      Yeah I love her also! It feels much better being part of the community thanks to her!
      It's good to see it's not the "only old white guys allowed" hobby anymore. No offense to old white guys, you've drawn the path, and we respect your wisdom, but new generations have to keep it alive!

    I loved seeing Jenea (sorry for the misspelling) again. She brings so much energy to the pencast and I would love to see her in more videos. I also loved the idea of Put A Finger Down (I just want it to be longer somehow). I only had to put two fingers down. One for Diamine and one for throwing boxes.

    I really appreciate hearing Brian express how he wishes he had certain pens so he could gift and share them. This is such a fun part of collecting. I’ve never once regretted gifting a pen from my collection to someone who’ll love and use it.

    Biggest regret was buying too many (gasp) lower level pens, instead of saving for fewer grail pens. Selling most of the collection now, at a loss, to make room and raise cash.

  • @marionevarez1540
    @marionevarez1540 Місяць тому +6

    Regarding the cartridge stoppers, for people who refill their own, you make your own and just cap them , and you can have them ready or take with you when traveling. These should be part of a kit setting syringes, empty cartridges and stoppers.... think about it.

  • @a22lotti
    @a22lotti Місяць тому +2

    I'm not a heavy cartridge user, but I would consider cartridge stoppers quite useful for refilling cartridges. That way you'd be able to fill them ahead of time with whatever ink you want and seal them up - I'm thinking an extended trip of some kind. Useful if your favorite ink doesn't come in cartridges or only in proprietary ones.

    In 1954, a Buick was a Buick. It didn't look like a Chevy which looks like a Pontiac which you can't tell part from an Olds, like today. That line is from a movie called My Favourite Year, released in '83. Brian and Drew, despite the fact that fountain pens were once way more popular than they are today, I'll put forward that this a golden age of pens. A Montegrappa is a Montegrappa. It doesn't look like a Kaweco which looks like a Sailor, which you can't tell apart from a Benu. I love the feedback of a gold nib Platinum, but I'm telling my wife, who is new to the hobby and likes a smooth feel, to check out Pilot at the DC Fountain Pen Supershow. We'll be there Sunday, and look forward to watching the Pencast! Long live a diverse and vibrant pen community, and thanks for all you guys do!

Ask ME how I know!! About the potato ink. Probably won't bite, but if they make an ink called Giant French Fries, I'm in!! It could be the color of perfectly cooked, golden brown french fries! Brian! I think I've got the perfect system for you. I might have learned it on the pencast? I use a Rhodia #13 spiral bound pocket sized notebook that I carry with me everywhere anyway. I keep a page where every time I load a pen I immediately use it to write down what is in the pen, including the date! I have no idea where I learned this! (Drew, this is the part where you pull out your notebook and grin the grin of vindication!) 😊

    Hey you wonderful folks! I love sheening inks for every day use and find the dry times on your ink info so very helpful! Some new inks aren't getting dry times tho - any chance you could make that a consistent data point in your ink info? Also, seems like there's a lot more variety in sheening inks these days - we've more choices than blue with red sheen that was pretty ubiquitous - so... any chance of a show covering new sheen / color combox from the last 2-3 years? Lastly, I've a lingering wish for limited edition (fun colors) Pilot Decimos - with stub nib. Will the US see any of these in the next year or so? Keep up the great work, y'all (and more Janéa - the different energy she brings is a great addition to the show! AND still have five fingers up, gal!!!)

    The Rhodia Mouse pad is one of my favorite products! It’s a great pad for having on my desk to scribble with pens and also for filling my pens on, to catch any spills.
    I bought mine for 99 cents at an in person store and I wish I could find it for that cheap online.
    It doesn’t have a cover it just lays flat in a desk and the backboard has a slightly rubbery feel so it doesn’t slide too much which adds to the mouse pad function. But I just consider it a very affordable and nice sized desk pad.

