Netting WILD AXOLOTLS For My AQUARIUM!

- In todays video, I go netting in a tiny creek that runs through the Florida everglades in search for axolotls to put in my aquarium! We ended up catching tons of exotic aquarium fish, orange crawfish, and 2 baby axolotls which we brought back to keep as my new pets!

This is hands down the easiest way to tell the difference between all axolotl and mudpuppies/water dogs is by counting their toes. Axolotls have cylindrical bodies, short legs, a relatively long tail and feathery external gills. They have four toes on the front feet, five toes on the back feet and moveable eyelids. Mudpuppy have flat heads, wide tails, stubby legs, and feet with four distinct toes. Hope this helps. Slay Queen!!!🤣
Plus axolotls are only found on lake xochimilco in mexico exclusively

Axolotls do not have ilids. I fact I have one for 1 year not once have I seen ilids
@@cqstlupin6074 actually i remember seeing some people try to expand axolotl populations by releasing some that are close to the wild ones into another lake.

These are actually larval tiger salamanders which are close relatives to Axolotls. But tiger salamanders morph into terrestrial salamanders. Muddpupies are not really related to Axolotls and they also are a bit larger and have flatter heads that they use squeeze into crevices

Bobby, if you go on the net there is a explanation that tells you the difference between an axolotl and a mud puppy. What we have here in the United States commonly referred to mud puppies.
There are no mud puppies in Florida. Those are tiger salamnder's larvae.
@@sic22lthere are mud puppies in Florida but those are tiger salamander larvae. The Apalachicola waterdog and the escambia waterdog are the only two waterdogs or mudpuppies native to Florida

These are likely to be salamanders, not axolotls, please setup some land segments so the adults can climb onto something after morphing
Technically axolotls are salamanders that just don’t have a metamorphosis like other salamanders

Just a tip when adding substrate whether its sand or rocks, to avoid mudding up the water rinse or wash it. Rocks i use a strainer and sand i use a bucket. Dump your sand in a bucket fill it with water and stir it and tip the water out, repeat a few times till the water is clean then put it in your tank. Instant gratification, clear water and no need to siphon out the water to refill it and its still murky.😊

instead of throwing the Mayans back you should keep them and feed to the predator pond. They are invasive so use them as feeder fish instead of releasing them
Same with the tilapia. He buys them instead of catching them in the wild
Probably this is not ambystoma mexicanum ( axolotl) most probably they find ambystoma mavortium ( tiger salamander) so these are not invasive actually they are one of some indigenous species
I've Said The Exact Same Many Times About The Mayans,, Tilapia,, Etc..Then He Goes Out & Buys Tilapia Filets To Feed Them With..It Will Never Make Sense To Me..Also Have Suggested Making A Small "Feeder" Pond That They Can Keep/Throw All The Mayans,, Tilapia Etc. Into & Keep It Fully Stocked,, That Way When It's Time To Feed The Predator Pond,, He Can Just Walk Over & Net Some.
