It's very rare to see european people reviewing Gemilai machine, as Gemilai is popular in Malaysia,Indonesia,Thailand,Philippines,😊 Gemilai is good for barista/brewers who wants to startup their business. Great Video !
Thank you for the kind words. This is very true. Just a friendly correction although I am English by descent. I live in New Zealand. We have a distributor of Gemilai machines over here in NZ called Coffee Tech.
I got my CRM3005G last month, it's also dripping from the steamwand, but seems like when I'm trying to tighten it up (even it doesn't move anymore) stops dripping. I don't know, maybe it will get worse with time and this approach will not work anymore, but now it helps. I also checked water temperature from the group even when buttons are flashing (after steaming or when the boiler overshooting), it barely reaches 85C in normal mode and 90-92C when lights are flashing. Even the thermoblock itself (I was measuring close to the thermoprobe and in other possible points on top of the thermoblock) was heating to about 90C or a bit higher when in the steaming mode. Seems like this machine requires PID controller. And by default it has mechanical relay, not SSR so it clicking all the time when the machine turning the thermoblock on and off. Not a big deal, but maybe this was a reason why they gave this machine quite wide range of temperature between ON and OFF states of the thermoblock. So it fluctuates all the time. Will work on it haha
Unfortunately, I cannot as I no longer own this machine. I sold it a few months back. If you head on over to my Instagram profile and go to the reels page (instagram.com/thedrummingbarista/reels/?hl=en) and scroll down you'll be able to find content from when I owned this machine showcasing many coffees being brewed and milk being steamed. But to answer your question. The technique of steaming milk on the Gemilai machine is the same as it would be across all other espresso machines.
Thank you for the kind words. I can't comment on that machine I'm afraid as I've never had the chance to see one let alone use one in the flesh haha. If the specs are similar to this machine then I would say a hesitant yes.
Great video Sean. Couple of comments and questions- Does the group head and portafilter get hotter if you leave it on for longer? Because it’s a small boiler it might need a bit longer to heat up that substantial amount of metal so I’d be interested to know if it’s hotter after 30 minutes. Also would running hot water through the group and handle from the machine itself be a viable alternative to using your kettle to heat them? The dripping steam wand will be repairable, but you’ll need a machine tech or someone with experience to do it. It’s unlikely to be caused by spring tension if there’s a spring on the knob, it will be something else. It’s probably a needle valve and it’s not forming a proper seal. Either because there’s an o-ring in there that needs to be replaced or because it’s a metal facing seal and there’s a bit of scale in there stopping it from fully closing.
No worries Leroy. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it does get hotter the longer you leave it for. But from testing (putting my hand on it) it doesn’t get super hot. Running water through the group head and portafilter certainly helps but doesn’t get super hot. That’s why I’ve chosen to go with hot water from the kettle. 😎 I would take it to a tech, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the price that it’ll cost me to get someone to look at it for me. 🔥
Great review! This video helped me decide to get this espresso machine. Do you have any recommendations for these two coffee grinders: the Gemilai CRM9012 or the CRM9015A? My current coffee grinder is unsatisfactory.
Hey, Thank you so much for commenting and letting me know that my review helped you on your journey. That is huge news for me and warms my heart to know that you'll have an awesome coffee experience. Unfortunately, I cannot help when it comes to those two grinders you mentioned, as I have never used them. The grinder that I own is the Eureka Perfetto, and it is the best investment I've ever made for my home coffee bar. It grinds for both espresso and filter coffee, and for the price point, it is an incredible all-rounder. So if you have the budget and if they are available in your country, I strongly encourage you to look into the Eureka grinders. You'll have a great time. Cheers, Sean The Drumming Barista
Hi TDM, hope you are not too busy, may i ask does your steaming wand have a consistent spur of steam? Im having a hard time steaming milk because the CRM3005g is having a hard time letting out steam consistently
Hi there, This is a great question. Just to make it clear, I no longer own this machine. However, during the time that I did own it, I never struggled with the steam wand pressure or consistency. It might sound a little silly to ask, but are you turning the handle on the side of the machine all the way open? I would also recommend pressing the button to turn on the steam wand and letting the pressure build up for at least a minute or so before steaming your milk. I hope this helps. As you can imagine, it's hard to know what's happening with your machine without being there and seeing it in action. If the problem continues, it could be an issue with the pump that helps build up the pressure for the steam wand. Cheers, The Drumming Barista
Hi there great question. I would say no. This particular machine is very much focused on Domestic Use and I personally wouldn't recommend it for anything other than domestic use.
I got the CRM 3005E the silver version of this machine and the build quality is pretty solid it doesn't wiggle in some way. Probably its just your machine or they upgraded the materials for the new batch
Awesome to hear and know. I would say that they’ve upgraded the materials and build quality for that particular machine. I’m intrigued to try out some of their other machines.
Hi there. No the steam wand does not drip continuously anymore. I’ve had the machine cleaned and I cleaned out the inside of the steam wand myself and that has stopped the dripping. So with good and structured maintenance the machine will last you well. Great to hear you are thinking about purchasing the machine. If you are based here in NZ, be sure to use the discount code in the description at the checkout stage with Coffee Tech for a 10% discount. 🔥 Any other questions you know where to find me.
