The 2000 Sooners had a laundry list of good teams they beat on their way to the title, but to me, beating this Kansas State team, a legit Top 10 team, on the road twice in the same season was the biggest feather in their cap. I know this wasn't technically a "road" game but K-State at Arrowhead in those days may as well have been.
Absolutely! I see this team get rated as one of the worst national champions of the 21st century, but that doesn’t hold water to me. They beat a legit K State team that was probably the best team in 98. Then the beat a Nebraska team who legitimately was probably the first or second best team in 99. What they did in October is one of the greatest runs in college football history!
@@adamsanders2270 The Sooners had a very difficult schedule and they were not favored in many of their games. The Big XII placed three teams in the top 10 in the final poll, and there would have been four if Texas had been able to overcome Oregon. People always argue that OU would not have been able to beat Miami, but they forget that the landscape was different in 2000: Oklahoma had a GREAT defense and the Big XII was still a dominant conference. OU beat so many strong teams as a clear underdog in 2000 that I have no doubt the Sooners would have beaten Miami too. In fact, I doubt Miami would have even been able to beat Kansas State. The only problem that OU had at the end of the season was that Josh Heupel was supposedly not 100%. If Heupel had operated at his peak capacity all season, I don't think any of OU's games aside from the bitter A&M affair would have been close.
They were an awesome team! Spread offense, but legitimately played from a defensive mentality. Starters playing on special teams. They were so much fun to watch!
My word I will never forget this game! My hometown was playing in a high school football state semifinal for the first time in decades. I wanted to go, but my dad and I decided we just couldn’t miss this game, so we stayed home and watched it! When Duncan hit that Field goal we went crazy! What a night!
I was at this game in the north end zone. Epic game I remember sitting right by Rocky’s sister. She was taking shots lol 😆 BOOMER SOONER BABY! Last year’s OU Texas Big12 championship was epic as well!!
My goodness, OU's offense was running on mere fumes at the end of their fabled 2000 run. A week after putting up 10 offensive points vs 3-8 Oklahoma State, this mess. They scored 10 first half points on four possessions starting inside KSU 35. Couldn't run a yard. Josh's arm looked like rubber. 1/5 on 3rd and a yard, but getting stopped on 4th and 1. (Didn't help Josh running out of bounds late cost OU that last KSU TD too.) But it simply doesn't matter. They won it all and deserved it. Sometimes things are just magical.
16 year old kid watching this game in Tulsa ok on Yale Street at the University bar lol . I rememeber walking home a few blocks away yelling Boomer Sooner all the way home drunk off my ass! Amazing I wasn't arrested. Maybe the police were celebrating to
I moved to Norman the year that Bob Stoops was hired. We went to the Independent Bowl my first introduction to college football my first love was the Sooners until all my bandwagon friends liked them.. I been a cornhusker fan an a closet OU fan since!! 😂😂😂
My goodness, if anyone wonders why the Big XII was happy to get rid of their Championship Game after 2010, this is but one exhibit. In the first 15 versions, the conference had a team contending for the National Championship that lost the game or came darn close seven times (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, and 2009).
2007 Big 12 Champions Oklahoma lost in the Fiesta Bowl to West Virginia. I think LSU won it that year. OU wouldve gone to the title game, but Sam Bradford suffered a concussion at Texas Tech
Oklahoma survived and advanced to the BCS Championship game in Miami, FL ⁉🟪🏟🏈🌇What if OU lost the Big XII Championship ?? A rematch of UMiami vs. Washington in BCS 'ship ?? I'm a OU fan, and the reason why? Is because the BCS was shit back then. I remember in 2001 when Nebraska got the shit kicked out of them by Miami. We lost to Nebraska earlier that year but If OU had beaten OSU? and regardless of the rematch between OU and Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game, they would have replayed each other again in the National Championship game. Back then the Big 12 was the number 1 conference by far as far as the BCS was concerned.
It’s really amazing how much HD programming adds to the viewing experience. Would love to see these old games upscaled somewhat.
Same
Coach Stoops “we don’t have anything on the line” this is how we need to play now! Bring it back Brent!
Brent has in fact NOT brought it back

I would pay hundreds of dollars to get this whole season on DVD
This college football season rivals the 1995 nfl season for best ever.

They had 32 takeaways up to this game. Man I miss the old OU defense. They're on an upward trend though!
takes time to get the right guys in and on the same page. Especially with a defense like Grinch plays
Brent is back baby 😈

Not as cold as -57 with the wind chill for an entire week. When I lived in Lakewood CO. Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!😨

The only thing worse is the new ccg iteration that gives #2 a mulligan against #1.
2007 Big 12 Champions Oklahoma lost in the Fiesta Bowl to West Virginia. I think LSU won it that year.
OU wouldve gone to the title game, but Sam Bradford suffered a concussion at Texas Tech
You are so good
Talk about so many things. Bob was wearing a SeidenGang watch here.
Ah this year was a repeat of 03. so glorious.
Not really. I went to the 2003 big 12 championship. OU got their ass kicked. It wasn’t fun.
Kansas St. would get their revenge in 2003.
Loved watching them lay the wood down on that alleged greatest team of all time. Then watching them get manhandled again by LSU.
In the middle of that our 7 .

I would have loved to see Miami vs OU for the title! Should have been the title game that year considering Miami beat FSU head to head.
Miami would have kicked the crap out of "Big Game Bob" and the Sooners. He knows it, too.
Big east conference to ours which had the number 1 and 2 teams of that year yeah right Miami play your soft teams while we play man football here.

OU beat K-State & won the nat'l title in 2000. OU LOST to K-State in 2003. How did the Sooners remain #1 to play LSU instead of USC?
That's a good ass question
Max Jefferson I think the oklahoma would've switched places with usc and gone to the rose bowl to play michigan
That year, OU had so many blowout wins against some ranked Big 12 teams so quality wins played a role still being ranked as no.1
