    WARNING: DO NOT use the pictures I used in the motion blur (Alien) test on any of my currently uploaded monitor reviews, those examples were presented incorrectly. Please use references from a reputable review source such as RTINGS.com. I have educated myself on the proper way of testing monitors and will use the proper test method in all upcoming reviews. I apologize for any issues this may have caused. As a one man team, it's hard to peer review. You guys are my peer review. Thank you to those who pointed out and helped educate me on my mistakes. HDR 400 is a certification that implies / specifies that the monitor can interpret an HDR signal and you can expect the monitor to display a peak brightness of 400 nits. HDR content such as HDR movies and television are mastered at 1000 nits and require a display capable of reaching at least near that 1000 nits to properly display the content as it was mastered. the HDR 400 display will have a higher peak brightness than and SDR display so it is able to achieve a more HDR effect than an SDR display and does remap the HDR data to its lower peak brightness. It cant be considered full HDR however due to the fact that it cant display the content as mastered.

    elmb is actually insanely impressive on my asus 280hz. It does make everything a tad darker, but on certain games is makes a huge difference. On games like Siege, I prefer having elmb turned off, however on Warzone, and some other titles, I just amp the brightness up with elmb on. It makes a huge difference. Also. if your PC can put out 240+ fps in most games, the 280hz overclock makes things very buttery. The only issue I have with the monitor at all, is the preset buttons on the side. I wish you could just save all settings on the monitor as a preset with those buttons, and then this monitor would be in a whole other tier. But a big thing to mention, my friend has a zowie and we compared our monitors, and now he is waiting every day to find the asus 279 ips because he likes it a lot more. The only reason to get the zowie is if you are a pro player in a game and want that 0.2% advantage it gives with its lighting, as well as being able to switch presets the best and quickest. But for overall experience from watching videos, video editing, workflow, and anything non-gaming related, I'd go so far the Asus is much better than the zowie. Also many pros play on 27'' IPS monitors. Aceez on Rogue in Rainbow six pro scene is considered a top 5 player in the world currently, and he plays on 27" IPS for example. It is all personal preference. Guys like Shaiiko play on 24" and have their face 2-3 imches away from the monitor for gaming. But most people play a foot or so away, and at that length the difference between 24.5" and 27" monitors is miniscule.

  • @sebash6
    @sebash6 4 роки тому +10

    Nice review, but you compared the builded game settings inside OSD, I believe everyone know that you need calibrate the monitor, for example I got the Asus, the VG259QM, because I like more 24,5 inch for 1080p than version of 27 inch. I actually bought the Zowie BenQ = XL2540 and If I compared it with the asus I instantly throw it away due to grey colors I saw, no black = just grey, the Motion blur is only a little bit better on Zowie compare to asus, with ELMB its even better imo. Colors are 2-3x better vs TN, so you can actually see difference, UNLESS you are used to the TN colors. I mean, yes the Asus IPS panel doesnt have the best IPS colors compare to other panels, but still its so good compare to TN panels. Just sit on IPS panels for one week and then back to the TN, you will want your ips back, esspecially it is similar fast to the TN, fastIPS panels are upgrade for any TN Panel, and they are even faster than some TN, due to input lag and response time (the asus is the fastest ips panel in response time of any ips panels before) - 3.6 ms vs 3.3 ms (zowie)
    For gaming I use my customized settings by myself (Because ofc fps mode its just the random selection for not every game) I do play Cod MW tho but this settings I come from is best for almost every game.
    1) FPS Mode, Shadow boost = 3, maybe 2 (depends of the map) but I get used to 3, Brightness = 70 (because IPS is brightness enough anyway even with the Shadow boost), Contrast 70, Vivid Pixel = 75 (if there is a lot of grass), if dont = 100, Saturation = 50 (The asus Panel is already a lot of saturated compare to my previous TN panel), Color Temp -> User Mode = 98 Red, Green = 99, Blue = 97, Overdrive 60 = best balance, unless you play above 200 fps = 80.
    ELMB depends of the fps, but actually its the better feature than before, because the screen its more brightness than in any previous feature like that, its big + for that, and actually with 200+ fps and elmb this is better than any TN panel due to best colors
    For my desktop (takes me 5 sec to change it)
    1) Racing Mode, Shadow boost = 0, Brightness 50 (sometimes I lower it depends of the day), Contrast = 73, Vivid pixel ofc = 0 m(its only good for gamings, its like Super resolution feature in my LG 144hz TN), Color Temp I use from tfr central (www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_tuf_gaming_vg279qm.htm#calibration) but i like blue on my desktop so i Keep it higher, Red = 98. Green = 99, Blue = 98.
    In my opinion fast IPS 240hz Panels are worth to go, it can be universal monitor for gaming and for watching movies. But you need to know if you can get a lot of fps tho.
    That is why I consider to wait for the MSI MAG251RX, which is very similar to Asus, even better with the colors + fastest a little bit, esspecialy if we have fps bellow 180, but Asus is better with 200+ fps and due to ELMB. One guy just told me that I will don't see difference actually in response time, its actually like 0.5ms.

