there should be a few gold nothing and relic nothing videos for you if you search through the uploads, basically all the "nothings" have been done as far as I can remember, I think maybe ring nothing is gold stone and berries but no wood? that's probably what you want
T-West recently did a really in-depth explanation of the Arabia map generation, and it's really complicated and tries to make things balanced by doing fancy terrain tricks to generate resources for each player. Since these operations use basically MSPaint's "paint bucket" to fill in player areas and resources, you can imagine that it breaks when areas overlap that it thinks should be different. I guess you got unlucky and the areas overlapped, which caused the script to not give you any trees. So, thanks DE.

His review was really good though T90 should watch it for sure. It's weird because the previous generations were not even that bad for wood, and could have been tweaked. They have 100% over-engineered it so it breaks it's generation in quite a few smaller map situations. More complicated for little balance gain - remove the randomness from random maps but add the bugs since it defaults to "nothing" in certain areas, and those areas are now much larger. Really disappointed since it's going to affect some pro games.

The same thing happened to me. I had no trees for miles (in fact I was also in the left corner) and yes that's what I did, I said in all chat "I'm resigning but look at the map". The enemy agreed it was pretty dumb. But in retrospect I could have tried to play.

I had exactly the same situation with the HD version about a couple of months ago. Once I saw that my closest woodline was some 50 tiles away I proposed restarting the match but my rival refused. Just for the record.... I won with an archer rush.
I love the adaptive nature of Age of Empires over the same-thing-every-time of starcraft2 you can almost play arabia forever but you need new updated maps in sc2
The only thing T90's side of the map lacked was an anticlimactic tumbleweed just rolling around to the sounds of empty desert wind. :D Super great game btw. Way to go thinking on the fly.
Shows nicely how stress affects experienced players the same way as newbies -messy games, out of control situations, panic decisions.. The only difference is that newbies get those situations happening all the time because they have no experience to handle them, and experienced players have so they don't panic as often. But they do too when enough unexpected happens! ;)

Not sure why the Forgotten Empires team went with messing about with tried-and-true Arabia instead of just making a standalone variant or expy if they wanted something more open.
Yeah, no joke, my 1st game back after a few month break was a map like this. a little worse actually, I had zero wood behind my base. you could have drawn a line down the middle of the map, me on one side, him on the other, and there were zero woodlines on my side
To be critical of Shades here (and he is a much better player than I am). I think he confused using villagers for tower defense and castle defense. I could see using villagers in a castle if you have 130 or so. But with less than 40 it was terribly unproductive. He used about 20-25 villagers to attack T90s castle over 4 minutes. At 20 resources/villager/minute that is 1600 resources to save a 650 resource castle. Towers have stone defense making them vulnerable to secondary arrows, castles do not. He would have been far better off, making knights to fight off the ones raiding and then attacking T90s castle. Petards are good for walls not castles, the same resources in knights would have done far more damage over that time.
Im having difficulties in the Joan of Ark Chapter 6 campaign, anyone got any tips? i always get rushed upon by trebuchets and rams when i dont even have 1 treb anymore due to longbowmen having ridiculous range