I’m with Drew on Nayaka pen regrets. And coming back to the previous episode: DREW! How can you use an Endless notebook and not remember you do. Here's a fountain pen adjacent weirdie that's getting harder to find: the Speedball Auto-Fed Pen Holder. Basically turns a Speedball dip nib into a lever filled fountain pen. They're long, chunky and really not that well made, but they work to avoid constantly dipping, plus people WILL ask: "What in the h€ll is even THAT?"😂
    Of course they're a product of the 1970s. Surprisingly, many are still working on the original ink sac.
    Could you please cover the looseleaf and note pad writing paper you carry, as well as envelopes and greeting cards? It's always notebooks and journals that are always covered by everyone, and those who aren't into journaling or want to write letters get left out.

    If you need something to hold sample vials when you're filling your pens, and you don't have a 3D printer, check your pen boxes! (Yeah, I didn't put that finger down.) The box my Sailor Compass 1911 came in is perfect. The slot that used to hold the pen is just the right size to hold a vial snugly at any angle I need, and I use the wider slot (I think it held the converter?) for resting smaller, lighter ink bottles like Diamines (that finger went down) in case I knock them over.

    I totally agree with the feedback that the Pencast reduces stress. It is truly the highlight of my week. The pandemic never ended for my partner and I. We rarely go anywhere that isn't a medical appointment or an errand. We mask indoors everywhere except for our home, and I almost never socialize in person anymore. It is just so indescribably lovely to be able to take a break from all of health things and just watch a show about pen stuff, nerdiness, nonsense, and people living normal lives every week. Truly, it sounds silly, but it's wonderful, and much appreciated -- I suspect by a lot of people.
    Lol, I've often wished y'all would carry the Colorverse 50 States inks. I especially love Cape May, Green Goddess, Blue Crab, Chesapeake Bay, and Liberty Bell. Admittedly, Giant Potato wasn't one I had in mind. It is pretty funny, though, and I like a good brown ink.
    I love when Janea is on the pencast! I wound up with one and a half fingers down -- I suspect she got almost everyone with that Diamine ink one, including me. I used to keep all my pen boxes. Now I only keep the hard plastic TWSBI cases to ship used pens that I sell in and the metal Kaweco tins for storing small items. And if I ever buy a pen in a wooden box, I'll probably keep that, too. But since most of my pens are TWSBIS...I still keep most of my boxes., at least temporarily.
    Oh, Brian, my Dad does model trains, too, and I highly recommend getting into them with your kids if you can. That would be a really cool three generation thing you could have going with you, Rachel's dad, and your kids. I have really happy memories of the sound of the trains on the tracks. But it teaches so many other skills, too. Building kits for the trains themselves (though I believe most are already assembled these days, not like when my dad or even I were kids) and the model buildings. But also carpentry for the layouts, painting of trains, people, and buildings. Plus a lot of overall creativity in the layout design and landscapes. There's also a lot of mechanical knowledge that goes into it -- carpentry, wiring, and laying track. My dad has an outdoor layout as well, so I helped him build it as a kid and learned about things like drainage and safe outdoor wiring. Plus, you can use it as an educational history thing, learning about the histories of different railroad lines, towns, local economies, the history of different types of technological advancements, etc. Your kids might be past an age where they're willing or able to get into it, but if they can, it can be a really nice family activity and build a lot of lifetime memories. I don't actually have any active layouts myself, and I haven't for years, and I think my dad only has a couple, but we still go to a local model train show together every year.

    Nice show!
    Q&A: how can I clean my Rickshaw Sinclair without damaging it?
    I have the peacock one, it doesn't have any relevant stains or ink disasters... but my cat loves to sit on it and I'd like to "give it a wash", and I'm afraid to ruin it if I put it in the washing machine.
    I liked the "one finger down", I think it could fit "short" style in youtube and instagram. I was surprised you didn't know about it. 😂
    Another random section could be to react to fountainpen memes on the internet.
    Knowing about your lifes is inspiring. I absolutely have too many hobbies, but listening to you helps me not feeling overwhelmed and enjoy them even better!
