. Correct me if I'm wrong 🙂!
That would be such an easier project!
Disappointed this video isn't titled "Classy Glassy Switch Plates"
Okay, you got me there.
Glasshoppa Fantastic video, nevertheless! Keep it up, my dude