    • @feeblemind
      @feeblemind 4 роки тому

      yeah i was saying the same thing like... dude you didn't calibrate the monitor of course the default settings are gonna be ass. And of course the Zowie is gonna have better presets it's why you pay the premium because it's made for lazy people they already calibrate their presets while most other brands don't. However I disagree with you that IPS panels are upgrades. The new .5ms TN panels reproduce 99%-100% sRGB putting them on part color wise with the current gen 240hz IPS panels. It'll probably taken another generation of IPS panels to finally start beating the TNs. Also it's unfortunate but lot of monitor reviews don't actually review the monitor with actual testing and the few that do like to stick to certain brands and avoid others so if he actually did some more in depth testing with bleed you would see the IPS panels all have inverse ghosting at 240hz no matter what over drive you use. Even the best 240hz IPS still has an average error rate of like 10%. So it's not perfect especially since most of the ghosting occurs around the center of the screen instead of edges and it is super noticeable in game. Also kinda un fair to compare 24 inch 1080 and 27 1080 because the lack of pixels makes a big difference and honestly you're just dumb if you get a 27 inch 1080p monitor idk why they even bother making them it looks like ass.

    • @sebash6
      @sebash6 4 роки тому

      @@feeblemind thank you for you reply, im not expert of course, the opinion was subjective. I have tested VG259QM and then I bought VG279QM. But... the "problem" is that I always had 144hz TN before, for even 4 years, the fun fact is that this TN had 8,3ms input lag (yea!) and response time around 5ms, but i didn't care about it, i didn't even know how many ms it does have.. Anyway after these 2x IPS i have tested, obv the motion blur is worse compare to TN, even the MAG251rx with his insane response time 3,1ms g2g has worse motion clarity, sharp of the ufo's at the ufotest site. I bought 2 days ago Acer Nitro XF252QX and I fall in love in that how motion blur looks like compare to 240Hz Asus (IPS). and now the question is that...
      The only advantage of the asus is 0.3ms input lag (Estimated Signal Processing Lag), vs Acer Lag 2.0 ms, one guy told me that he moved from this acer to asus vg259qm, and he is playing better in cs go, due to less input lag, but can the human see difference in 1,7ms? Whats your opinion about this Acer? also it has VBR (BFI) with flicker free and the motion clarity, is even better, like 2,5x better, even tho it adds input lag, its still at 4,6ms, does it big deal for competive gamers? I play Cod MW Multiplayer. I really like motion clarity more on Acer nitro than on the vg279qm or vg259qm, but the qustion is... does it motion blur which obv i see in ufo test, is visible in games?

      thanks for the comment. I’ll be receiving the Alienware 240Hz IPS Monitor today to test and review and I also purchase a SpyderX Elite & i1 DisplayPro. I’ll be returning whichever colorimeter isn’t as good and keep the other for reviews. I agree it should be calibrated for the best results for this video and I didn’t recognize how critical that was at the time. However to be fair, almost no one who’s buying these monitors will have a colorimeter or will get theirs professionally calibrated so I think it’s a point to take away as well. But now I’ll be comparing my own calibration by eyes (which most people will do) as well as a professional calibration with the colorimeter I purchased so most people can make the best decision in the future. I have an XL2540, an XL2740, and just got the Asus 280hz monitor, and I’ve gotta say, the Asus is amazing compared to my Zowies. I actually just RMA’d it because of a dead pixel (unlucky). But after playing on it in FPS mode for a few days, and then coming back and playing on the xl2540, the difference is insane. The xl2540, even with the color vibrance all the way up, appears soooo bland compared to the IPS. Regardless of what color accuracy tests pull, these IPS panels are still going to appear better than the TN panels. The majority of people looking at these high refresh rate IPS panels aren’t going to be so critical of the small details here and there. It’s mainly about just getting a high refresh rate monitor that looks good.

    HDR10 doesn't actually mean much of anything, just like HDR10+, etc. They're just formats in which HDR info is contained. What *does* mean something are the VESA HDR display specifications, namely VESA HDR 400, 600 & 1000. The bottom of the barrel HDR 400 is pretty much SDR that can interpret HDR info, usually denoted as HDR10 on these not very HDR capable monitors, seemingly to confuse people into thinking it must be good or something because of the "10" (I honestly don't know why they do it), IIRC all of these are HDR 400 (edgelit, no FALD), they also don't do more then 400 nits peak brightness so any highlights or dark detail is practically lost.
    From VESA HDR 600 onwards you actually get to perceive HDR content in a meaningful way.

    As a someone who's not very tech savvy, I'd like to know whether if the difference of response time by 1-5 ms is noticeable?
    Furthermore, I understand that the Zowie is still king but is the difference between the Zowie and something else that noticeable?
    My preferred monitor would be a 240hz monitor with focus on content consumption with competitive capabilities as I do like playing competitive FPS games but at the same time I also enjoy visually stunning RPG games (Witcher 3 and so on) and like to watch movies. Really love the amount of detail put into the video and your responsiveness to the community, keep up the great work!

    I’ve had two BenQ Zowie monitors. The latest was the XL2546. I really loved the XL2546. Yeah it’s a TN panel but the colors are GOOD for an TN panel. I also love that it’s 24/25”. I’d love it more if it was like 22”. Now I have the LG 27GL850. It’s a 144hz 1440p monitor, it’s very nice and the colors are beautiful but I do miss the 240hz on 25”. I guess I just need 2 monitors.

    Coming from a sweaty Apex and Val player. The 24 inch version of the Asus is gaming heaven. I bought the Benq and the Asus at the same time. Asus has better colors by far, viewing angle, no difference in input lag, g-sync (yeah it's actually good despite what you think because some pro who plays on black bars said otherwise), and the ELMB is amazing. I don't know how bright people need their monitors to be.. But I can see people in dark corners in apex with it on, so idk what the complaint there is. 10000% suggest the Asus over the Benq.

    1. TN panel like BenQ Zowie XL2540 for GAMING is best.

    • @Aliothale
      @Aliothale 4 роки тому +1

      @@renzoarana3018 Out of the box you will need to adjust the gamma down to the lowest amount (5) in the OSD, and then make additional tweaks in your Nvidia control panel to turn the gamma down slightly farther. Every panel is different, so I can't give you an exact amount, but in the NVCP I would recommend aiming for 89-94 gamma, a slight vibrance boost to brighten up yellows.. 53 is the highest I'd go, and 45-47% contrast to even out some darker areas. I do not use color profiles, just a default sRGB which works fine. I did adjust the panel color slightly, 98/100/100. The vibrance boost makes other colors look better but tends to overkill the reds a bit so I turn the red down slightly so skin colors don't look too reddish. Overall the picture quality is great, your eyes will adjust.. when compared to an IPS it does look a bit duller in color.. but for competitive gaming and casual media Zowie makes the best TN panels out there. I do photography and graphics design, so I do care very much about picture quality, and this is as honest as it gets. I would not use it for editing, but I do enjoy it for casual UA-cam and TV show watching.
